i just can't imagine not firing out 1 bet in a 9 sb pot. why cap pre flop and give up? would you do this with any hand?

i have been seeing this more and more. I played a hand recently where the button raised, i three-bet, he capped. flop Q 3 2 r. check check. Turn i bet he calls. River xcheck, check and I lose to KJo. Pwned? Discuss. . .
