One year ago today, I....

Found this cool thread in 1-table tournaments, thought it would be nice to have one over here as well. Not that my story will be interesting, but I know that many of yours will be.

One Year Ago Today, I...
-Was losing buyin after buyin in live $20 NL games at my college
-Thought online play was for suckers
-Had never even played limit poker before

Since then, I have...
-Stopped playing NL, and have no intention of returning
-Made the Party 1/2 6-max tables my home
-Found the 2+2 forums and commenced my poker education
-Grown a bankroll from 600 (in June) to 2600, mostly whoring bonuses
-Finally started to understand how to play this game, as a direct result of moving from full ring to 6-max

Enjoy, I hope to get responses from all the old vets in the crowd...

One Year Ago:
-I was playing exclusively at UB. Didn't know what I wanted to do poker wise. SNG, MTT, Limit, NL everything. Pretty much breaking even just on nerves and moxy.
-No Poker Tracker
-No 2+2
-No Gametime+
-No PA Hud
-No Books
-No Bonuswhore.com
$700 Bankroll

One Year Later:
-Play exclusively 2/4 limit
-Beginning to graduate from bonuswhoring although I still do when I don't want to think too much.
-Have read several books
-Study at 2+2
-Have all the software toys
-Bought a 56" Samsung DLP TV (which I HIGHLY recommend)
-Bought 1/2 of a 500 sq ft deck of the house made from exotic brazilian hardwood (Ipe which I also HIGHLY recommend)
-Have a working bankroll of $2000 which I suck back to $1200 every month since I am not good enough to take on 3-6 yet.
-Total Bankroll without withdraws: $10,000

One Year From Now:
-Playing 5-10 6max comfortably
-Still doing all the good things that I do now.
-Diamond Earings for the Mrs. (She puts up with a lot of crap when I run bad)
-Computer armoire since the ratty desk in the family room really looks awful
-$3000 bankroll
-Total Winings of $25,000 (Which means that I need to find some other outlets for my winnings !!!)

We will see!!

One year ago I was finishing up my second to last semester of college. I was playing a little online for second time, the first I went up, couldn't handle the downswing, and cashed out, barely above even. I was playing SnG's.

Today I have built up 4k from $200 since May. I am moving up to 3/6 at moment, and learning a lot from 3/6. I work a job that is more boring than school too.

One Year Ago:

I had just recently learned the game of Texas Hold'em thanks to some micro buy-in ($2-$5) home tourney-style games. I may have monied in one or two by now, but it was not due to my brilliant play. I was a donator, but so was everyone, for the most part. I had decided I wanted to kick all their asses.

I had decided that I sucked too much at playing Magic online, and it was too much of a time/money drain to be worth it. I was looking for a new game.

I may have started playing some play money LHE on Full Tilt, to see if I actually could win at this poker thing.

Today:

I am taking a shot at 5/10 6 max.

I busted out on the bubble at the last home game tourney I played.

I've bought myself a new computer with my poker winnings.

One Year Ago Today, I...
-Was playing 30+3 SNGs
-Had never played above 1/2 limit online
-Used my limited poker earnings for fun

Since then, I have...
-Become a dad (baby boy in January)
-Switched to 1/2 6-max, then 2/4 full, and now 5/10 6-max (since May)
-Grown a bankroll from 1500 in January to a little less than I need for a full jump to 10/20 6-max
-Learned a lot about adjusting my decisions based on the tendencies of my opponents
-Learned that there is a lot more to be learned before I consider myself a truly good player
-Started to rely on poker earnings for a growing portion of household expenses
-Learned that there is a lot of money to be made in moving up through the limits, but that poker as a source of income takes a lot of mental toughness to handle the swings

1 year ago today,

I was lurking at 2+2, learning a great deal, found out about bonus whoring and was playing .50/1 and 1/2. I played every week at home games, and almost always won, just by being tight and aggressive (sound familiar). Everyone else I played with was terrible, so I began studying this site, and buying books.

Since then I have,

learned shorthand, fell in love with it, and don't plan on playing full ring anytime soon. I have moved up to 2/4 and 3/6, and am able to buy lots of fun things without using my money from work. I began looking at poker in a new way.

Solid idea for a thread.

One year ago:

Called down because I thought QKA23 was a straight
Dropped 200$ in online poker playing 50c/1
I was lost and had no idea how to play poker and should have quit before I started

Today:

I play 5/10 and am pretty sure I can beat that game
I know that rap-around straights don't count
I think I am a solid player and enjoy taking money from wackos

-Not even thinking about playing poker. Had never played a hand online or a home.

Since then, I have...
- Found 2+2 and BW in May
- Read SSHE cover to cover
- Started with $200 bonus at Pacific. One tabled until I cleared the bonus. Worked up to .5/1
- Starting whoring, got PT
- Got to 1/2 then switched to 6max
- Spent a gazillion hours reading this *&$&% forum and logging hands
- Taking my time moving up

- just getting semi-serious about learning poker and was a winning .5/1 player 2 tabling
- had SSHE, PT and GT+

Since then, I have....
- discovered the joys of 6 max (around march)
- foolishly turned down wookie's offer to do session studies with him due to my impending wedded bliss
- enjoyed a couple months of sucking at 6max on UB 2/4 6 max
- bought a Ins 9300 with my winnings at that point
- moved back down to 1/2 6max and tightened up a bit
- enjoying spinning my wheels at 3/6 6max party

One year ago today -

Almost exactly one year ago I deposited my first $50 at Party.
I ran it up to $500 playing slightly less moronically than my competition. I thought I was a genius.
I played 1/2 with friends and worried about losing too much money.

