Where\'s the shame? Let\'s all get naked.

I have a five year old half-sister named Alexa. Her parents are not really religious at all, I don't think she's ever been to church or anything. Her parents are also generally pretty liberal about things, pretty informal, laid-back, etc.

Alexa has been potty-trained (obviously) and uses the big potty, although she needs a little help every now and then. Regardless, she never has any reservations about pulling down her pants in a large company, and always insists on keeping the door open when she does her business.

And come to think of it, why shouldn't she? It's no big deal. Hell, I'm pretty open about things and, were it not for the concern of consequences that might jeopardize my career or put me in jail, I'd have no problem walking around naked in public.

And I wouldn't be the first. We've all stumbled across the Discovery Channel and National Geographic media that depicts tribes in some far-off land where the people casually walk around naked because it's just no big deal to them. The ancient Greeks competed in the nude.

And then, of course, there's porn.

So where's this inherent so-called "shame" of nakedness that has supposedly affected us since Adam and Eve? As far as I see, shame is just something that gets created from parents (or other people) telling you that it's "bad" to be naked.

Hell, if they told you it's "bad" to eat zesty doritos from a young age like that, we'd probably feel the same kind of shame.

Re: Where\'s the shame? Let\'s all get naked.

Yeah, I think shame, for the most part, comes from conditioning. Back in the days when I was a Christian I would feel absolutely horrible about masturbating. Then when I unlocked my shackles I realized there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. Best decision I ever made, masturbation-wise.

I still feel horrible about masturbating, especially when i climax during an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond.

For me, it's not a matter of shame, but of privacy and intimacy.

Re: Where\'s the shame? Let\'s all get naked.

Watching your 5 year old sis. walk around naked isn't healthy for either of you. If you want to stare at underage breasts, go join a tribe in Africa or something.

EDIT: This is the opposite of "civilization".

Of course not! And since we're throwing out the idea of "civilization", we might as well go back to manually killing our food, and trying to discover the wheel.

Yes, I'm serious. Saying that clothing is stupid just b/c it's not part of our "animal instincts", is just silly. We're far more civilized now than we were back when our ancestors all had a sh*tload of backhair, and three-letter names like "Gor" and "Lok".

Regression is not usually the answer.

I was asking if you were serious about it being unhealthy for him to see his 5 year old sister in the nude. I really don't see that as being much of a problem, though as people get older and reach puberty that equation obviously changes.

Is it inappropriate for him to see his sister nude when she is 1,2, or 3? At what age does it become inappropriate.

Re: Where\'s the shame? Let\'s all get naked.

Well, the point of this thread was to illustrate that the association of shame with nakedness that Christians (and people of other Western religious persuasions) hold is poorly founded.

I wasn't trying to say that people shouldn't wear clothes, and I wonder how you reached such a conclusion. I assume it's because you have sexual problems, since a reasonable human being would not think that seeing a naked five year old is arousing or "unhealthy." Go back and tell me where I placed this in a sexual context.

To illustrate the OP's level of thinking, he recently posted in response to a post of mine in the politics forum regarding drug legalization in a thread he started, that "experienced" pot smokers were different than drunks and suffered no impairment of driving ability when stoned.

Please.

If you're going to argue, discuss the topic at hand. The point of these forums is to engage in intellectual "competition" of sorts; bringing up an idea, having it challenged, challenging that, and so forth. Hopefully someone learns something in the process, although I regret to say that intellectual exercise often takes a back seat to more immature goals.

We're not Harvard professors or nobel-prize-winning economists or MIT physicists here; we're just people with ideas communicating quickly and loosely on an internet message board. If you want to dig through the muck and find stupid things that someone else said at some point, have at it, but it's not very constuctive.

There is no need to use propaganda to drive an argument here. This is just a discussion about a particular topic, not a presidential election.

I don't know you tell me. You say that when she hits puberty it changes. So you obviously know what I'm getting at. Who knows where the line gets crossed. I'm not acting as if I didn't also see my sister naked at age 5. I'm just saying it's not "healthy". Of course, this doesn't necessarily mean that it is "unhealthy".

I'm just saying, there is nothing productive about this occurence. A grown man seeing his sister naked is either no big deal, or unhealthy (depending on the people in question). And because there is the chance that it is unhealthy, it's assumed that "normal" (conformed) American's will dress appropriately in front of their siblings in an effort to negate any possible taboo acts that may ensue.

God, I need to stick to the p*k*r forums! haha.

What is the big deal? The girl has to take a whiz every now and then and will occasionally just pull her pants down as a five year old is prone to do, and it's no big deal. I don't see why you're so hot on this subject.

And go back and re-read your title and original post.

SHE'S FIVE [censored] YEARS OLD, DUDE! (just turned five, actually)

She's a little claustrophobic, or whatever, and just feels uncomfortable in the room with the door closed. She'll grow out of it eventually. You think she deserves to be shot for this?

Clearly you intended this for the OP. He starts with "Nakedness rulz. Let's all get naked." And now somehow it's morphed into "Hey guys my half-sister is claustrophobic..."

WTF? He's flip-flopping like no other.

Is he concerned that his sis/2 is claustrophobic, that she walks around naked, or that he likes staring at her? I can't tell. I don't know how to help this fellow because he can't even identify the dilemma.

It was directed at you. You actually said his 5 year old sister should be shot for using the toilet with the door open because she doesn't feel completely comfortable doing it by herself at this point. Also, what makes you think he likes staring at her? In basically every one of your posts you've put words into his mouth.
