Can a casino kick you out for no reason?

Friend wants to know:
[ QUOTE ]
Are casinos allowed to deny a customer the right to play with no reason whatsoever?

If they denied you the right to play because you were black, they would be shut down for discriminating. So would they be allowed to deny you the right to play, with NO reason whatsoever, and get away with it?

Depends on a place. Almost all indian casinos (including big ones like Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun etc) can kick you out without explanation and sue you for tresspassing if they see you there again.Atlantic City casinos can't kick you out really. Don't know about Vegas.

Re: Can a casino kick you out for no reason?

I think in Vegas they can bar your from entering or tell you to leave the casino for whatever reason. This is how they keep known card counters out before they even play a single hand of blackjack. Las Vegas has rules which are very friendly to the casino in this regard

Re: Can a casino kick you out for no reason?

i think rules like this exist for most businesses. for example, a grocery store can refuse to sell food to anyone without giving them a reason. there are exceptions however. you can't discriminate against someone. so if the person can prove you didn't let them by a twinkie because you hate people with mullets, you may have a lawsuit on your hands.

I think the rights of mullets are only protected in the deep south. You can safely get away with violating the civil rights of a mullet north of the Mason-Dixon line.

They call it "tresspassing you". The reason is that a casino is private property, thus, you are tresspassing on their property and they want you off of it. So yes, they can boot you for no reason, but hardly anyone would do it for no reason at all.

This is correct in Vegas. In New Jersey a similar law was challenged in court and the casinos in Atlantic City can no longer tresspass patrons.

In New York, we have the tresspass law as well, so once they legalize poker here (HA!) they can throw you out of the cardrooms.

Re: Can a casino kick you out for no reason?

In Nevada, a casino can deny service to anyone without providing a reason as long as they are not discriminating against a member of a "protected group," i.e. as long as they're not doing this on the basis of age, sex, color, religion, national origin, etc. Nevada courts have ruled that card counters are not members of a protected group.

Re: Can a casino kick you out for no reason?

Obviously yes, but a lot of shyt casinos do won't stand up to a legal challenge, (if you are up for doing so). Mostly, it's not worth it. Most joints are no more than legal ripoffs anyway.

They used to kick out Blackjack card counters all the time back in the 4 deck days, it was perfectly legal.

Still is. These days, if you're good enough to count the 8 deck shoes, they make you an offer you can't refuse*.

Yes I have, you're absolutely right. And, well, West Virginia for that matter, although W.V. is south of the Mason-Dixon Line.

Yes there private property they have the right to refuse anyone for any "legit" reason.

Without a reason? Probably they have a reason (might be a bad one but still) otherwise why would they do it? If there was no reason everybody would be shut out.

Re: Can a casino kick you out for no reason?

I am no longer welcome to play blackjack in a certain riverboat casino on the Iowa/Illinois border. I can feel free to partake of any of the other fabulous gaming opportunities offered by said casino, but I will be trespassing if I ever play blackjack again. (Yes, this is a sort of a brag post, but I'm not nearly so cool as it would suggest. My backing off was entirely unwarranted. I was wonging nonsmoking tables during off-peak time for quarters while waiting for a poker table. I made some count-correct insurance decisions that the dealer and then the pit didn't care for. Then I foolishly played dumb until the pit was pretty much forced to back me off.)

It's a myth that an 8-deck shoe is tougher to count than a 4-decker...unless dividing by the numbers 5-8 is more difficult for you than dividing by 1,2,3,4. and if it is, u should not be a card counter.

It WILL provide you with fewer positive expectation situations. You need a wider bet spread to play through the negative expectation situations while waiting for a good count. It is also harder to backcount profitably.

I believe the case in AC is that the NJ Gaming Commission is the only entity allowed to formally bar players from casinos and that a barring excludes a player from any casino in the state.

Individual casinos can (and have) take other countermeasures, such as preferrential shuffling or enforcing a bet-size restriction on a card counter at the blackjack tables.
