Top set

$350/$750K on Party. Blinds 75/150. I have about T4K, opponents between T1.5K-T3K. UTG limps, I limp in 3rd position with TT, SB completes. Flop comes T64,r. All 3 players check to me. What should I do?

looks like a safe time to check behind, doesnt appear that they can improve to beat you on the next card, but they could definitely make an alright 2nd best hand (TPGK, lower set) or even a draw that they'll donate chips with. So i cheeck behind here, and bet/raise the turn.

A victory lap.

*rimshot*

Check the flop, bet the turn if checked to you. This is definitely a slow-playable hand.

On this flop I check and hope someone picks up a hand (worse than mine of course) on the turn. I think this is a pretty standard slowplay situation.

I'd throw out a 200-250 bet about 90% and check about 10% ...

I don't like sloplayin with position because theres a chance the bb or sb or UTG especially may be sloplaying 2 pair/overpair. Try to build a nice pot.

I like this line, but it's dependent (isn't it always?) on your read of the limpers. Is anyone else in the hand in love with the check-raise? You could throw out a 1/3rd pot probe to try and induce more action from one other player.

I like to raise preflop, but still okay. I bet like 1/3 pot and take it from there.

So? If they are, you'll get their money in on the turn, and if they're not, then they have a chance to catch up to you a little bit. I really dont think JJ+ is checking/calling PF, and definitely not checking around on this flop. So you dont have to worry about someone spiking a bigger set, maybe some straigth draw coming is the only thing that could be bad for you.

Re: Top set

at this blind level i would raise preflop with this all the time. after the utg limp there is already t425 in the pot, which is yummy.

having got to the flop, i'm checking this through most of the time. very safe, let someone hit an ace or a king and catch up a bit.

Re: Top set

I would bet 350. But I would bet 350 with air here a lot of the time, so I think I need to do it as a cover play.

I assume you're worried about a limp reraise from UTG? I think I would still go to T500 here.

Re: Top set

I bet 300 on the flop and took the pot. I thought it would look like a weak attempt to steal the pot in last position. I would probably make some stab at the pot with this flop and action no matter what I had. I am more used to lower buyin where people would call half pot with overcards and I was trying to build the pot.

Problem is it was unlikely that anyone had a ten since I had two and there were not many possible draws. I probably should have checked and hoped for a broadway card.

Preflop I didn't want to raise because I have a difficult decision if UTG or one of 7 players yet to act decides to reraise.

By limping I have chances for a set or overpair. Plus I may get position in a 4-way pot, as occurred. If someone raises, I have the option to fold, call, or push.

It is kind of a matter of style and some people may prefer to raise here.

I bet every time just like I bet all the times before.

Re: Top set

If it was a raised pot or the blinds weren't in it, I would consider checking. But with both blinds in, there are quite a few cards that could make a straight for somebody. I'd bet 300-400 and hope it looks like a position bet/steal to someone.

Re: Top set

I bet because my hand is good.

And because when I have good hands, I want people to put money in the pot.

Its fun to get CR when you have top set.

Re: Top set

as a rule, I never slowplay more than 3 players b/c of obvious suckout reasons. In this situation where the tourney is still not too deep I'd probably bet it out right a little under half the pot to encourage action

Re: Top set

With 3 opps, i'm betting about 2/3rds of the pot, sometimes more (depending on my read of the players involved in the pot). Any less, or slow playing, esp in the early stages of a tournament, could give someone a chance to catch a big hand or a big draw and take all your chips.
