A quote from El Diablo. Can someone explain?
[ QUOTE ]
Not surprisingly, Mason, your description of how the hand will be played reminds me of how limit players play NL - typically far worse than even relatively inexperienced low-limit NL players. [/ QUOTE ] What sort of bad plays do successful limit players make that a standard NL noob wouldn't? |
Re: A quote from El Diablo. Can someone explain?
They don't control the pot size. And they don't give enough value to position. So they check/raise hands that shouldn't be check/raised and stuff like that.

Re: A quote from El Diablo. Can someone explain?
they call raises oop with scs and c/r pfr with top pair...
they know how to win the least and lose the most |
Re: A quote from El Diablo. Can someone explain?

overvalue hands [/ QUOTE ] The worst mistake limit players make by far is overvaluing all top-pair/one-pair type hands. |

(Basically marginal hands shouldn't be check/raised because you show that you are strong and therefore get worse hands to instamuck, but better hands won't usually fold so you are just going to lose the most, win the least. Yuck!) |
Re: A quote from El Diablo. Can someone explain?
i only have 20 check-raises in like 6k hands

Re: A quote from El Diablo. Can someone explain?
Implied odds is a really, really big deal in NL. Thus taking away implied odds by using big bet strategy (v. stack size) is a vital concept. The concept of memory and recalling how you played this situation before can confuse a lot of good players. Because the basic concept that you can be playing for your entire stack at any time makes the value of holdings differ and gives more advantage to position.
The very foundations on which the two games are based changes. In NL AA always wants to get it's money in preflop, HU. In Limit the two starting cards most sensitive to the number of players seeing the flop are AK. In Limit you want to raise preflop with AK to limit the number of players seeing the flop whereas in NL it would be the opposite. This is a drawing hand and you want to encourage a multiway pot. |

The post involves the value of the starting hand AQs v. JJ. The theory involved in valuing a starting hand should be required reading. Please read the entire post and come to your own conclusion.

Re: A quote from El Diablo. Can someone explain?
They relinquish control of pot odds to their opponents.
They give out big implied odds to opponents. They don't re-evaluate their holdings and opponents holdings in the face of new information as the hand progresses. They tilt a lot. They are basically sitting ducks for experienced opponents. |
Re: A quote from El Diablo. Can someone explain?
With your flop aggression, I'm not surprised. I'd love to see some hands that are emblematic of how you play with such successful aggression on the flop.
