Re: recommend me a chainsaw
I bought a Poulan 16" at home depot for $149 a couple months ago. I needed something for light work and it's the perfect size for that.
The 18" was $199 if I remember right. Nice saws but definately on the low end of saws. I haven't had any problems at all so far and it got quite a bit of use in this year's fall cleanup. |

Re: recommend me a chainsaw
If it's a one time project I'd say rent a quality one. If you want one for repeated use spend the $400 or whatever a good one will cost ya. In the long run it'll save you money.

Re: recommend me a chainsaw
Splurge on the best possible one from Craftsman/Sears. Craftsman products are made by other brands and cost significantly less. When I worked there in, they had McCulloch making them for them IIRC. They cost about 80 less then the exact same model sitting next to it without the Craftsman brand.

Re: recommend me a chainsaw
That depends. Does it need to be powerful enough to cut through a human sternum?

yeah, ive been seeing bad reviews for the 18" "wild thing" i wonder if its possible to get a good chainsaw for<200? [/ QUOTE ] The wild thing is a piece of trash. I checked it out and determined it wouldn't last long. Cheap plastic crap for a shell. The blade seemed cheap as well. I don't think you can get a heavy duty saw for $200. I think $400 is more the price you need to pay for a husky or some of the other more beefy manufacturers. The poulan I have is fine for the light duty I put it through a couple of times a year. |
Re: recommend me a chainsaw
a husky or a sthil are the only ones that hold up and start when you pull the cord. i have had my sthil 028 wood boss for twenty years now and no problems.
years before i would burn up that mcullough or whatever crap in a few months. learn what you are doing first or plan on limping along for the rest of your life. they aint no toys. |

[/ QUOTE ] zee couldnt be more spot on. forget anything other than husqvarna or stihl. poulan, homelite, and anything else u see being sold at Home Depot or Wal Mart are total crap. Personally, i prefer the Husqvarna b/c the seem a little stouter than the stihl. either is a fine choice. oh yea, i know husq makes some weak 18inch weird like kmart series....u will know b/c it is the cheapest one. do not get this peice of junk. i burnt two motors up in that baby b/f i talked the powers that be into the 88cc behemoth with a compression release to crank it. i now pwn all tress and small vehicles with that baby!! |

Re: recommend me a chainsaw
Very nice gimmick.

Re: recommend me a chainsaw
Rent a good one. I would not trust a $200 chainsaw. This isn't a hammer we're talking about here. It's a [censored] chainsaw.
