Orange Bowl - Tie Ins?

Anyone know how this works? Must they choose the ACC AND Big East champs? Or do they get only one?

The ACC champion is tied in to the Orange Bowl.

What is the reason for these tie-ins? It would be a millions times better if the BCS could match teams up as they please (FSU WVU anyone?)

FSU has been tied-in to a beatdown at the hands of PSU

Amen.

God I wish we could have a crack at Texas or USC.

No, it's more like so you could feel happy in the 1st half for PSU hanging there until Reggie Bush or Vince Young drop a couple of TD's in the first 5 minutes of the third quarter.

Penn State isn't exactly Colorado.

They could definitely hang with either team, but wouldn't be a favorite.

Re: Orange Bowl - Tie Ins?

Ok, now you're both exaggerating.

Texas or SC are about seven points better than PSU. And Texas or USC can very quickly take PSU out of the game.

PSU hangs there, but Texas and USC just outplay them.

DoubleDown 12-04-2005 10:08 PM

Re: Orange Bowl - Tie Ins?

i also agree that PSU definitely hangs in there with either TX or USC.

they almost ran the table on a schedule that was much tougher than either TX's or USC's. only loss was a last sec defeat in the big house.
they arguably have had the #1 defense for 2 years running.

people should save their overrated rants for notre dame, and give psu the respect they deserve

Re: Orange Bowl - Tie Ins?

Let me summarize my position:
PSU = Very good.
Texas/USC = OMFG, how the hell do they do that?! So unfair to play against them.

texas-psu would likely be very close. remember, osu played texas super close and lost in the end. psu beat osu in a super close game.

i dont see why this mathup wouldnt be very close.

Both conferences are tied to the Orange Bowl. The Bowl gets to choose which one of the two the prefer.

Re: Orange Bowl - Tie Ins?

I'd see Texas as a 5-6 pt. favorite over PSU, and USC laying maybe 8. Both would be interesting games though.

Re: Orange Bowl - Tie Ins?

the fact that penn st fans see themselves as being about a TD underdog to USC or Texas makes me even more confident that Penn St would be a large underdog to both.

I was surprised to read somewhere that Vegas would have OSU as a favorite over any team except USC and only a 3 point dog there.

Anyway, Texas and USC aren't *that* much better than everyone else.

Everyone discussing PSU,

I wish PSU could get a crack at Texas or USC so that I won't have to spend the rest of my life wondering what could have been. I will never stop wondering what if we had beaten Michigan, or what if Fresno State didn't turn it over eighteen times and had beaten USC.

Even if we lost, it would be fun to have that chance.

Hater. Penn state could beat either at home, but would be dogs on a neutral site or away. Not 20 points, have you seen PSU's defense? Notre Dame pretty much beat USC at home, no reason to think PSU couldn't.

TomCollins,

We should have, but I don't know if it would have been enough. I would be 10,000x more bitter if we were 11-0 and got shafted.

Noggin,

You are so correct. We had the best homefield advantage in the country this year.

$110 for 35 yard line upstairs. We bought them directly after the Wisconsin game (was pretty sure ND would win out too).
