Hand reading excersise
Thought this might be fun for a change. The first one to get all three hands right will be known as a great poker player. Assume a standard non-idiot player in all hands. Suits are not important and only one answer per hand please.
This should be the easiest one. Prima 0.25/0.50 Hold 'em (10 handed) Preflop: Hero is BB with A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img],K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. 1 fold, UTG+1 calls, UTG+2 raises, 6 folds, Hero 3-bets, UTG+2 caps Flop: (9.5 SB) K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img],9 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img],4 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero bets, UTG+2 calls Turn: (5.5 BB) 8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero bets, UTG+2 calls River: (7.5 BB) 8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero bets, UTG+2 calls Final pot: 9.5 BB A bit trickier perhaps. PokerStars 0.10/0.20 Hold'em (10 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx Preflop: Hero is Button with 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. 1 fold, UTG+1 calls, UTG+2 calls, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, 2 folds, Hero calls, SB completes, BB checks. Flop: (7 SB) 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (7 players) SB checks, BB checks, UTG+1 bets, UTG+2 folds, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, Hero raises, SB folds, BB folds, UTG+1 3-bets, MP1 folds, MP2 folds, Hero calls. Turn: (7.50 BB) 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players) UTG+1 bets, Hero raises, UTG+1 3-bets, Hero calls. River: (13.50 BB) T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players) UTG+1 bets, Hero raises, UTG+1 3-bets, Hero caps, UTG+1 calls. Final Pot: 21.50 BB In this hand there are several possible hands, but there is one factor (I think) that should lead to the correct answer. PokerStars 0.10/0.20 Hold'em (10 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx Preflop: Hero is CO with K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. 2 folds, UTG+2 calls, 1 fold, MP2 calls, 1 fold, Hero calls, 1 fold, SB completes, BB checks. Flop: (5 SB) T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (5 players) SB checks, BB checks, UTG+2 checks, MP2 checks, Hero bets, SB calls, BB calls, UTG+2 calls, MP2 calls. Turn: (5 BB) 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (5 players) SB bets, BB calls, UTG+2 calls, MP2 folds, Hero calls. River: (9 BB) Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (4 players) SB bets, BB folds, UTG+2 folds, Hero calls. Final Pot: 11 BB |

Re: Hand reading excersise
what about me? how many did i get right?
|
Re: Hand reading excersise
a: QQ
b: A9s (hearts) c: 22 |
Re: Hand reading excersise
Hand 1: QQ. Don't see any other hand he's capping with and then just calling down with a K high flop.
Hand 2: Difficult, but since he's so aggressive at the flop and even when a heart flush is possible, I'm guessing J9 of hearts. Hand 3: I'm thinking he either hits something on the turn, or he has a monster and doesn't want to knock people out (A checkraise on the flop or the turn would be perfect for protecting). However, with two clubs on the flop, I'm not really sure why someone would want to slowplay a set. So I'm leaning towards him hitting on the turn, not wanting to risk it getting checked around and fearing both a club and a heart flush. I think 66 or 6x, if I have to choose one, I go for 66. |
Re: Hand reading excersise
Hand 1: QQ
Hand 2: J9s Hand 3: QJ or T6 |
Re: Hand reading excersise
1. QQ
2. non-idiot i hope wouldn't limp J9 but that sounds right as well as a set of 77s. if i have to do with "non-idiot" then 77. idiot factor: J9. 3. 66 |
Re: Hand reading excersise
QQ, 77, 66
|
Re: Hand reading excersise
One more try
Hand 1: QQ Hand 2: JT hearts Hand 3: 66 |
Re: Hand reading excersise
QQ, AT, T6.
|
Re: Hand reading excersise
I think you got it. We know that QQ is right, and somebody guessed QQ, JT, 66 and got 2 out of 3. I don't know why nobody thought of the 77.
Edit: I still don't like the 66 from a reasonable player. |

I meant non-idiot as in he will not raise/reraise with nothing, but limping J9o isn't to smart either. Congratulations. |

Re: Hand reading excersise
1. KQ
2. 77 3. K6 |
Re: Hand reading excersise
grunching:
1: QQ/JJ 2: 77/A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]x[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], but almost certainly 77 3: J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] or something similar (why did you not raise pf?) |
Re: Hand reading excersise
*Grunch*
In order of liklyness I've asumed there pretty loose and passive.. 1, QQ/JJ/AKs(weak/fearing KK) 2, 77/flopped straight(J9 Etc)/TT(Very unlikly) 3, T6(very loose!)/66(Chaser)/K6(raised flop no?) Only want to mention 3possibles as theres loads to mention.. but kind of ruins the point of "Hand reading" turns into "Shot in the dark". |
Re: Hand reading excersise
1 - QQ/JJ, probably QQ
2 - Ax[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], JT/QT/QJ/maybe KT [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] all look possible here, as does 77 3 - no idea, if villian is a "standard non-idiot", then the only hand where the 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] could have helped him is 66, or an over-aggressively played Ax [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] |
Re: Hand reading excersise
First one is Queens.
Second hand is A9 of hearts. Third hand is T6. |
Re: Hand reading excersise
Nice post to have made by the way. It is good to have hand reading exercises to do. It is something that is not done enough by decent but inexperienced players at the table, but is vital in saving or winning those extra bets.

[/ QUOTE ] The reason that I posted these hands was to make a point on how easy it is to play a hand when you know which cards your opponent is holding. This is especially important to newbies like me to constantly think about your opponents hand as much as your own. |

hand 1: K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]
hand 2: 77 (close second: A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], and third TT) hand 3: T6s ([img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] or [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]) |
Re: Hand reading excersise
Hand 1: He's got "2nd pair", meaning TT, JJ, or QQ.
There is no way to know which of the three he has so I'll just say....QQ. Hand 2: Somehow I don't think he has the flush. This is .1/.2, so I'll say he's a TPTK nut, and holds AT. Hand 3: Hmmm, I'll say ThXh. Strange flop check then lead out on the turn... makes me think he has 2nd pair on the flop maybe and then bet out on the turn with his added flush draw? |
