My brother called me last night during the raid and told me. That was my favorite place to play also, I haven't been going much in the last month and a half, but I was there pretty much everyday in August. The only 2 places I played at were Ace Point and EV, now that they are both shut down, I have no clue where I'm going to play at. Guess I'll have to be forced to play online and the occasional Atlantic City or Foxwoods trip.

Yea there was, he was about middle of the pack as far as the best dealers went there. He also dealt at other spots before they were shut down.

If it's the guy I've seen saying he has no fingers is an exaggeration.

There's a Korean dude (I think Korean) who used to work at Wall Street who's missing his ring finger and middle finger on each hand. Really nice guy , but it was a little strange the first time I noticed it. I always wonder if it's a birth thing or if he had some overdue gambling debts...

What are these Poker rooms in NY of which you speak? I've never heard of any such thing. There can't possibly be any more, so I guess there won't ever be any more posts about these so called "clubs." Right?

More will open up, they usually do. I'm actually kinda nervous about going to play at my local B&M, just the thought of the cops taking all the chips in front of me scares me.

Same guy and he's basically missing all of his 2nd and 3rd knuckles. He just has the first segment on each finger. Does pretty well with them. Scary part is that there are dealers much worse then him with all of their fingers.

This was bound to happen. I went once for the Wednesday night tournament. The place had no security, had a bar, and was visible from the sidewalk. By this I mean, I walked out that night, crossed the street, and could see signage, the wait board, and players playing from the street.

That has nothing to do with why it was shutdown. It wasn't like cops saw people playing poker from across the street. The same way we find out about cardrooms the cops can just as easily. I'm sure there are cops who play at some of these cardrooms.

I really think they are beginning to shut down a lot of these places because of the money they confiscate, I mean what are they really doing with the money? The thing that seems fishy to me is it isn't illegal for people to play poker but it's illegal for an establishment to profit off people playing poker. With that said the players should be allowed to cash their chips out and what ever is left in the draw is the clubs profit and that's what shouldn't be allowed to be kept. Not allowing the players to cash out their chips is essentially stealing from the players because they are doing nothing illegal.

What has been done is some palces is use large lammers (big enough that they can't be easilyu pocketed). When someone is up a large amount they are able to cash out a porion of their chips and have this large lammer that marks how much they are "playing behind." Example: player buys into 10-20 for $500. Wins another $500 so he now has $1k on the table. He would be able to cash out $500, but would have a big lammer on the table so everyone knew he has anoteohr $500 in play that isn't on the table. I have seen this sytem work, and no I won't say where I saw it.

Thats just a small part of it. The main problem is that these places have gotten to be too high profile.

Years ago, pretty much only the people who were in the poker world knew about these clubs and they knew who to tell and who not to tell (sure the cops knew, but the clubs weren't a problem so they ignored them) Now everybody knows about these clubs. They are discussed openly. It used to be that some guy lost all his money playing poker and then got called into family court because he didn't pay his child support, wouldn't tell the judge that he lost all his money trying to play poker professionally at the little club on 1st St. he made up a story, because he knew that he shouldn't tell the judge about the poker room. Now these people go in and talk about it openly, because the clubs operate so openly, and the people coming to these clubs don't realize that these clubs are the underworld and you keep your mouth shut about it. Now some accountant goes to a poker room and somebody calls him a [censored] and threatens to beat him up and the accountant is down at the police station filing a harrassment complaint. The Police can't keep ignoring that.

Bingo. Rumor has it that B's game here near DC was shut down because some lame ass was stealing from the safe at work to go play. He got caught, of course, blabbed the whole thing and within a couple months the game was busted.

My brother was telling me there were a few guys there with over 700 in front of them, which really sucks. Imagine sitting at the table with 1000, 700 of which is profit, then next thing you know, without playing a hand you busted out.

The 1/2 games there had a good amount of action. There was probably about 5-6k on my table. I would not be surprised if there was >10K on the main table. 5 or 6 tables running I think.

Re: EV Gets raided last night....

So... there's definitely an increased crackdown right now... i was playing around mentally with a pretty lame theory that this is a pre-election "tough on crime" publicity stunt... hoping the busts would stop after November... but it doesn't make sense.... "MIKE BLOOMBERG: TOUGH ON CRIME. TOUGH ON POKER" is not really compelling and I don't think the general public sees card rooms as any kind of threat.... I wonder if the illegal card room scene will retreat back into the shadows as some are urging... or if it's simply more attractive as a business venture for someone to open a club, earn several hundred thousand during the club's life span (EV was open less than 6 months I believe), and walk away with a profit when it gets busted. Doing that one or more times may be more financially attractive than setting up a super-private venture that takes a long time to earn the same amount of money.

I too have seen this dealer. It was quite a sight. Word on the street has it that he lost his fingers due to massive gambling debt. He is known as the degenerate Korean shaper. Check it out.

played 10/20 with him at one of the clubs a couple of weeks ago. i was amazed at how adept he was at handling the chips and cards. he was totally on tilt and great for the table. i made a huge error by trying to run a total bluff on him by c/r the turn, leading the river, and finally folding to his river raise. he yelled at me. "how could you not call my raise?"
