Grunch?

I keep seeing this, and have no idea what it means. What does it mean? Where did it come from? Why is everyone using it all of a sudden?

Re: Grunch?

it means to post blind, or to post your reply to the original post without looking at any other replies.

Re: Grunch?

And I call bs on most who put it in their posts...

What was wrong with the term "posting blind"?

Re: Grunch?

no idea. it comes from the small stakes board which i have barely read. maybe someone can fill us in on its origins

It's from microlimits, grunchcan made a big post about how everyone would improve faster if they replied to hand histories without reading everyone else's advice first.

That's a shame. I don't think that's true. Depending on the # of people who have already posted, I try to post the majority of mine blind, but I don't say grunch first, 'cause that's toolish.

Re: Grunch?

I said *most*.

When I read a post, with excellent content & close decisions, and see grunch 10+ times at least 20+ posts in, where the grunchers are giving the supposed "agreed upon" line, I cry foul. I do this because I read the subsequent posts from these grunchers who ask for advice in situations which are totally easier & not close.

Anyway, perhaps I'm jaded because my posts are usually ignored.

FYI the origin is from some guy named grunch or grunchy that created a really good post once that recommended doing it, and I think it was actually in the micros.

not even close to what I meant.

you are 10x more likely to have people help you analyze your hands if you help analyze theirs.

Re: Grunch?

Ok, thanks. Sorry.

Yeah, I think I've posted my own less than 3 times. However, when I post to help people (as done to PokerBob & Oreogod in the last 2 hours), I usually get ignored.

As I'm learning too, it would be cool to have a little more validation, but I guess I'll just keep plugging away.

Again, my apologies for misreading your post.

Ah, yeah, I think this is the one that really started the whole grunching phenomenon.

And yeah, that guy's a good poster, and they even made him a moderator in some far-off forum.

Sounds ripe for the grunchcan challenge! the point of it is to basically post and see if your analyses are good. Your game will improve. That's all that really matters. Check it out.

Re: Grunch?

I normally make my first post blind in a thread and then go back and read the thread, I just assume that that is most people's default, maybe I'm wrong

POKhER 12-13-2005 06:35 PM

Re: Grunch?

I usually grunch if im first in, but if its got say 8 replies ill type it out. Scrool down and read and then either post the grunched bit in italics then debate the other lines people said or just delete it to save repeating what others have said.

I may however repeat someones post if they haven't provided good reasons to a relatively new OP.

Grunching is highly recommend, to say its BS is well.. BS.

I like to post before reading responses because i'm a bandwagon kind of guy. Then i know my line is FOS when i get shouted down

I remember grunch from micros. He was da bomb.

Spicymoose 12-13-2005 07:11 PM

Re: Grunch?

I often post blind because when I read responses, I tend to start to nod my head and go "yeah, I like that", and then I don't realize that I actually would have done something differently. I don't always do it, because sometimes I'd like to hear what others have to say before fully explaining my points, but I try to mix it up.

I am just resistant to a changing vocabulary here at 2+2. Donk betting has already moved to the masses and is confusing everyone. "Posting blind" was working fine before . What is next, open raising from the CO is going to be called "the Snafu"?

I think sleeping with someone to get a move named after you should be called a "wynton".
