Runner Runner Question

I am playing 100max nl in Windsor. Sitting on about $250. I have 8s7s in SB, UTG(just sat down) raises to 12 preflop and it is called by 2 players including me.

Flop-

2s 4s 8d

i check knowing that this could not have hit the raisers hand and hoping he will bet out. He does, he makes it $25 its to me and i raise to $75. He goes all in for a total of 100, 25 more to me i call it. He has Ad 10d. he hits runner runner for the flush. So im like wtf? there were like 3 other people saying it was a good play on his part. he says he is good if i only had 4 to the flush, why doesnt a set slow play enter his mind? How can this call be justified? not only by one player but by 3 others?

I hope you immediately bought back in and took all their money.

If not, I know a guy in the B&M forum who will soon be paying you a visit to deliver a kick in the nuts.

Mr. Runner-runner has too much money and too few chromosomes, and you're lucky enough to be playing poker with him. There's nothing to complain about here.

Re: Runner Runner Question

He didnt take my whole stack, he took a little less than half. So yeah i stayed in for about 5 hours and he eventually left with like $25. After the hand against me he called most of his stack away to me. Two of the guys that said his call was a good call busted out in an hour sadly it wasnt me taking their money. I left with $530.

Why are you complaining? The reason you made $430 is because these guys made plays like this. Which way do you want it?

I think tf is that you called a preflop raise out of position with a suited connector against a preflop raiser who raised 12% of his stack from UTG. If he just sat down, then you should give him credit for having somekind of a decent hand if he raises from UTG. I fold this preflop everyday and twice on Sundays. Even though you are deep stacked, the primary aggressor (UTG) has position on you and isn't deep enough to give you really good implied odds, anyway.

Once you see the flop, then bet the pot immediately and try to take it down. Your position is terrible. So, when someone behind you comes over the top, you need to make a read based on who it is and either call, fold, or push. If UTG pushes over your lead, then give him credit for an overpair. Given the size of the pot, it's probably right to call, but you won't be ahead if villain has one of your flush outs. For example,

Holdem Hi: 990 enumerated boards containing 4s 2s 8d
cards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EV
8s 7s 448 45.25 542 54.75 0 0.00 0.453
Js Jc 542 54.75 448 45.25 0 0.00 0.547

If villain has no spades, then your better, but not by much.

Holdem Hi: 990 enumerated boards containing 4s 2s 8d
cards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EV
8s 7s 502 50.71 488 49.29 0 0.00 0.507
Jc Jh 488 49.29 502 50.71 0 0.00 0.493

So, I think you should have folded preflop. You should have bet the flop. And, as it turned out, you got all your money in with the best of it so you got all the Sklansky bucks anyway. nh

Holdem Hi: 990 enumerated boards containing 4s 2s 8d
cards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EV
8s 7s 823 83.13 167 16.87 0 0.00 0.831
Ad Td 167 16.87 823 83.13 0 0.00 0.169

Im not complaining. Re read...I asked how it was possible for the call to be justified. Is there some crazy book that says its ok to put your stack on the line with 2 overs?

Youre right, it was a sucker table, i agree. I was just wondering if anyone else felt like there was any reason at all to make the kind of play he did.

1- Villain probably is really, really bad, and you can't put him on a hand, much less put him on a thought.

2- Otherwise, he puts you on a semi-bluff or weak hand and thinks he can fold you out with a bigger semi-bluff himself ("I still have two over cards if I get called...").

Re: Runner Runner Question

only reason is that he puts you on a lone flush draw instead of draw + pair.
