Playing \"Other Games\" live
Hi all,
I'm working on the FAQ for Other Poker, and one big hole in my knowledge is where these games are available to play live. If anybody knows of regularly spread Draw High, Lowball Draw (A-5 or 2-7), Triple Draw, Badougi, Pineapple/Crazy Pineapple, Soko, Chinese Poker, Razz, or other uncommon casino poker games, or mixed games containing any of these, I'd appreciate if you would post them. |
Re: Playing \"Other Games\" live
No one in Vegas spreads them regularly unless it's part of a mixed game high limit or enough people form an interest list at some of the other joints that will spread anything. IE: Aladdin, MGM, GVR and so on.

Klepton, lets Gamboool! In all seriousness, there is a semi-regular Triple Draw 2-7 game where I live, standard limit tends to be 5/10 (which plays like a 10/20 game). That is all I am going to say publicly. TT [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] |

Hawaiian Gardens has Pineapple and Mexican Poker - not sure how regular though

How big is a $10 a point chinese game? What could you go off for? I'm just curious, I'm a novice at the game.

Re: Playing \"Other Games\" live
Oh really? I thought it was much more - aren't there bonuses for sweeps and certain hands and some other stuff like that? If it's just 500, I'd probably play this just to try it when I'm down there.

[/ QUOTE ] I wouldn't sit in that game with less than 1K. The varience is huge. At commerce they play for $5 a point, Klepton and I lost 1.5K combined in a matter of a few hours. Of course the variance is also dependent on the style they play, western without the bonuses has the smallest variance. TT [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] |

Resorts in Indiana (Chicago area) has 3/6 and 5/10 Pineapple, rotating through all three versions. Doesn't always go

Re: Playing \"Other Games\" live
how does chinese poker work at the casinos? i assume theres a dealer and he shuffles/deals the cards. but does he also record the points by hand or what?
my dad is old school azn and hit up vegas like everyweek. he like them azn games like pai gow and baccarat. and i mean the REAL pai gow at the mirage with the tiles. he might be interested in some chinese poker. but i wanna know what to expect before i tell him about it. |
Re: Playing \"Other Games\" live
My girlfriend managed to talk the Rio into starting a list for 2/4 O8 (I know... not "other" but 2/4!?), which of course never got going. I also got a call from a friend asking if I thought he should play in the 3/6 HORSE game that was apparently being spread there at about that time.
There's no way in bloody hell I'd sit in a Razz game at GVR. From all the horror stories I've heard, the dealers there can't even read a holdem board correctly most of the time. |

[/ QUOTE ] Take papa to Commerce. $5/point, dealer takes $1 a hand (expensive game to play) and practically no tips. Dealer helps the players read their hands if asked, but otherwise each player is essentially playing HU against the others. You pay each other, the dealer does not get involved. I hope Papa is rich, because its a brutal game. I really like it none the less. TT [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] |
Re: Playing \"Other Games\" live
Badugi is not allowed in Vegas according to Raymer's online cardplayer interview at a WSOP cash game. But they play it anyway under another name as they did.

Re: Playing \"Other Games\" live
I don't live anywhere near California, but there are still small pockets of A-5 Lowball being played by (mostly) oldtimers. The games are dying out as the regulars pass on and the rooms switch to holdem. Here's a recent RGP thread on the state of California lowball. I found it fascinating that the town of Lodi was the last holdout in allowing non-draw poker games to be spread.

Re: Playing \"Other Games\" live
Oaks Card Club spreads Lowball. One draw, Ato5 (I think), no dealer. Watched it for a few minutes, nobody under the age of 50 sitting in.

Re: Playing \"Other Games\" live
At the broadway Casino in Birmingham there's a Pot-Limit Omaha 1/2 or 2/4 blinds unlimited buy-in game. Now that's not an other game in itself but the only thing is it's dealer's choice between 4 card omaha all the way up to 6 card omaha. I have trouble remembering all my holecards on numerous occasions.
