How do I get a coloured name?
I know I'm not cool enough. But I want one, damnit. How do you become cool enough to get one?

Re: How do I get a coloured name?
One of the symptoms of avian flu is to start seeing inappropriate colors in writing. The only special colors on 2+2 boards are red and green.
Blue is an especially worrisome color. If you start seeing names or writing in blue, I'd head straight to the doctor. |
Re: How do I get a coloured name?
How do you set the name to dark brown (or is that burgundy)?

Re: How do I get a coloured name?
I'm gonna assume you're British because of the U thats jammed into color. Is there a story why Yanks decided to skip the U in this word as well as Favourite etc?
|
Re: How do I get a coloured name?
I thought colour was also acceptable in America, no?
The weirdest spelling difference I've seen is how Australians (where I live) spell the word 'jail' .... gaol edit: I spelled 'Australians' wrong |

Re: How do I get a coloured name?
That's because it was how it was spelt in the ~18th century when we shipped all you guys over there. As they'd all come from or took exile to avoid jail, the word had greater use and so was likely more resistant to change than normal English words.
(P.S, I think we should export our criminals to other countries too, Australia turned out pretty good - let's try Paris? And that was a joke too) |
Re: How do I get a coloured name?
There's a story for that too.
It's to do with knights and swordarms dictating passing sides and which side of the road you rode on - if you're right handed and you pass on the right hand side of the road, you can't swing your sword/hold your lance and hit the guy coming from the other direction. Americans just wanted to be different! |
Re: How do I get a coloured name?
Ignoring all the pathetic race jokes, it's down to the moderators. At least, I assume it is - I didn't ask to get a black name, I just woke up with it one morning, no notice.

We have a good sense of equality in a socialist/communist way (I don't know if these terms are correct, I'm a polotics n00b, what I'm trying to say is minimum wage is high, health care is good and cheap for everyone, welfare is high etc.), while still having most of the benefits of capatalism. If your father is a garbage man no one thinks anything of it, and treats you no different. After all, how can you claim you are 'better' than some one else when your ancestors are criminals? (For instance, I have in my family tree from Ireland, a thief who married a one-legged prostitute.) |

Re: How do I get a coloured name?
I think the PC term is "African American" or "person of color". You can always change your name legally.
My favorite for men: Dontrelle Leroy Antoine For women: Tamika LaWanda |
Re: How do I get a coloured name?
On a related note, I really hate the term "African American", it only works in the US. What exactly do Americans call blacks outside the US? African-English? African-French? It's stupid and pretty insular.

Re: How do I get a coloured name?
I'm saying that "African American" isn't an equivalent term to "black", because there're lots of black people who are not african american. Yet the terms are interchangeable to a lot of people.
