Bellagio 80/160 4 bet flop then check turn?

I haven't been playing long..it's a 6 handed or so game at about 8pm weekenight. I haven't played many hands and haven't down so far. I open 99 on the button and just the bb calls. He seems pretty solid, thinking player. Flop is 884r and he CRs I 3 bet and he 4 bets...I just call...planned to call down here? turn is T and he checks...I think and ck behind very confussed not wanting to get CRed and wanting to just show it down for 1 bet on the river...river is 4 he bets and I call...
Thanks,
Donny

It's a confusing situation. I never know what to make of this sort of thing. It is possible he has something like 66 or 77 and the ten has slowed him down, but it's really hard to make a solid read in that spot.

I like big pots, bet the turn call the checkraise and call the river

your in a steal spot he knows this and is willing to overplay any pair or A high in many spots...

if the turn was an ace and he checked I would be more inclined to check behind, because he puts you on an ace, how can he put you on a ten ????

I dont think an 8 will 4-bet the flop, but would instead wait for the turn to check-raise once his little "I have a piece of the flop and its enough to check-raise but not 4-bets" move "fails".

Your opponent's play screams two high cards to me, and he figures he is in the lead after your blind steal attempt. I would play it like Nomar suggests in this spot.

He had 55 and MHIG. I agree that a turn bet is best here.

Did you happen to catch his name? Or perhaps a description?

I believe he was Middle Eastern, maybe late 20's clean cut and in good shape. Seemed to be one the better players I played with.

Bet the turn (call a raise), check the 4 on the river.

the problem with betting the turn (i am not saying not to do it) is what to do on the river. If he check calls the turn, do you bet the river if checked to again. If you won't, then you should check behind on the turn since he will almost always bet the river and you will win the same number of bets.

Re: Bellagio 80/160 4 bet flop then check turn?

Just a thought:

If he 4-bets the flop but checks the turn, there is a good chance he has a marginal hand. If he was sure he had you beat he would bet here for value, hoping you would raise.

By checking yourself, you pretty much guaranteed you would get bet into on the River. So you paid 1 BB to get to showdown.

BUT, if you had bet the Turn (since he showed weakness by checking) there is a chance he would have mucked it (he may not want to pay 2 BBs to get to showdown if he thinks you are going to bet the River as well.) If he calls, he’ll check the River and you can see the showdown at the same price (1 BB). By betting the Turn, you get to showdown for the same price but get the added chance of winning outright if he folds.

He might check-raise an overpair or two big cards like AQ but when he 4-bets he must have an overpair or an eight? The fact he doesnt bet the Ten is strange ... perhaps he loves it (TT) or hates it (99)?

I like your turn check as I think you're probably behind but of course worth a call on river.
