Chapped lips.

I often have chapped lips. When I use lip balm, I use cherry chapstick, or blistex lip ointment. All the balm does is temporarily relieve the dry feeling. My lips dont crack or bleed, but they do peel.

Anyone have tips on healthy lips? thanks.

Keep using chapstick/lip balm? Move to the tropics?

Buy good quality chapstick, I know alot of people who buy crap at the dollar store (lol yes) and it smells like candy. Use something like Blistex if you really have alot of pain... I always use lypsyl and it's the best. (cherry or regular)

I knew some people who swore by Carmex, but they also said it was addicting. Straight Vaseline also works well.

hi, I used to have sever chapped lips too, sometimes it
still happens once in a while. there are two things u gotta
do.

1) buy some chap stick lip balm with the ultra spf 30, its
at CVS for like a dollar somethin

2) when ur lips are chapped, take a long warm shower and
let ur dead skin get soaked. then use ur finger to
exofoliate it in the shower.
after your done takin a shower use cotton shirt or somethin
to get whats left of it, wham the skin is brand new.
after that use the lip balm to keep it from cracking again.

do this i guarentee u'll be fixed!

You're probably dehydrated. Hydrate and chap stick and you'll be fine.

This chapstik tends to make my lips worse. Carmex is horrible... makes them much worse. Cherry chapstick is not so bad.

I try to stay hydrated, but havnt done such a good job in the last week or so. Exfoliating sounds like an idea to try.

If you don't have a social agenda for the evening, putting on vaseline overnight helps (after exfoliating, of course )

Burt's Beeswax. There's nothing better.

Or you could just use plain old vaseline(read: not the vaseline lip balm), that works wonders too.

Re: Chapped lips.

Get a humidifier for your bedroom. Get a decent model that will pump out quite a bit of water vapors every night. This should remedy things greatly.

far and away the best thing for chapped lips is "vasaline" (im not kidding), but some on your lips before you go to bed.

Also, like everyone else has said, drink more water

Burt's Bees chapstick works really great. It's got peppermint oil in it which feels great on chapped lips. You can find it at Walgreens or another drug store and the tube is a yellow color.

The remedy for chapped lips in the old west was to put some horse crap on you lips... that way, at least you stop licking them.

Re: Chapped lips.

I swear by Dermatone lip balm. It's quite a bit less habit forming than other balms because it actually stays on your lips for a long time, so you don't need to carry it around with you and constantly be re-applying. It's light years better (and is marketed for) use when skiing or otherwise facing the elements.

Carmex is medicated and does a great job to ease the burning sensation of chapped lips but is so wet and oily that it wants for re-application after 15 minutes or so.

Burt's bee's would probably be my third choice in balms and, like carmex, seems to be a little addicting.

I run in fear from all chapstick products.

uw_madtown 12-10-2005 12:57 AM

Re: Chapped lips.

The idea that Carmex should be avoided because it's addicting may be the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

It's [censored] lip balm, not heroin.

Dependance on lip balm can happen. Hypothesis: If you use it too often, your lips wont develop their own moisture as well.

It certainly can be if you don't replenish the water tank with fresh water frequently as well as swap out the filter every once in a while. As long as you do this it stays nice and clean, and will really take care of chapped lips, dry skin and other conditions resulting from low humidity.

Sorry, I didn't mean you or anyone specifically here. I've heard that line used a lot before, is all. Like, every time it comes up... there's always someone who says "OMG CARMEX IS ADDICTIVE YOU SHOULD NOT USE IT."
