December Goals

It's time to set our December goals and note how we did last month with our November goals.

beenben 11-28-2005 06:08 AM

Re: December Goals

My November goals were:

1) avoid on line poker- failed miserably.
2) avoid B & M poker- failed.
3) get a paper route so I won't be available for on line poker or B & M poker- tried and failed.
4) get out of debt- ha ha ha.
5) don't get further into debt - accomplished, I think.
6) build a bankroll hee hee hee
7) read harrington's book - almost done with vol. 1.
8) play TTM on the computer- did a little, but need to do more.
9) if I have to play, play for play money or at least play within my non-existent bankroll- did better at this. for a time.

December Goals:

1) spend less time playing poker and more time writing
2) spend less money on poker
3) finish harrington
4) play texas hold em on the computer for free / practice

Re: December Goals

I didn't set any November goals, but I made 3 or 4 final tables on limited playing time, which is always nice. Last weekend I won about $15k by getting 3rd in a $109 and 2nd in a $216 (both on FTP), so it's been my best month ever.

1. Don't fail out of grad school.
2. Get another final 3 in a $100+ buy-in tournament. Hopefully win it this time.
3. Qualify for Atlantis if I ever stop being a pussy about playing these satellites (or if they fit my schedule).
4. Don't donk off large amounts this nice 'roll I've finally built up.

Re: December Goals

First time i have done goals so here they are.

1.Reread HoH1 and read HoH2
2.Win a MTT instead of being happy with a decent placing.
(I still have not one one with more than 40 entrants, had a few top 5 place for some good profit, but i really want that win)
3.Qualify for the £150k Xmas special on William Hill

Re: December Goals

My goals last month were probably contradictory: "Win more at poker" "Play less poker".

Well, I'm not in school for most of December and have no job, so December's much easier:

1) play tons of poker
2) win all 3 bodog guaranteed tournaments that I've been pwning
3) play lots of 10.50 HU SnGs and try out 21 HU SnGs
4) apologize to parents for bad grades and figure out easier classes to take next semester
5) find a nice live cash game by my new place (Ossining, NY in Westchester county. PM me if the stakes are 1/2 or lower. If stakes are higher than 1/2, only PM me if you/your friends suck really bad.)
6) keep records

Lots of goals... I think I can actually do all of them fairly easily though.

My November goals were

1) Only play MTT's. No cash games allowed
2) Win $
3) Win the 2+2 MTT TLB contest

1) Check
2) Check
3) Check

I'm g00t

As for december

1) $
2) That's it

Re: December Goals

ok, november was lame, ive been sick more than a week, and i was kinda busy with other things, and i only got 113 tournaments in so far. Still managed to get a profit, but not all that much. And i'm not top 100 for the month yet (gonna shift gears these last few days) so i havn't done that goal.

ok for dececmber:

- Play a lot again. 250+ tournaments.
- PCA seat.
- Stop being sick

11-28-2005 05:51 PM

Re: December Goals

1) Start tracking my MTT entries with Exit's spreadsheet
2) Read SSHE, HOH1/2, Super System 1, Zen and the Art of Poker
3) Final table more
4) Clear some bonuses (Limit)

Re: December Goals

1. stop sucking at mtt's
2. stop playing games that i'm not rolled for
3. play more sng's since i make money at those

Re: December Goals

I pwned my first month of being a MTT player by making 5FTs with 1 win.

-Make 3 final tables
-Do better in the Party non-super $150s
-Win a PS tourny

Re: December Goals

My November Goals:

1. Cash in at least 5 satellites.

Haven't played as many of these as I thought I would. I've cashed in 3, maybe I'll play a few more in the next few days....

2. Cash in at least 1 100+ buy-in tournament.

Only played two of these, and scrubbed out of both early. I'm going to play a Super tonight or tomorrow, so maybe I'll get lucky.

3. Final table at least 2 small stakes tournaments.

One down, one 11th place (not counting 180-person SnG's, got three FT's there). 3rd in chips with 20 to go in a $20 PL as we speak, so maybe I'll be checking this one off soon.

December Goals:

1) Play 75 180-person SnG's (this was going to be 100, but then I remembered Christmas and such) at 200% ROI.

2) Cash in 5 satellites.

3) Play 25 $20+ MTT's.

4) Move up to $200 6-Max.

5) Play 100 $50 Heads up games.

Tried to make these a little results-oriented in honor of Pfk.

Re: December Goals

Win 1,000,000,000,000 playing poker.

Actually:
Study for finals, and not play so much poker.
Play more NL400 than tournament poker.
Play only big tournaments, and/or ones with better structures.
Don't lose 2 consecutive tournaments, reraising all in with 72 (happened in November.)

Nice goals.

1)Win a seat to PCA
2)Win a seat to PCA
3)Don't go broke

Re: December Goals

I didn't make November goals and that month turned out GREAT. Therefor, December is about to suck for me.

1) Resteal more.
2) Value bet more rivers.
3) Make 2 final tables (I don't play enough MTTs to expect more)
4) Permanantly move up to 6 tabling SNGs. Rakeback is goot.
5) Explain to my parents: "With my bankroll, and the limits that i play at, it is nearly impossible for me to go broke, so don't worry about my money situation. I love you."
6) Make >$5k

11-28-2005 07:47 PM

Re: December Goals

I failed miserably at my november goals, hopefully this month goes better.

