60 Minutes features on online gambling tonight 7PM EST...

"If online gambling is illegal in the US, then why are thousands of people playing every day?" (or something along those lines)

Answer: The legality is largely ambiguous. Also, big brother doesn't yet have the ability to monitor my actions 24 hours a day. No real need to watch anymore

The more "illegal" it is the more people are gonna be attracted to it. I hope it stays "illegal".

This is incorrect, more people will play if it's legal.

Also the headline is why are millions of people playing everyday.

Party or Pokerroom, maybe Stars but doubt it, even slimmer UB. No other sites have a chance IMO

The report is on gambling, not just poker!

They have covered this very neutrally so far and seem to actually been more on the side with the gambling sites.

Still, the bit with giving the kid his dad's credit card and then seeming somewhat shocked that he was able to play was silly.

Re: 60 Minutes features on online gambling tonight 7PM EST...

I think this is actually way in favor of gambling legalization in the US. Way in favor. They made Kyle sound retarded saying that DOJ can't regualte other countries, then they flashed right over to the other guy sounding brilliant saying that people are going to gamble no matter what so the US might as well regulate and tax it.

To note, the kind finally got accepted at Golden Palace, but he'll have to send ID to cashout.

The report seemed to be in favor of regulation (or I should say gave more time to people who were in favor of regulation). All in all, not too bad.

Anyone think Party Poker is sending the 60 Minutes office a HUGE Thank You basket?

You can't pay for that kind of advertisement, especially in the US. Then, they spell out that don't go to .net, go to .com. I bet Mr Dickshit has a stiffy right about now.

I think it is better that it is illegal personally.

I'm pretty sure when they showed the part with the Hong Kong banner and the Chinese lettering, that the site was Bet365...and the blackjack shot was a site with Boss Media software...

Now that I think about it, the blackjack was more than likely Playtech...

I also think this segment brings up an interesting topic for debate...namely why someone would be paying taxes on an activity that our country deems illegal? Wouldn't paying taxes essentially incriminate those that are playing?

BTW, I pay taxes on my winnings...always have.

Im like you Homer...its sorta eerie that I know this....

The lady was playing devil's advocate, and allowing the other guy an easy rebuttal. Easy rebuttal acrually helping the legalization arguement.

If the government leagalized it they would make so much money. Not only would 11 billion dollars remain in the the US economy helping create jobs and increase annual income, but it would also increase government taxes. They would be easier to track, plus the government would be able to make gambling taxes disproportionantly high on the sites.

This was great! Newbies learned that:

-Party is the #1 most popular site. Guess that's probably a good place to go then!
-Whenever I see a '.net' ad, they really mean I should go to .com for real gambling!
-If I'm an underage minor, Golden Palace is an excellent place to get to play!
-12 Million Americans are playing, and they haven't complained - maybe this 'internet gambling' isn't so shady after all!

It was good report. I have always thought 60min does some of the best reporting out there. That congressman they interviewed is a nut. He has this pro-U.S. idealogy. "If we think its wrong, we wont allow our citizens to do it." Now that wasn't the exact word for word, but that was the meaning behind it.

I doubt he could pass a bill to allow all banks to not allow EFT's from international (all) gambling sites. That is govt somewhat trying to strip your rights by saying only certain EFT's are allowed to your bank account.

I did like how they pointed out the UK has all this legal under the law, and they generate their own taxes from these companies and they are traded publicly on the stock exchange.

I mostly saw Party and Paradise. Never saw Stars or UB. Saw plenty of other sites for the non poker games.
