The new format with folders. Why?

The other way was better and the change unnecessary.

...and it's not close. I also don't like clicking on the thread title and having it take me to the most recent response instead of the original post.

I hope this is just a bad dream.

Hmmm...I checked out my preferences, and couldn't find anything. But I know I haven't changed anything recently.

Frustration mounts...

I also hate the search feature. Where you click on 'show all user posts'. click on a post then go back and gives u a error saying u are searching to fast.

What do the folders mean anyway. Is there an explanation of the changes that I have been to lazy to see.

yes, this is annoying.... old format clearly much better.

SA125 11-02-2005 01:42 AM

Bump. The changes aren\'t an improvement.

Go back to the old format. This is confusing and less user friendly. Barron, don't let your first imprint as mod be a bad one. Just go back to how it used to be. Much simpler.

Clicking on a thread title and being taken to the latest response is dumb. So is looking for open and closed folders. Simply seeing red responses as the ones you haven't seen yet was more than simple and fine.

I agree this new format licks but i don't think Barron had anything to do with it. Its used throughout 2+2.

I don't get what is different... If you view it in flat instead of threaded, everything is still the same... And if you're viewing still in threaded you are really missing out.

hey. i can do things involving the internet...unfortunately they involve downloading data for research, reading WSJ and FT, 2p2, and porn. anything else is useless lol.

also, i had nothing to do w/ the changes.

Yes.

If this makes you all stop using threadded, everybody wins.

hate it.

It just adds clutter and makes the forum less readable.

The only difference for me is that there's a column of seemingly meaningless folder icons to the left of the posts.

Re: The new format with folders. Why?

Well, it used to be that posts that I had not yet read in a given thread were blue in color. Now, there is no color differentiation. On the main page, I can see that there are (say) 10 new posts in a thread but when I go to that thread, the 10 new posts are not identified in any way. So, I don't bother with the thread anymore and just move on.

Maybe I am doing something wrong with my preferences setting or whatever...any suggestions?

Re: The new format with folders. Why?

Yes, click on the "flat" link up top-right. That's how almost everyone reads threads and it's mucccccch better/easier. There is a setting in your preferences to what to default to too.

The main thing that is different is that when you are viewing the bottom post of a thread, and then click refresh, it will take you to the very first post.

Re: The new format with folders. Why?

Thanks, Bk but even in flat mode, I can't tell what posts are new and what I have already read.

bicyclekick 11-02-2005 04:58 PM

Re: The new format with folders. Why?

in flat mode the new ones go to the bottom. It's not the same as threaded mode where they go in between. If there are new posts click the "Jump to first unread post." link at the top left part.
