Take the time to do this please

[/ QUOTE ]Dear XXXX,

Thank you for contacting us.

We thank you for bringing to our attention the use of profanity in the chat box.

Having checked the hand history we confirm that this player did use profanity at the table. The appropriate action has now been taken and his chat facility has been blocked.

Please note, we do not maintain any details of our play money tables if you are playing at a play money table please call us immediately so that we can monitor the table and take the appropriate action or alternatively send us a screen shot as follows:

1. Press the print screen key on your keyboard. This captures the image immediately.

2. Open a new Word document and paste this image by ?
a) Pressing "Ctrl" key and "V" key on your keyboard at the same time.
OR
b) Right click on the Word document and select the option "Paste"

3.) Attach this document to your email and send to info@PartyPoker.com

Also note, when playing at the tables you can block a player chat from view in the chat box by simply right clicking on the players name at the table and selecting 'disable chat'. Obviously this is an interim measure prior to our intervention.

We do not tolerate the use of profanity at our tables and treat it as a serious offence and once again thank you for helping us to maintain a positive atmosphere at our tables.

Thank you for choosing us as your online gaming site!

As you can see, this occured right after hand #3050273279.

This guy drove a HUGE fish away from my 10/20 table with chat like this, then shortly after causing the fish to leave he also left. Obviously this kind of thing sucks for us so please take the time to email party (or whatever poker site) about it so they can block these guys' chats. I got this reply within an hour and obviously my email took less than 5 minutes to write.

I'm a huge nit so I always do this.

Re: Take the time to do this please

I was doing this semi-frequently but now it's gotten so out of hand and I'm usually multi-tabling so I just don't bother for the most part.

But I do worry about driving the fish away.
We want the game to be universally accepted. That means we want the 80-year-old granny from the Partypoker commercial to feel comfortable playing at party.
We're all used to the idiotic cussing-tirades that some of the losers go on. But some of the new players aren't familiar with this and it can be a REAL turn-off for them.

I'm not a prude. I don't really care personally because it's not going to effect me.
But I care ABOUT the prudes who might be interested in giving me their money but who are so turned-off by the experience that they don't play as much.

Acting like it's ALWAYS a bunch of 20-something drunk guys sitting around the table...and boys-will-be-boys so it's all okay...is the WRONG attitude.

We want it to be fun for as many people as possible.
to that end...I agree with reporting these types of idiots and having their chat blocked.

(the counter-argument is that the idiots themselves are often-times awful players...and when they get their chat blocked they might get frustrated and not play as much)

Re: Take the time to do this please

I began doing this recently after reading something that was written by Dr. Al I believe.

At first I felt like a tool, but all the sites seem to have quick response in claiming that they have taken action. Maybe they do take it seriously. Anyway, nothing like having one jackass ruin a whole table for you during prime time.

I used to report people, but once they started asking for screen shots, I stopped. I don't want them to question why my table is non-standard or why I have numbers all over the screen.

You don't have to send them a screenshot unless you're reporting abuse that occured on a play money table

Just include relevant hand history numbers.

I agree with your thoughts Bob.

I am also not a prude, I don't really care if people are using profanities. In fact I have never reported anyone who just used profanities. My only complaint is the abuse of another player. I think that using "offensive language" is borderline behavior at worst. But when someone is verbally abusing someone else, that is just wrong and that player should not be allowed to chat.

Yeah but if he gets to keep his chat, how many awful players is he going to scare away from party poker? Maybe none, maybe more than one. And it isn't 100% sure that he'll quit playing just because his chat has been turned off.

BTW it doesn't bother me when someone else says things like this to me. I am used to it, it's no problem. I take more offense to it when they say these things to really bad players.

Re: Take the time to do this please

First off- I hear what everyone says about driving the fish away. But over time I have stopped worrying about this for a couple reasons:

-There are so many frigging fish online, they are lined up to fill the seat if one in a hundred of the berated players gets pissed off. It's not like we're in the "big game" and it's 8 of us awesome pros and 1 or 2 billionaire whales who could get offended and never come back and drop Bentleys or whatever.

-Most people don't really care what is being said. The "fish" getting berated is half the time a regular (who isn't going anywhere), or has their chat off, or they just don't care about getting insulted.

-Some people get turned on by the insults. I see this a lot. I see guys all the time who will totally get into huge arguments and insult battles, either as the aggressor or as the defender, and these guys are actually gigantic fish. The jabbing seems to be part of the experience of online poker. As a parallel, competitive basketball is filled with trash talk, insults, guys ragging on each other, even guys on the same team! Just like with poker, there are friendly basketball games and then there are very aggressive, trash talking games. I really don't think people are going to argue that the trash talking that happens from time to time is a major factor in turning people off from basketball. The sport is frigging huge on a global scale.

Just my thoughts. Like Microbob I find that multitabling mostly precludes me from getting overly interested or involved in the proceedings at any one table.

Maybe at $1/$2, but at $10/$20 this is simply not the case.

I'll let others elaborate.

Re: Take the time to do this please

Okay apparently I should have been more clear in my original post.

The issue here is not the profanity, it is the verbal abuse of the other player. I honestly don't care one way or another about the profanity, but when someone is just beating up on a bad player verbally I take offense.

Re: Take the time to do this please

Can you just clarify the tone of your post? I swear it might imply that I am a 1/2 player while you're a high and mighty 10/20 player with some sort of deeper understanding into this issue.

Well maybe I can elaborate then. I've played 10/20 or higher for over a year. Currently I 8-table 10/20 when not playing 20/40 and 30/60. There are more fish than I can shake a frigging stick at. I have roughly zero fear attached to the prospect of any fish getting scared away, especially at a level like 10/20, which is big boy money for big boy egos. I have bigger things to worry about- like making wads and wads of cash.

It's in their standard response email to complaints about profanity.

The email may have been answered by a bot. Or an Indian (as in from India) who knows nothing about poker.

This simply isn't true. There are fish at those limits, but not a neverending, limitless supply. You have to practice good table selection, and sometimes, when 1 or 2 particular fish leave a table, yo uneed to leave that table too because it dries up. Your post indicating that the games are always just full of fish, and you can open any 8 tables and they are fine to play on.....

This is exactly what I meant.

And I wasn't trying to be insulting or insinuate that you played 1/2. I didn't know what limit you played, but my point was simply "Whatever limit you play, at higher limits there are less fish and at lower limits there are more fish. No matter what limit you are playing, it is helpful for fish not to be scared away from a table because that means you get to spend more time playing poker and less time finding good tables."

Re: Take the time to do this please

I've only done this once and or twice and I think the time I did it was when someone started calling someone a JEW as if it were an ethnic slur. I don't care who the guy is at that point, I think when you start saying stuff like that you deserve to get kicked off a site even if you are a contributer.

Beavis68 11-18-2005 03:53 PM

Re: Take the time to do this please

I did it one time when this guy followed me to a new table and started cussing at me.

Unfortunately the site checked the logs of the other table we were playing on, and we both got our chat suspended.

I can't wait for the day I can report Phil Hellmuth.
