Re: Am I an idiot?

Pre-flop call is marginal, but okay.

If you have a question about your postflop play, then the answer to your question is yes.

Edit: Oh yeah, don't post results.

No I didn't. I said you were an idiot if you are asking us how to avoid suckouts.

Your postflop play is ridiculously standard.

Re: Am I an idiot?

also, what is wrong with min raising preflop? I'm looking for advice that I can use here. Enlighten me, don't just talk down to me. This is the first time i've posted a hand and you make me never want to do it again.

yeah man what if you get dealt AA right afterwards youd be like "damnit"

plus you get that "tilt factor" right after you lose a big pot

anyways, if you are really being serious w/this post...

I'm trying to figure out if this was a suckout or I am doing something wrong from the get-go which would mean it wasn't a suckout. I guess the answer was that it was a suckout, thanks for being so helpful and kind. pffft

Re: Am I an idiot?

either make a decent raise or don't pf. Based on the stack sizes you need to be pretty sure ur stacking reraiser when u hit to call his bet pf.

Post flop the best way to save money is not to put a dime in and then fold on the river when he obviously hits his flush.

From the get-go, I told you your PF call was marginal. Your min-raise PF, I don't personally like, but a few others disagree (not to mention, I thought you limped).

After the flop, you were a huge favorite. If you don't understand that this is a suckout, then you need to drastically revise your thought process regarding poker.

Posters in this forum tend to be fairly brutal when dealing with standard questions.

Personally, I don't think I said anything in this thread that you should feel offended by, unless you honestly think you played the flop poorly.

MrWizard 12-16-2005 09:31 PM

Re: Am I an idiot?

Well how do you play PP? Maybe that is a better question. Why is my minraise a leak? Give me some knowledge instead of just... you did it wrong.

Depends on table conditions:
In a tight game, I'd raise PF.
In an aggro game, I'd limp, and call a raise (depending on how big), or just fold.

Unfortunately, this question is incredibly general, and hard to answer.

What does a minraise accomplish? You don't knock out anybody, you open yourself up for a re-raise that you can't call, and you leave yourself in a bigger pot OOP with no hand (when you miss).

Re: Am I an idiot?

Ok, Im not gonna read the whole thread, but you are short stacked, flopped a set, and dont even say what villan had. THERE IS NOT STRATEGY IN THIS THREAD WHATSOEVER. This is an allin situation, standard variance, wtv. Totally useless, there is nothing to learn and nothing you can learn. What do you want us to say, fold flop? Thats ridiculous, and if you do, plzzzzz sit at my table.

OK, since you seem to be taking this all quite seriously I will be entirely serious with you.

that you questioned your flop play in OP showed lack of basics knowledge of NL. your pf play was decently bad too but not HORRID. We gave you legit feedback on your preflop play.

People here are often sarcastic half because we're just joking and half because we don't like posts that don't have much strategic content to them (and maybe 20% because we're A-holes, (I'm not a math major)).

I can't speak for other posters but I would assume this is why you got the responses you did.

It bothers us that you waste time+forum space continuing to pursue our advice when we have already given you advice, you just need to use common sense.
Using logic you should be able to come up what 2+2 thinks is the correct play here based on our responses.

I honestly mean this entire post in the nicest possible way. I hope it is helpful to you in the future of ur 2+2 experience

Love,
Pokerjoker

It is the first hand I posted. Lighten up. I learned from it, no reason to tack on a "quit crying" when this post was helpful in furthering my ability. This isn't all about you and your precious forum space. It is about learning, and sharing ideas. Sorry I don't have much to offer you, because I'm a beginner. You offered me insight, and I took it with me. Mission accomplished, everybody get off my back.

Re: Am I an idiot?

Making a min raise from EP with a pair of 3s makes no sense. Just limp in, call a raise that is 10% or less of the effective stacks, and play for a set on the flop.

The min raise was silly here, and it actually just worked to make the pot bigger so that the raise was more than 10% of your stack.

Anyway, the preflop raise was only just slightly more than 10%, so calling is bad but not catestrophic.

Once you flop your set, your job is to act in a way to get the most money in the pot as early as possible without letting possible draws be properly priced in to catch their outs. This board, for example, has a number of draws so betting/raising the flop is better than any kind of slow play.

BTW, if you ran into set over set, then reload and don't worry about it. Any other hand was behind you on the flop where you got all your money in and they'd have needed to get lucky (like 2 running hearts!).

This is the kind of post that is really helpful. I have been neglecting the 5-10 rule and that is going to stop now. Also the link to minraising was really helpful in solving some really big problems at the core of my game. Thanks.

Since you're new here, I'll give you a tip. Don't name a thread "Am I an idiot" and then post a bad beat. You won't get no for an answer.
