Based on my DVD collection... What am I missing?

Hello everyone,

I am a big movie buff and am trying to build the ultimate DVD collection. Based on the current movies I have, what do I need to get to make my collection complete?

You can also include things I should get rid of. I am basicly looking for people who have the same tastes in movies as I do and what they recommend:

The Godfather Trilogy
Goodfellas
Casino
Pulp Fiction
Kill Bill Volume I & II
Star Wars Trilogy
Star Wars Episode I-III (when it comes out)
Swingers
Old School
Ocean's Eleven
The Great Escape
LOTR Trilogy
Snatch
Scarface
Super Troopers
Dazed and Confused
DodgeBall
The Rock
Any Given Sunday
Anchorman
Napoleon Dynamite
Miracle
Office Space
Terminator I-II
Braveheart
The Last Samurai
Animal House
Super Troopers
Rounders
Half Baked
Boondock Saints
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
Fight Club

On The Buy List:
The Matrix Trilogy
Jurassic Park I-II
Memento
Requiem For A Dream
Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (thank you)
Eurotrip (thank you)
Donnie Darko (thank you)
Forrest Gump (thank you)
The Usual Suspects (thank you)
Caddyshack
The Blues Brothers
Blazing Saddles
Se7en
Alien
Aliens
American Pie Trilogy

Edit: I forgot about my TV Collection:

24 Season 1
The Simpsons Season 3-6
Family Guy Season 1-3
Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 1-4
Seinfeld

Thikning about buying Lost and more 24.

There are a couple of these that I got for very cheap from a friend and don't really need/want and am willing to sell. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

get some weird movies in there, you have all the ones that everyone has. i'm thinking movies like waking life, battle royale, whatever. also don't buy 24, i mean how many times can you possibly watch that? just download. also for mainstream moves, get usual suspects.

Oh ya, forgot about that. I love the Usual Suspects. Also anything with Kevin Spacey or Edward Norton is a plus. They are probably my favorite actors.

With 24, I would have agreed, but I just bought season 1 after not having watched it since its release on TV and it was almost as good as the first time through. I'm thinking every couple of years this will be a good watch. Also, Kim is so damn sexy.

I think the American Pie triology is amusing...

*Se7en
*Fight Club
*Alien
*Life Of Brian
*Top Gun
*Cocktail
*Jerry Maguire
*Jaws
*Minority Report

Re: Based on my DVD collection... What am I missing?

Hell, I just checked my own collection, and I could list 10-20 under V alone...., so I quit.

But before I do, there's also:

TV Shows:
Twin Peaks
The Prisoner

+ ones I've seen recently that deserve a place in any collection:

12 Monkeys
25th Hour

Re: Based on my DVD collection... What am I missing?

I also want to mention that I need some movies that are good date movies or at least movies that girls and guys will like together. Top Gun is probably good for that. I'll add that to the list.

Re: Based on my DVD collection... What am I missing?

Movie i'm watching currently:

Second Hand Lions...

I really like it. Nice to add to the collection. Would be a good date movie.

Donnie Darko, i'll say again, ebcause it's one of my all time favs.

Re: Based on my DVD collection... What am I missing?

Ya ya, I already added Darko, it is a very good movie. I've seen entire forums dedicated to understanding that movie better.

Oh man! I almost forgot possibly my favorite movie! Shawshank Redemption is for sure on the buy list. This is one of the reasons why I posted, when I make my order, I don't want to forget the obvious movies that I love and still have an incomplete collection.

You seem to only be interested in movie made in the last 10 years, so that's gonna limit your choices on good films a lot. But if that's what you like:

City of God
Motorcycle Diaries
Yi Yi
25th Hour
Before Sunset
Hotel Rwanda
Fog of War
Werckmeister Harmonies
Sideways
Spirited Away
Amadeus Director's Cut
Triplets of Belleville
The Incredibles
Rushmore
Being John Malkovich
American Splendor
The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie (not recent, but I've never shown anyone this movie who didn't end up loving it)

Actually, that is not true. This is why I consider my DVD collection incomplete. I think only The Great Escape and Godfather are the films I have before the 80's, but I would definetly like more, and am interested in good movies from before that I may not remember to have listed.

Blarg - you beauty! I thought I was the only person in the world who liked/saw the Hidden.

I love the stripper in this, she's perfect.

And a kick-ass car chase, huh?

Blarg 10-20-2005 09:21 AM

Re: Based on my DVD collection... What am I missing?

That was one of the most fun films ever. And yeah, the stripper almost killed me. She still stands out as one of the most mind-blowingly sexy women I've ever seen in movies.

The action was outrageous, and the acting was even really good and interesting, often funny, sometimes touching. Kyle McLachlan's acting choices were just really interesting to watch throughout. I remember him saying that he was trying to play the role as if he were wearing a mask and trying to figure out how to animate it. His alient just wasnt familiar with humans and didn't really know how to do what he needed to do, to come off right. It was great; everything he did became interesting.

And yeah, that car chase sure started things off with a bang.

And I loved when the possessed guy goes, "I want that car," and you know what's coming has to be bad. REALLY bad. The whole scene of him taking it was hilarious.

The commentary is good too. Amazing that Michael Nouri never went anywhere; he was so good in this and in Fright Night. The director comments that he had everything he needed and was talented and on his way, but his obnoxious personality guaranteed that nobody in Hollywood would ever want to work with him again.
