50NL: Trips on scary board

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (9 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx

UTG+1 ($41.45)

Preflop: Hero is MP3 with 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. SB posts a blind of $0.25.
3 folds, Hero calls $0.50, CO raises to $2, 1 fold, SB (poster) calls $1.75, 1 fold, Hero calls $1.50.

Flop: ($6.50) 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (4 players)

River: ($23.60) 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (4 players)
SB bets $15, Hero folds.

Final Pot: $38.60
Main Pot: $23.60, won by SB.
Pot 2: $15, between UTG+1, CO and SB. > Pot won by SB ($15).

Results in white below:
SB has Kc Jd (two pair, kings and jacks).
UTG+1 doesn't show.
CO has Ac Ah (one pair, aces).
Outcome: SB wins $38.60.

The river bet really confused me. I would have called $5... but $15 seems a little high for me to call. I had a good hand but there was just too much that beat me to call that bet. Any thoughts?

I assume CO went allin on the flop there... might consider betting his stack on this flop, or betting half of it so you can 3bet if you want to.

As for the rest of the hand I bet this turn about 1/2-2/3 and try to get to showdown unimproved. As played this is very easy river call

I think your play is seriously weak. I think you see KJ way more often then you see KK, JJ here.

I think he's much more afraid of the straight/flush-possibilities here, but still yes this is weak

WTF never fold this. Pay him off everytime if he has it.

Move on and don't worry about it.

Agreed. How would you have played top two pair in his situation?

I seriously thought that he had a flush. The last bunch of hands he had been playing dumb suited cards and calling bets to try and catch. I figured that calling was a bad move, but I was obviously not correct in folding.

You can't just give him credit for a flush just because it's 3 to a flush out there... And then when he bets nearly over half the pot you're getting awesome odds to call with even worse hands than sets here.

Don't outthink yourself. Price is too good to fold a set here.

Especially when you check the turn.

Morrek is correct. Bet about $10 or $15 on the turn & see what happens. After you check the turn, you put yourself in a guessing game on the river. Is he betting because he's got something or because you invited him to take the pot from you.

You represented absolutely nothing. SB would be correct to block/value bet a wide range of hands on the end, which is exactly what he did. Saying that $15 just seems like too much to call sounds like scared poker.

I think one of my worst traits is giving people too much credit.

Lol, it's ok to have a fear of monsters under the bed, but that shouldn't stop you from calling down. Monsters under the bed is what prevents you from reraising.

I know that I should have bet on the turn but I got gunshy.

In his situation I probably would have done the same thing with how I acted on the turn.

Re: 50NL: Trips on scary board

Raise the turn 12-15 like everyone said and check behind the river. You can't just assume he's on a flush draw because of his call. He is just another donk who slowplays two pair on the flop. You need to call river I am sure you will see a weaker king more times than the flush.

Re: 50NL: Trips on scary board

I think I would have reraised the flop here. That's where the weakness begins. What hands does villain have at this point that beat us...make a raise that makes it incorrect for him to draw to the flush. When that scare card comes and he has nothing, you won't see that river bet since he'll think YOU have the flush draw.

You're not allowed to raise your own bet.

I'd raise 99 preflop two off the button.
