Deathwatch for Empire? (Sun noon and only 5k players 700 tables)

wow.. i am really surprised Empire still has 5k players playing. i would have thought when Eurobet jumped ship that empire would be a ghost town.

Is Empire surviving on 5k players?

Where can i find avg # of players on various sites?

Pokerpulse used to have this info, it has been "sleeping" for a few months now.

I logged on Tuesday or Wednesday at around 3am out of curiosity and there were 1,100 players.

Re: Deathwatch for Empire? (Sun noon and only 5k players 700 tables)

when i started playing in Feb of 2003 I thought it was incredible that Pokerstars (the only site I knew of) had 2k players on at a single time.

Live B&M rooms can survive with 10 tables or fewer.

And we don't really know how many players Empire had in the first place.

If it's any indication, Empire's MTT's are getting pretty much the same number of players as they did before.

5k players is a lot. They will still be making tons of bank. Just not as much bank as party. All of these new sites with 7 players would KILL for 5k. KILL.

Try this...

Empire 3rd Qtr info

Empire will survive post-party!

Re: Deathwatch for Empire? (Sun noon and only 5k players 700 tables)

exactly.

when party/empire were together and they had 70k players do you really think Empire had even half of those??

why people act like empire dropped from 70k to 5k is beyond me.
with the loss of some of the 2+2 multi-tablers and others then perhaps they dropped from 8k to 5k or something like that.
but they certainly didn't have a huge number of players before the split.

newsflash: most of the players on party/skins before the split actually played on party.

In other news: I won a poker table-top and cards and chip-set from Empire in their RoyalFlush club random drawing that I had forgotten I entered.
Pretty decent actually.
Table and chips should be about $50 in value each at least I would think (table-top might be worth more than $50....just low-balling).

Based on 3rd Qtr data, prior to the Party split, Empire represented roughly 10% of the players online on the Party netwok, at any given time.

In related news...

I just opened Absolute (8:34ET) and it shows almost 12k players. This is a little weired since I never see more than 8,000 at these hours. Ring games are pretty scarce but even the late night freerolls got almost 2000 players on each one.

If AP could just get its software improved, they will be a viable site. However, much of that traffic is play money.

If you are looking for Real Money stats, someone mentioned www.Whichpoker.com, and the site is awesome, but they didn't have absolute on there yet.

Empire is far from dead. 5000 players is an ample player base to remain profitable and grow for a long long time, even if it is shared with the skins remaining on the old network.

Planet poker is still around and has about 700 players tops.

Truepoker is still around and it is considered a "ghosttown."

Bugsys club mainly runs tournaments and has maybe 500 players at any given time.

There are a number of other small, non networked sites that have similar statistics which are still viable and offer a decent selection of games if you are willing to be flexible and loose the use of your pokertracker.

I think you seriously overestimate the operational costs of running an online poker room.

True, but consider that B+M poker is only a small fraction of the total revenue that the casino earns, and the casino can surely survive without it.

An online site offering only poker couldn't survive with such futility.

I respect you and your point is valid, but misleading.

Empire would continue to be a profitable company, even if it completely shut down its Party based operation!!! They only have 40 employees!

Don't forget Poker Mountain! At any given time they have at least 1 player, sometimes 2.

Yeah,
Whatever did happen to poo mountain? Last I heard Daniel N stopped wanting to have anything to do with them. It seems entry into the online poker market is so easy. How did they screw it up so badly?

I think the several times their Neteller account causing bounced Neteller transactions and the many tournaments they blew I think the masses did not trust them. The software was terrible tooand no one wanted to play 3/6 with a $2 small blind.

As has the percentage of players who have read slanksky books. I think ABS has the highest average skill level of any medium or large site.

I just saw my first absolute tv ads this weekend. Maybe they've been doing it for a while and I just missed it, but these were the first one's I've seen. That may help their player base even more.

Who said it was easy? Easy if you got in on the ground floor maybe, but there are tons of newer sites that are struggling or have already gone bust.

Re: Deathwatch for Empire? (Sun noon and only 5k players 700 tables)

I played Empire occasionally for about 4 months because I had a solid rakeback deal there, however I hadn't played since the split. After reading this thread yesterday, I logged back on to see what the games were like, played for about an hour, then promptly withdrew about 75% of the funds in there.

Today I get an e-mail from Empire saying:

"We are happy to invite you to join our Exclusive VIP players club, dedicated to our most valued members whose loyalty to EmpirePoker and whose poker skills are beyond question. Your balance has been updated to 5000 EPoints, which you can now redeem and use, as a VIP."

I know I was no where near 5000 points when they split, maybe around 2000. Shows that maybe they are a little desperate to keep people playing there.

Just thought that was sorta interesting

Re: Deathwatch for Empire? (Sun noon and only 5k players 700 tables)

Responding to a couple of posts:

AP has been advertising on TV for quite some time now.
I don't see them in my home area of Memphis. But it seems everywhere I've travelled I've been seeing them pretty frequently.

Bobloblaw - Your experience is very similar to what was happening before the split. We had about 9-zillion threads on here about how long it takes to get bumped to 5k points.
The fact that they didn't bump you until you got to 2k points means that you took longer than many players did (quite a few reported getting bumped at only 1k points).

This was common-practice for empire before the split. They migth be desperate or they might not be....but the fact that they are bumping players to VIP is not even close to showing any desperation since they've been doing this all along.
