AA, Flushy, straighty

Preflop: Hero is BB with A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. 3 folds. SB raises to $2, Hero raises to $6, SB calls Flop: K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players) SB checks. Hero bets $10, SB calls Turn: T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players) SB checks, Hero checks. River: 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players) Villain bets $9, Hero... Final Pot: This was still in my first orbit at the table, so no reads. I didn't think that KQ was in villain's hand range and that, as loose as players at this level tend to be, he would have released AQ on the flop. Since I hold the A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], a flush is much less likely. So my question is, would you look him up gettig ~3:1 on my money? Sorry the converter forgot to include this. Part 50NL, so .25-.50, I have $50, villain has $45. |
Re: AA, Flushy, straighty
hmm.. doesnt seem like 1pr wins this hand.. but im pretty unsure about the whole thing.
what are the blinds/stacks? probably wouldve bet the turn and folded to a raise. |
Re: AA, Flushy, straighty
With your weak turn check you have to call this.
Bet the turn and plan to check behind the river unimproved. You are drawing to the nuts and villain probably does not have the flush. |
Re: AA, Flushy, straighty
I would at least make it 4x his raise pre-flop if you're going to raise (but I also cold-call a lot right here).
I definately look him up on the river. |
Re: AA, Flushy, straighty
Raise more preflop, bet flop, bet turn, check behind river (unless you hit)...thats probably the line I would've preferred. Stack sizes would be nice too
As played I probably call reluctantly |

[/ QUOTE ] Well, I decided that with my overpair+gutshot+flush draw, I'd take the free card because I could see myself getting checkraised there a lot. |
Re: AA, Flushy, straighty
Its too passive...in the event that you don't hit, your AA might very well be no good. You want to give him the option to fold

Re: AA, Flushy, straighty
Any hand without a Queen is at the very least thinking about folding...and it puts you in a good position to bluff the river if you are so inclined

If villain is aggressive enough to check that turn, then I can understand the check., but i need a good read on villain before I back off here. |
Re: AA, Flushy, straighty
Definitely look him up. I think that the 50NL level, AK and maybe even KQ and QQ stick around on that flop and bet the river after you check the turn.

[/ QUOTE ] You know that KQ and QQ beat me now, right? The only hands villain could have that I beat are AK and AJ, although I certainly put them well within his hand range. |
Re: AA, Flushy, straighty
I'm a bit surprised that people disliked my turn check so much. That turn card completed a lot of draws and gave me a lot of draws, so my thinking was that although I might have the best hand, I didn't want to play a big pot with my one pair, and I wanted to take a free card to try to complete rather than bet to protect when all I would be doing is bloating the pot with a vulnerable hand.
Villain's line was really very strange to me and so I looked him up. He showed A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] for 2PTK and MHIG. |
Re: AA, Flushy, straighty
Nothing "wrong" with your line. It is a little passive, but against a villain who you feel is capable of making a turn check raise, it is fine as long as your plan was to call if he led the river. Any line that will lead to hero folding is the worst scenario.

Re: AA, Flushy, straighty
Raise more PF, but other than that it looks fine to me. I might be inclined to fold without a read, but he might interpert that turn check as weakness and be making a move with TP or something. I'd call, but not be surprised to see myself getting beat.
