Anybody like Vince Van Patten?
I actually find his whole schtick quite funny. The cheesy hand names, the wired pairs, his little comments about when players hit a big hand or miss their draw, (Gus has Willie Nelson songs going off in his head, etc). I am probably alone, right?

Re: Anybody like Vince Van Patten?
Was VVP ever a fish in the big game? I'm curious what games he frequented and maybe someone has some stories or somethin ...

Re: Anybody like Vince Van Patten?
He's the favorite whipping boy of this board. I like Vince, he makes me laugh, he's funnier than Norman Chad who has the same predictable jokes, "ex-wife . . . ", "the prettiest card in the deck. . ."
Also, I was a big Eight Is Enough fan growing up, I liked his dad Dick Van Patten, its hard to dislike Van Patten. |
Re: Anybody like Vince Van Patten?
I enjoy making fun of Vince. I forget what WPT episode it was but he said something like
"he records himself talking at night then plays it backwards in his sleep" Mike said "Vince, what are you talking about Vince: "I don't know". |
Re: Anybody like Vince Van Patten?
I don't know why some knock him. I think he's very entertaining.

Re: Anybody like Vince Van Patten?
Yes....but just as a friend.

Re: Anybody like Vince Van Patten?
I like him.
Bingo Bango Bongo! |
Re: Anybody like Vince Van Patten?
I love some of his lines:
"He's got West Hollywood." (pocket queens). and when at the Bellagio tourney a player kept checking a guy's raise, Vince said, "He's hanging around like a bad relative at Thanksgiving." |

The thing that annoys me about Vince is that his comments are never funny. On the newest episodes he sometimes disagrees with Mike Sexton, which also annoys me. He just never seems to bring much to the table except hand names he makes up. Overall he is kind of worthless. Gabe Kaplan + Norman Chad = Ultimate Announcing Team I have to say after watching countless hours of poker you need 1 funny guy and 1 guy who actually knows poker. Vince is just not funny enough for me. |
Re: Anybody like Vince Van Patten?
I like Vince on the WPT telecasts also. I've never understood the negative reaction to him that some people have.

[/ QUOTE ] I don't think he's ever played in the big game, but, I'm pretty sure he plays high stakes though. I met him once and he told me about playing with Stu Ungar. It was really cool hearing about Stuey from someone that knew him. |
Re: Anybody like Vince Van Patten?
I think he rules. He reminds me of Jefferson from Married With Children.

Re: Anybody like Vince Van Patten?
The problem for me with the WPT is that they're always whispering, but at the same time way too excited. It just doesn't make sense.

Re: Anybody like Vince Van Patten?
I always cringe when he says "a wired pair".

Re: Anybody like Vince Van Patten?
I thought his comment during the most recent Ladies Night tournament about "Ms. Grinder" being as tight as a pair of Kirstie Alley's jeans was pretty funny.
