Best Sushi in Vegas?
 

Can anyone give me a recommendation for a good sushi place in Vegas? I'm going to be there Dec. 13th-17th. Preferably not more than $50/person (unless it's REALLY good)...I will have a car, so off the strip is fine.

Just outside of Vegas, it's called "Lola's Love Shack".

My personal favorite is Sumo (Sunset/Green Valley pkwy). I've heard others rave about Sushi on Trop (Trop/Eastern I think).

Sushi on Tropicana is at the corner of Tropicana and Topaz. all you can eat for about 25 bucks. The whole menu is in play, and all sushi is rolled to order (and the rice is small). Really good stuff.

Also, Sushi Factory on West Tropicana has a similar deal. The two owners are friends from LA, who both came out to vegas to start their own restaurants. They have a deal with each other where they can open up as many restaurants as they want as long as they stay on their own side of town (west side/east side with the strip as the divider).
both are really good deals.

Hamada on East Flamingo about three blocks (not the Hamada fast food outlets in various casinos) is pretty good, but would bump against your price ceiling. However, the quality has always been very good and the location and extended hours are a plus.

Sumo in Green Valley(Henderson) is a long way from the Strip, and not really great. (I like it okay and live in Green Valley, but cannot in good conscience recommend you drive out for it.)

I have heard good things about places on Trop, East or West, discussed above. Try one of them probably.

Todai at the Alladin. I haven't tried any other places in Vegas so I have no basis for comparison. It's a great value since it is a buffet for about $30/person. They have tons of stuff and it was all good.

if you like todai (to die) try Makino. Not sure where it is, but I can get there (it's in the phone book). Not a true sushi place, but a asian buffet that includes sushi (todai style). I think Makino is better quality food than todai.

Are they owned by a different company than all of the other Todai restaurants, or do they just have a different supplier of the fish?

I haven't eaten at this one in particular, but the rest are horrible.

It's tough to screw up something that's raw, but Todai usually manages to do it anyhow.

I'd have to agree with Duke here. Better find out if the Todai mentioned is very different than the rest of them. I've eaten at three Todai's (each recommended by those who aren't that into sushi, or haven't had 'good' sushi), and they were all horrible. But, if this Todai is different, then give it a shot.

Not familiar with the place but Sushi can't be served as
a buffet, it has to be just made to be any good.

If you do well at the tables try the mirage. It was truly excellent when i had it. Costs a bit more tho, i think we spent about 90 per person. I dont drink so there was none of that, but, if i remember right, miso soup and a sea weed salad. Try the sweet shrimp (amaebi) if it is in season.

I don't usually eat sushi in Las Vegas because sushi in Vancouver is twice as good for half the price. However, it does come up so often on twoplustwo that I may try the Sushi Factory place. Here are the previous threads I found:

I have to say I'm skeptical of "all you can eat sushi". I don't see how they could turn a profit without skimping on freshness/quality. Especially since Las Vegas has no local source of fish. (Unless Lake Mead counts?)

which is what makes these two places special. it's not pre-made, and the freshness satisfies my friends and me (we're all from hawaii, and used to same day caught freshness in fish.)

due to the constant shilling of one of the posters on this site, my wife and I tried this place on saturday night. around 8:00 there was plenty of seating available.

the sushi was very good. we weren't that hungry, so we didn't go for the all-you-can-eat for $24/person. our bill came to $35. we especially liked the cajun albacore, and the spicy tuna roll (cut) was the best we have ever had. we live in la, and have had really good sushi before, but it usually costs much more. now that I think about it, even bad sushi out here costs more than we paid at sushi factory.

I like Sushi on Trop and Sushi on Rainbow. In fact, I once walked from (essentially) the Barbaric Coast to Sushi on Trop, just to rationaliz^W justify the quantity of sushi I wanted to eat.

Yes I did with some friends. That's the place at Hard Rock, right?

The sushi isn't normal, as it's more of a fancy prepared seafoood place. It's very pricey, the portions are very tiny, and you'll need to go eat afterward.

Some of the dishes were indeed delicious, but not filling in the least. We spent a little over $100 per person when we went, and were all hungry.

i've eaten there several times. it's fantastic. it's also very expensive. they have a diverse and eclectic "dinner" menu, but also a sushi menu and sushi bar. i always figured that if i was going to eat raw fish in the middle of the desert, it was going to be at the place i trusted the most.

if you have $50 per person to blow on dinner, you probably can get by at nobu. don't be suprised if you get to $100 per person real quick though.