-Build a bigger bankroll.
-Play more sngs.
-Make some final tables.
-Don't let poker take up too much time.
-Get good grades in school.

11-28-2005 08:08 PM

Re: December Goals

Stop finishing second.

After 4+ hours of poker there really is nothing worse.

11-28-2005 08:15 PM

Re: December Goals

I sucked at my November goals... way to much time away from the tables to have a chance. I came close on 2 out of 3 but there's no point in setting them if you're not going to hit them.

December Goals:

1) Put in at least 40 hours a week (2 should be easy if I do this)
2) 13k profit for the month
3) Win a multi-table (target is the 45k Pstars)
4) PCA seat

what stakes/games are you playing? 13k a month profit is pretty damn hard to get.

Lofty goals, I am going to 10-table SNGs this month and get my bankroll back to 4K, maybe 5K, also a PCA seat if I get a few chances to go for it.

Edit: We'll add 2 final tables as a goal too, even though I wont be MTT'ing a ton. Hopefully a top 20 in the Party $40K.

win one
bang my neighbors wife.

--for november, i didn't see the post for goals but alas

i made 4 fts, but i crapped out in them, with finishes of 4 9 T T (lil bad luck, lil over aggression)

and finished 21st in the pp 40k last night.....thought it was gonna make it 5 fts for the month which i would have been pretty proud of despite poor placings.

Re: December Goals

My November goals as a poor college student playing his first month of micro MTTs were: Empty my roll and start again with $20 bucks, make 2 FT's, and win one. Well, I didn't foresee two 12 page papers ravaging my month and only played about 20 MTTs, but I turned my 20 into a sweet 100, and made 3 FT's (with one 11th). This month I'd like to bring the roll up to $250 (oh the sky is the limit), make 4 FT's, win one, and for the love of God do not forget to study for finals.

Re: December Goals

yeah, #1 is the same for me... don't play much poker, do well in school
I guess the only other goal is don't lose money when I do play?

Re: December Goals

Im a student just getting back into the swing of things, so my goals suck.

1.) Re-deposit $200 into a certain poker room
2.) Grow that to atleast $400, mainly through SNG's.
3.) 2 MTT final tables, winning one. (wont be playing many)
4.) Get in > 20 hours a week but < 30 hours. (due to school)
5.) Have success at the .25/.50 and .50/1.00 LO8 games.
6.) Not have 1 session of tilt ... make smart decisions concerning that

I think you should increase #1 and #2, if you are seriously going to play 20-30 hours a week you should be able to go much more than $200 profit in a month, maybe make that $600-$800 and really shoot high. I started again after draining account with $200 and in 4 hours of 10 tabling $10 SNGs am up to $360 already, you should be able to do much more in a month. Good luck!

Fine

Make 1 grand

Play five 180-manners a day. That comes out to 155, yes, 155 SNG's. So far I am 0-3.

I've been wondering this for awhile. For people who play a ton of MTT's, do you just do the same ones, have a steady schedule every week or do you just look for whatever good games are running that day and wing it?

Also, I don't feel like looking so could you point me to this Exitonly spreadsheet?

My goal would be to turn some sort of profit and keep solid records of my MTT play [and maybe get in 400 STT]

55 hours a week for poker? Thats a little much, and you're brain will reach critical mass which will result in burn out quickly. Setting time restraints on time you HAVE to play poker will undoubtedly lead you to getting very sick of it as well as being very -EV, when you dont want to play you aren't getting the best of it. I think the only time setting time that you MUST play is good is when you are going it for a job and treating it like work, not a hobby, that is a BIG distinction.

Yeah maybe that is a bit aggressive. I'm without job until after March and I haven't really figured out what is a healthy amount of time to do this.. Any suggestions would be cool on what others have found to be a sane amount of time.

Thanks!

Re: December Goals

1) get a seat to PCA (I've already booked a 10K seat to a tourney of my choice, but that doesn't really count - the wife doesn't want to go to Jersey or LA).
2) Final Table a tourney with a buyin of $200+.
3) Avoid the sessions at the cash games where I drop multiple buyins, negating days worth of effort.
4) Finish Christmas shopping prior to Christmas.

I don't ask for much of myself.

Re: December Goals

Didnt have november goals.

1.) Finish up finals strong (2 15+ page papers down, 2 to go on top of finals)
2.) 3 FTs
3.) Become more aware of table selection in limit cash games. (playing in a 10/20 rock fest lo8 can kill you when you arent paying attention.)
4.) Sat into sunday PS tournament 3 times.
5.) Cash in the ps sunday 200+15 at least once. (only played it once, bubbler. Got to start somewhere.)
6.) No more sessions of drunk 15/30, merely convincing myself that "the lineup looks good, and Im not that drunk" ([censored])
7.) Get the bankroll back up into 5 figures.
8.) Resteal more.
9.) Learn to value bet better.
10.) Play well in vegas (1st trip dec. 19th.)