Since then I have ...

Moved from .50/1 to 10/20.
Found a home game with some great players who have taught me a ton.
Read every book I could find.
Learned to bonus whore.
Had my first two months with five figure earnings (verrrrry low five figures, but still).
Spent an insane number of hours working on my game and lurking here.

true story...one year ago i remember getting so upset at a .25/.50 table seeing my trip jacks lose to some guy who rivered a straight. I had no idea a straight beat 3 of a kind...some guy had to explain it to me in the chat.

...one year ago i just had rolled my free $10 at Royal Vegas up to $200, did the granny bonus, hit up all the party skins and was starting to become a major bonus whore, blackjack whore...

One year later I have cashed out over 5 figures in winnings and won and lost another 5 figures by playing 20/40 30/60 shorthanded well above my bankroll.

One year from now I will not be such an arrogant tilting fool and I will have a a 1000 BB roll for 10/60 6-max and lots of winnings in the bank.

One Year Ago...
I was losing 40 and 60 every other week at the local indian casino playing 1/2 with the theory: "they're dumb, im smart, i can play any 2 suited and just raise them and ill win money"
I had just deposited 50 into party not knowing anything about poker
Just got SSHE for christmas from another 2+2er and he introduced me to the site

Today
Read thoroughly SSH once and reread/skimmed it about 3-5 times, read (not thorough enough though i think) TOP and HEFAP
I have since logged about 25k hands at .5/1 and 22k of that in 6m since party started those tables
Whored lots of money, but cash out too much, but i still have a decent br for 1/2
Keep taking shots at 1/2 and am getting killed for some reason, i think its cuz of my scared fps play

One Year from now
Hope to be comfortable at 3/6 6m
Thoroughly read TOP and HEFAP
Keep more money in my br so its easier to take shots at higher lvls

A year ago:

Was playing 3/6 full ring. Then 10+1 SNGs. NL25, 50 in Feb thru April.

Now:
I'm playing 3/6 6m trying to learn how to get out of my 100bb downswing and continued running poorly. I <3 rakeback.

Re: One year ago today, I....

Neat idea.

One year ago ...
Hmmmm, I had never played HE and barely heard of it. I didn't even know the hand rankings.

Six months ago ...
Started with play money NL online.
Read SSHE and HFAP.
Deposited $80 online and played micro NL.
Learned about fluctuations, but I never lost my initial roll.

Today ...
Bankrolled for 2/4 6-max and play a few hours a day.
Own 21 poker books (mostly 2+2 ones). Have read cover to cover 17 of them.
Trying to post as much as I can on here.
Bought PT and PokerAce HUD so I can pwnz.

One year from now ...
Hope to be playing 30/60 or above and have big enough cajones to move to the MHSH forum.

Don't plan to go pro, since I've already just about finished my PhD and have decent jobs ahead of me, but it's a great hobby.

Since then, I...

... have learned the art of the razor-thin value bet.

One year ago:

1.I was playing every single night for 5-6 hours 1/2(6 max.
2. Had a $ 2700 bankroll

Today:

1. I've finally made the jump to 10/20 (6 max)
2. First month I go over $10k in winnings
3. Have saved quite a bit, bought a car and still have a healthy 1000 BB bankroll for 10/20

Next year:

1.I would like to relearn full ring and move up to the Party 30 game

2. Make $120 k and set up a business

One year ago today, I...

-played a few $5 and $10 NL home games with my dorm mates
-had signed up for 2+2 the week before
-found out people actually play this game on the internet FOR REAL MONEY!!
-did not know that there was a 'limit' texas hold'em

One Year Later I...

-turned 19 (in Jan) and decided I wanted to try this online and started bonus whoring
-went to the casino a few times, and decided I liked this 'limit' hold'em
-have moved through the levels, and am currently playing 5/10 6m with a 500BB roll, and have made over double that which has helped pay for school

One Year From Now...

-Hopefully 15/30 or 30/60 making 6 figures a year while in college

-Had played a little bit of online poker, but only for play money

Since then I have...
-Bought and read Matthew Hilger's book, read SSHE and these forums a lot

-Turned the $50 I got for signing up at Party under an affiliate into a $10K bankroll mostly through casino whoring
-Along the way I withdrew enough money to completely pay off my wife's student loans and pay for a really nice honeymoon
-Been thinking about moving up to the 10/20 game at Party

Next year I hope to...
-Be beating the Party 10/20 game for the same BB/100 I have at the 5/10 right now
-Be thinking about moving up to the Party 20/40 and 30/60 games
-Win a satellite into a major poker tournament

...Poker? I don't even KNOW 'er!

(laugh track goes wild)

Seriously, at this point poker isn't even on the radar screen. I had just broken up with my gf, and was concentrating on career and music. But I had also told the Mariners where to stick their season tickets, leaving a void that would need to be filled, and...hey, that celebrity poker show has the Kids In The Hall guy on it! I LOVE Kids In The Hall!

Today...

I've got a mid-4-figure bankroll, thanks to winning $2000 in one week, I'm winning consistently at 2/4 6-max, and am about to plunge into the looser world of live poker. Cool new job too - miss getting up at the crack of 10, though.
