turning donk
Villain is 34/20/2.2 over 400 hands. Pretty aggro, but not totally insane. He has an aggressive impression of me, and I think he could 3 bet down to AT/9s, 77
Party Poker 5/10 Hold'em (6 max, 6 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx Preflop: Hero is UTG with Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. Hero raises, MP 3-bets, 4 folds, Hero calls. I considered c/c b/c. I considered turn c/r. I considered 3 betting his riase. I thought he might see a river donk coming, and take free turn with underpair. |
Re: turning donk
I'd check-raise the flop instead, try and go for bets there. Sometimes when you slow play like this, and he doesnt have an ace, they lose their mouth off the hook.
|
Re: turning donk
cap preflop. you have a slight edge over his stated range, and it will be easier to know where you stand postflop if you keep the initiative.
the way you played it, i check-raise the flop. |
Re: turning donk
With this player I maintain more control over the hand by not capping preflop. I think this outweighs the small edge I forfeit by not capping. He has position and I should plan on seeing showdown, as it is quite possible he could push me off of the best hand.

Re: turning donk
there's no reason to give up preflop equity.
if you miss the flop, you can check-call the whole way if you are intent on showing down, and it may end up being cheaper because cap/check will confuse the hell out of him. |

He might do this without an A, and go into c/f c/f mode. Or he might do this with a weaker A. This guy was tricky and aggressive, but I wouldn't be that surprised if it was one of you crazy LAGs. |
Re: turning donk
my equity edge is really, really, quite tiny. HE has position, and I gain a tactical advantage by not capping. I leave my hand range ambiguous, so he is more likely to misread me later.

Re: turning donk
I like the turn action, Bet Call avoids a horrible 3betted situation but you still get an idea on how much he likes his hand.
i think this hand is played pretty well, river card? p.s. I think you're often ahead here so i may also bet the river. |

However being out of position I don't like 3betting the turn -- our hand is not worth 5 big bets |
Re: turning donk
Bet the river again.

Re: turning donk
I am just ABC'ing this. Bet/3-bet the flop. Bet the turn. Bet the river. He may be playing aggro with KQ[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], and so I don't want to give free cards.
edit: we have the Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] hmmm. |

[/ QUOTE ] I agree with this. I think it would also suck to have face him OOP with a raggedy flop, after a pre-flop cap. |
Re: turning donk
river is a Q and I check.
bet/3 bet would probably have been better? |
Re: turning donk
If he's the type to make freecard/free showdown plays then I would bet every street and call every raise, including the river.
