You can pick up Stone Brewery Ales at my grocery store (Vons).
I am drinking an IPA right now from them its great.

close call between Alaskan Amber and Sam's Octoberfest, but both of these are often not avaible in many stores

Goose Island "Demolition" (seasonal, a Belgian ale, might be regional to Chicago)

Newcastle Brown Ale

Sam Smith's Nut Brown Ale (Taddy Porter is nice too, and technically an ale...these may not be available at your grocery store.)

(Newcastle is always available at my local grocery store, and cheaper than the other two.)

Because its so much more widely distributed than many other beers. We just got Bridgeport here a couple weeks ago, in the grocery stores at least.

My "other" vote was for Guinness.

You are obviously from the northwest but waht is available in grocery stores varies widely.

In Columbus Ohio there was never anything better than guinness available in a grocery store. Top 3 were probably guinness corona and newcastle, but I never did my beer shopping at the grocery store for that reason.

In Vegas the best selection I've seen outside Lee's is maybe Fat Tire, Pyramid Curveball and Pyramid Hefeweizen.

In Seattle the standard obviosuly goes way way up. Sunshine wheat, Rogue Dead Guy Ale, The new belgium trippel perhaps.

Most of that stuff we dont have. We do get though, a lot of local micro's, which is awesoem. Sam Adams Cherry Wheat, Guiness, and Nut Brown, are probably my 3 top non-micro's that I can reasonably expect to get at any grocery store.

You know New Belgium isn't a Seattle brewey, right? Those should be available in most states west of the Mississippi.

I voted "other" for Samuel Smith Nut Brown Ale, but I've really been digging Red Hook IPA lately. Also, someone mentioned that Porters are Ales? I'm pretty sure that while they are similar, you definitely can't say they are the same. If they were, I would add Anchor Porter to this list.

went with esb(I'm assuming that this is fuller's esb, which is a great beer), Sierra Nevada, and other. FOr the other, its really a toss up between Tetley's and Boddington's. BOth are favorites of mine

My wife bought something called Old Rasputin something or other. The label had an awesome picture of Rasputin. Seemed worth drinking no matter how it tasted.

All beer is either a lager or an ale. The difference is in the way it is brewed, not the taste, color, etc. Pilsner Urquell is (surprise!) a pilsner, which is a kind of lager.

Pretty much everything else being discussed here (including stout, porter, Belgians, etc.) are ales.

Neither is Rogue. I do know it wasn't available in ohio anywhere, and isn't available here in the grocery store (but is avaialble at Lee's Discount Liquor)

I could have listed portland as a city I lived in but the availability is essentially the same and I was underage the whole time I lived there.
