I think this was a $33... This has happened 2x in the last few days... should I fold to shorty's push? Or should I be folding AQ pf Level 3?

Re: $33\'s: Got my @$$ kicked AGAIN last night (5 hands)

Hand #1 I play the same.
Hand #2 Is a tough spot, but I think you do have to call. However don't go up levels to try to win back losses at a lower level. It doesn't work and will cost you massively over the long term.
Hand #3 I don't really like that much. It's marginally ok I think to push, but it's the type I would let go (I mean he has to call top 17% to stop you profiting). People tend to defend their blinds a lot to SB pushes when there's no short stack around. I'd just let it go, quite honestly.
Hand #4 Just push preflop - you're getting too fancy.
Hand #5 I really do not like, just raise to about t150 and take it from there. More if you want, just not all-in.

tigerite 12-20-2005 11:18 AM

Re: $33\'s: Got my @$$ kicked AGAIN last night (5 hands)

Actually Hand #2 is pretty much read dependent as well. He has to be pushing top 1/3rd of hands to call here. So you do have to have some idea what he's playing like. Usually though that's a fair enough range against your usual $55 player

Re: $33\'s: Got my @$$ kicked AGAIN last night (5 hands)

Regarding your comments on hand #2 - I'd go a step further than Tigerite...you should probably be going DOWN levels to win back money that you lost. Although it may take some time, you've got a better chance to win at the lower levels and the reason you lost the money in the first place may have been that you were playing at too high a level for your skill level.

P.S. Take all advice from me with a grain of salt...I'm still playing mostly freerolls.

Easy call, you played it fine. There's no way you can put him on a range where it would make it correct for you to fold.

[ QUOTE ]

[/ QUOTE ]

Let's stop right here for a second. The next time you play a $55, it's not going to be to make money back. Ok? Ok, good, glad we got that sorted out.

Now, onto the hand.

[ QUOTE ]

It was a push fest and very tough to push from SB/Button b/c someone was always pushing... but I guess I should have folded...

[/ QUOTE ]

This just depends on the range you put the button on. I would sometimes call here - if it's been a pushfest, I'd be more inclined to call. This is a SNGPT type hand, and it'd be a useful tool for you if you don't have it already.

[ QUOTE ]
This was a $33... I don't love to push any 2, but did not have my KS charts handy.

[/ QUOTE ]

I really dislike this push. You have 12BBs, there are better options here. Raise t500 is you must raise, but I don't mind open limping (to keep the pot small) or folding, depending on the villain.

[ QUOTE ]

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, reraise KK preflop. If you always do this, you will be fine.

AK facing 6 opponents, and you're OOP. I pop it to t150 and see what happens.]

tigerite,

I am going to stop spending time on posts, because you just post what I was about to, albeit
1) more quickly
2) more concisely
3) with a British accent

I agree 100% with downtown on this one. When your opponent can hurt you badly if you push and there's no shortstack, I've started limping from the SB in spots like this. If I think that my opponent will let me get away with it, I'll do it for these reasons:

1) To keep the pot small with my marginal hand
2) I don't need the pot
3) My opponent can cripple me if I push and lose
4) Importantly, some opponents are more likely to call
your pre-flop push, but will very often fold after you
limp and bet any flop. It looks less like you're
stealing. Of course, sometimes the flop actually hits
you, which of course is nice too.

Against many opponents, I think the best course of action is call (fold to a raise), bet any flop. If raised on the flop, let it go. You're only out maybe 300 chips or so.

No, 3 BB would be 600 chips. Way too much. Against alot of players in this exact circumstance, a mini-bet will get them to fold. It's a tricky spot. The guy has a good stack and could easily fold to keep his FE. BTW, the post that I just made shows a similar circumstance, except I was in the spot of the BB facing a mini-bet from a bigger stack. It's a very uncomfortable situation. I folded middle pair.

Easy call, for sure. But I'd like to know if folding AQs UTG is OK in this spot as opposed to raising.

Played with a Dr__Jekyll last night, I thought it was you, but I guess not. Good thing too, because he severely misplayed a number of hands IMO.

Re: $33\'s: Got my @$$ kicked AGAIN last night (5 hands)

Hand 1 I think is fine, Hand 2 I probally call since it sounds like its been very aggressive. Hand 3 Id just fold but maybe min raise or something depending on the villian. Hand 4 I just push over the top PF. Hand 5 is way too big of a bet. Sometimes I limp behind and sometimes I raise to 3X + 1X for every limper.

It's ok once you get the hang of things, the $33s are donktastic. It's like they're throwing money around.

Re: $33\'s: Got my @$$ kicked AGAIN last night (5 hands)

1, Ugly spot, with your stack & position I might just fold, although I generally don't like open-folding AQ preflop. You gotta call the re-raise.

2, You gotta call, it's not close.

3, This seems thin but is surely not a big mistake.

4, Push preflop, the raise is like a quarter of your stack! What is he gonna do, fold? After raising more than a quarter of his own stack?

5, I would just make a normal raise here. There isn't enough in the pot to make me feel comfortable pushing.

How can you guys even consider folding this hand!? You have like 2.5bb if you fold, and it's the SB who's pushing. And the whole table is a pushfest according to OP. And you have an Ace!

I also folded an A5 during the push fest, where the pusher was called and both had A2... I think if I had called it would have been split 3 ways due to over cards on board.

Just to clarify, it is a call, not just b/c I have an ace, but b/c it is a push fest AND blinds are huge, right?

Yes, blinds are big compared to your stack.

If this was level 1, you can fold this.

Re: $33\'s: Got my @$$ kicked AGAIN last night (5 hands)

Hand 2 is an easy call. You have to be calling something like the top 55% in this spot. The NE is something like 86/55, but you still have to call with the top 55% even if don't know what his pushing range is. He could be pushing the top 20% and you don't really mind calling 55% of the time since he is walking you four out of five times. So any deviation that he makes helps you while any deviation you make could be good or bad depending on how aggressive he is. I would take the sure thing.

Hand 3 I'm pushing any two. Yeah it might not always work out, but the villian is rooting for you to fold and that means I'm shoving.

Brad
