Guess my hand please

What does my hand look like?
I have 2.5k, villain has about 1700.
I raise UTG villain calls on button
Flop is Q83 all diamonds, I pot it, he calls.
Turn is 8, i check call half pot.
River is a 4th diamond, I move in.

My first orbit at the table.

33 or laon A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]
my guess, you actually had JTo, and he called wtih QJ no diamond.

Re: Guess my hand please

It definitely doesn't look like a flush unless you flopped the nut flush. I just don't see many people calling half-pot bets with draws out of position and very small implied odds (if you hit it would be so transparent)
I would guess you're probably full and hoping that this moron can't fold the A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

I definitely understand your point, but it is a little bit amusing that you say that he doesn't have a flush here because it would be so obvious that he had a flush in this circumstance. So it would be so obvious that he has it, so he doesn't have it. So it actually is not obvious that he has it. So maybe he does have it.

To me it looks like A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]x (potentially AQ), full house, or just completely nothing.

I know-I was thinking this also. After a while the whole "he wouldn't do this because he has to know I wouldn't pay him off so he must have nothing so I'll pay him off" element of poker is just guessing. But I almost always guess that my opponents are not smart enough or don't give me enough credit to assume that I'll make thin calls in obvious non-payoff spots so I tend to pay off here.

are you getting at that only a full house calls here and the river push is a good move with any two cards?

Any boat and the K or A of diamonds. This is a perfect board to bluff on because the 4 diamonds out just ruin most hands-not even trips is good enough to call with IMO

A better question is what hands can I have taken such a weird line with on the flop and turn? I mean, pretty much any hand I can play like this on the flop and turn will call the river push. But that's because I probably only play nut flush and set/FH like this.

I agree with this, i dont think calling without a boat Ad, or Kd is profitable here.

Re: Guess my hand please

You got called by the Kd or Jd and lost, bad beat. You had AK no diamond.

if i knew u, def a low diamond. if i had that eight, I'd consider it.

against other players, muck Jd and lower.

i assume it was a low/insignificant diamond? also, is this a 10/20 game against a known opponent, or lower? that being said, i think you hope to get called by the ace of diamonds that youre putting him on, and i doubt you raised UTG with 33... so maybe you have QQ!?!?!?

thabadguy 11-15-2005 02:56 PM

Re: Guess my hand please

this is 10/20
I dont think i can put him on the lone Ad here, Ad prolly raises flop, and checks behind on turn, im very capable of a huge turn checkraise with nothing.

SunOfBeach 11-15-2005 03:01 PM

Re: Guess my hand please

that being said (you put him w/o the Ad), i put you on bluffing basically any two here being +EV, since i dont think he calls without Ad or a boat. so, my first guess was 'nuts', and my current guess is 'nothing/doesnt matter'... kind of the same thing in a zero/infinity sense...

edit: by 'nothing' here, im guessing AQ (no diamond)?

I think this can be a brilliant play with red jacks. But my understanding is that TBG would not make this move with red jacks. For him, it seems this move is going to be nuts/air.

Re: Guess my hand please

I'm not familiar with tbg's game, so I probably shouldn't even be participating here. I'm just projecting the way I'd play this hand. Having said that, I wouldn't be shocked if the villain has KdQ or somesuch.

I haven't read any of the responses, but it looks to me like you are trying to get a call on the river from the nut flush, so you have that beat.

Oh, I wasn't saying that your answer was bad or anything. I was just kinda adding some more of my thoughts given his previous posts. If you would really play red jacks like this then I never want to sit at your table. I think it's a great line for red jacks.

imo the A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] is just as good as KQo vs your river push here. If i call w/ one i call w/ the other.

This is why this line is absolutely brilliant with red jacks. You can get some people to lay down A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] and other people to call with KQo!
