Hey you - learn from my mistakes

This is a two part post, with the followup coming after a little analysis of thist part. This situation may be automatic for some of you, but I have problems playing AA/KK on scary boards.

BB is 30/4/1
No read on MP2

Party Poker 2/4 Hold'em (8 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is CO with A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].

BB checks, UTG checks, MP2 bets, Hero raises, BB calls, UTG folds, MP2 calls.

Raise?

re-raises! His preflop raising indicates AA/KK/QQ/JJ/AKs/AKo/(TT?), most of which you beat here. The only ones you're behind on are 1/4 of the AKs and the TT. I would bet this until it hurts.

That turn card licks balls.

But yeh, raise, I doubt it helped MP2. I'm folding if BB wakes up.

:grunch:

The only hand I'm really worried about here is AK of spades. But, I think a smaller overpair or a single A/K of spades is more likely than the AK of spades. So, I raise the turn and call down a non-spade river if he 3-bets.

EDIT: just noticed it's not HU. If BB wakes up and check/3-bets the turn, I suddenly get a lot more nervous, as he could certainly have been on a flush draw this entire time.

Raise - if mp2 bites back or BB wakes up you might want to run.

Raise. There's many more combinations of A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]A, K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]K, and Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]Q than there is A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img].

I raise it here. If BB wakes up and 3-bet or if MP2 3-bets, I think this is a fold. Either of them have a better hand if that happens, and there is alot of scary cards that can come on the river.

Raise it again, itīs big enough that you need to protect your hand when you are ahead, which you often is btw.

I figure him for KK or QQ. Raise.

Re: Hey you - learn from my mistakes

so yeah, raising would've been optimal. I paused, feared the flush, and just called. It was 1 back to BB, so he called. River was another T, BB bet out, MP2 folded, I called, he flipped up T7s.

Not only is a turn raise for value enough of the time to be profitable, it'll also protect your hand in this situation. As BB folds some percentage of the time to two bets on the turn, but probably always calls for one.

But you guys apparently already know that.

FWIW - many tens in microlimits aren't folding if you raise, either. He's clearly in calldown mode with top pair and facing aggression.

But raising the turn with your holding is still the right play.

True But they are giving you money by calling a raise so you want them to call.

P.S when i read it I said call...so that shows how much I know

Re: Hey you - learn from my mistakes

The pot's already big. You *never* want them to call here

You want to improve your chances to win this pot and your best chance is to get it headsup against the guy who thought he could beat aces preflop (you're definitely dominating him) rather than the guy who improved on the flop (and has already provided dead money) and hangs around giving you another battery of cards to dodge. Moreover, the other player is going to pay you the same if you raise as the cold-caller if you lie low, so why accept the increased risk? And if he calls the raise, that's more money when he fails to outdraw you on all streets.

I think this is a raise here, I put MP2 on a big pair or big suited broadway. By raising, I'm hoping for more information. We still may have the best hand here. Depending on the action, we may have a better idea if we are ahead or behind by putting in a raise.
