Laptop suggestions for 4-tabling?

Cross posted from Computer Technical Help:

Anyone have any recommendations for a laptop capable of 4-tabling (1200x1600 res I guess)? Good batterly life and good wireless card a must, and I don't want to spend alot more than 2k.

Also on an aside, does anyone have experience 4-tabling using a monitor with less resolution? I have heard of some program available that makes it easier somehow (active tables pop up better or something). Any help much appreciated!

I just ordered a Dell Inspirion 6000 with WUXGA for $884. I'm sure others who are even more coupon-savvy than I am have done better too.

Dell 9300 is the nuts at 1920 x 1200. I'm using one right now. Cost me $1350 in all (make sure to get WUXGA instead of just WXGA). You can probably get one for a couple hundred less if you wait for a deal.

Ignorant newbie question alert: Let's say you buy a laptop that has a screen with 1600x1200 or better resolution... what does it take to add a second external 21" monitor so I can 8-table? Is it tough?

I had a Dell 5150 with 17" UXGA (1600x1200). That worked pretty well, though it had problems with overheating (A Google search showed that you need to blow out the back with compressed air to clean the heat sink) and after 2 years, it died, possibly due to the mother board.

I wasn't able to run more than 2 Absolute or Cryptologic tables at a time without the system slowing down and crashing, but I could handle 4 tables from most sites.

I've tried that and all I get is 2 screens with the exact same windows.

How can I get different tables on the second monitor?

Go into display properties (right click on your desktop then properties) then on settings click 'Extend my windows desktop to this monitor' on monitor 2.

I was just reading that the dell 6000 has some connectivity issues and won't recognize wireless networks sometimes. So, if you want a laptop to play on wireless networks all over the world (or your town), I'd read a few reviews about it.

Maybe they were people with crappy wireless networks, who knows. But I was thinking about getting a laptop and this is what I heard.

Not exactly. YOu need to tell your laptop (via the desktop settings) that there's a 2nd monitor and to spread the display across this 2nd monitor. Still very easy tho.

Your're refering to something else, but while you wait for someone to give you a good link for that, get allSnap. It will to a small degree make your multitabling easier, and in general improve you quality of life.

Re: Laptop suggestions for 4-tabling?

What CPU do these have?

Running 8x tables + PA +PT = Pc lags. Not to forget internet and msn/aim.

Im ona 1.8GHZ Deskto 512mb ram and Radeon 9800pro one monitor XP pro.

Please think about the CPU and ram before u run off to get a laptop because it displays at 1900x1200......

Not running pt/pa = bad.

Re: Laptop suggestions for 4-tabling?

I'm running a Dell I6000, and I don't have any problems with the cards being too small. Sometimes the pre-action checkboxes are a tad hard to click, but it isn't a serious liability.

With that much screen real estate, an external mouse is a must.

why do ppl keep asking this when u only have 4 choices at most out there (due to screen resolution)

Not trying to hijack the thread but if I have a laptop that doesn't have 1600x1200 res can I hook up an external monitor w/ 1600x1200 to get that resolution?

yes you can do that.

mine (Inspiron 6000) has a Pentium M 735 I think, with 1GB of ram and I have never had any slowdown issues with it.

Re: Laptop suggestions for 4-tabling?

It does not bother me, but I also drag mine around with me to work on at school. If I was buying one just for poker I would look at the 9300. If you have poor eyesight or are worried about eyestrain I would go with the 9300, or maybe it is time to visit the eye doctor. The main selling point of the 6K was that it is light enough to save my back, I think the 9300 is 13lbs, the 6K is 8 or 8.5 IIRC.

Just want to chime in that I'm another satisfied Dell 6000 customer. Look around for coupons.
