To libertarians / Rand clones

Would you oppose FDR's new deal of the early 30's?

Is this a serious question?

No I support a full Marxist revolution. Are all your questions that stupid?

I see why you have 2 *'s already. Pretty much by definition a libertarian would be opposed to the vast increase in federal power that occured because of the New Deal.

Now unless your contention with this thread was to point out how libertarians got it all wrong and the New Deal was not a blow to federalism and limited government, this thread is pointless.

Re: To libertarians / Rand clones

Go make a thread asking PVN if he likes authoritarian governments.

Re: To libertarians / Rand clones

My planned response to the intended libertarian response of "yes we oppose it" was "didn't the new deal bring America out of a terrible depression".

It didn't. And by many accounts it made it worse. WWII brought America out of the depression.

Didn't slavery make a strong economy for the south? Your arguments are terrible.

You're free to spread your misery elsewhere if you wish Tom Collins. I am not forcing you to respond here and listen to my "terrible" arguments. If you are not going to speak civily to me, I will ask you to not speak to me at all.

If I could travel back in time and kill any single person, it would without a doubt be FDR. That evil [censored] did incalculable damage to this country.

Of course not. The Raw Deal exacerbated and lengthened a recession into the Great Depression. By the way, I wonder who coined that phrase. Only a socialist could call a depression great.

Just curious, but have you ever taken one econonics course? Even in high school (are you even out of high school)?

I'm quite certain that Jesus hasn't done any damage to this country. Seeing as even if he existed (which I doubt), he died 1750 years before it was founded. Any damage done by others in his name is not his fault.

Why would increased government spending on public services not function in the same manner as government spending on the military?

I would find more offense with someone who called a war great. Luckily we've never done that. Right?

Do you know how much money was spent on the new deal? Do you know how much money was spent on the war?

That is your first hint to why. Keyensian economics works, but requires a helluva lot of funding to get off the ground. A lot more than the new deal.

Maybe in a very stretched out way (like the economy would be worse off if Hitler invaded the U.S.

Otherwise, monster wars like WWII are a waste of people and resources.

Ok, we made a few thousand airplanes and and tanks. We made millions of uniforms as well. Do you think the GDP increased because of this?

I'm not saying its not a waste. I'm simply stating that it improved the economy.

Would you say in general that war is not good for the economy? I remember hearing in a speech by george bush that war is bad for the economy and thought to myself that is obviously false. Perhaps I am mistaken. Do you claim that war is always (or almost always) bad for the economy?

You need a definition of improving the economy. I am using the standard definitions of GDP, employment, and inflation.

Of course not. Where did the money come from?

If you can help the economy by making uniforms, why not just pass a law requiring everyone to wear jumpsuits? Would all of the men wearing uniforms have gone without clothing if FDR didn't force them to wear uniforms?

Absurd.
