Im home for a couple days from moving to austin (btw roomate chick is a TOTAL PSYCHO, lemme know if you want a trip report), and I just realized that I left my contact case and liquid in austin.

I am broke, really dont wanna go buy more (have about 4 bucks to my name) and my eyes are really starting to hurt.

whaddya think guys? distilled water?

these just happen to be my last contacts, which I've been wearing for about a month longer than I should.

god I love college broke.

Shot glasses and tap water will be fine.

I've done this before. Of course the girl I slept with that night thought she was helping me clean out the bathroom and washed the shot glasses for me, so I don't know if my contacts would have been OK or not.

DON'T use distilled water. Saline solution has salt in it just like your natural tears. Putting them in your eyes after soaking in distilled water is going to pull the water out of the contacts into your eyes and dry them out (osmosis).

Just put them in tap water. Tap water will do the same thing, but to a much lesser extent. It will take your eyes a little while to moisten them, but it won't hurt your eyes.

I've used the solution from an I.V. bag before, so if you happen to see an unattended ambulance........

Putting contacts in tap water isnt so bad, but they wont feel too great when you put them in your eyes in the morning. Probably should yawn a couple of times before putting those contacts in so your eyes are at least more moistened.

yes, i know it sounds fuzzy or whatever, but being dehydrated or not drinking enough can lead to your eyes drying out and hurting when you have contacts in.

You leave your contacts on top of the DVD player?

Borrow saline solution from somebody. Don't you have any friends or neighbors who wear contacts? Do not use tap water or distilled water, and it's not best to leave them in your eyes the whole time either. I've seen too many eye infections from all of these things. Just saw a 19 year-old girl with a contact lens corneal ulcer yesterday, and it's unlikely she'll ever be 20/20 again with her right eye.

7ontheline, eye M.D. (for credibility's sake)

If she was 20/20 to begin with, then why was she wearing contacts?

Re: where else to put contacts

mix two tablespoons of regular salt with half a cup of ordinary tap water. add a tiny splash of bleach to kill any bacteria. this should work fine until you can buy some solution.

Redundant.

I think you should spend the 4 bucks on saline solution and not have dried out contacts/eyes for the next couple of days.

Ditto; in the spring I went three days without being able to see anything because at the time I was wearing daily-wear contacts, didn't have a spare pair and had misplaced my glasses.

He means that even with corrective lenses she won't be 20/20. About a month ago my right eye's cornea got [censored] up somehow and even with contacts or glasses I was 20/150 in that eye. Fortunately it healed after the doctor prescribed me not to wear my contacts and to use the most painful medication I have ever used (Muro-128) and now I can see 20/20 with lenses again.

Re: where else to put contacts

Sneak into the optomotrists place (the sort of ones where they sell glasses too). Make it seem as if you are supposed to be there. Steal the appropriate lens cleaner and all-purpose solution.

Bear in mind, you WILL be using a move silently check and a hide in shadows check. Theres no way around it.
