party poker syria

so i'm a BM player, and in syria for a few months. i have a PP acount, and put some money in it before i left. i've tried to logon from syria, and PP has informed me they, "don't take bets from this location per management decision." i emailed them explaining i was american etc... and haven't recieved a reply. has anyone encountered this type of situation before, and found a way around it? or are there any other sights, perhaps european, which might take my action from syria?

What's the penalty for gambling online in Muslim countries? Do you get your mouse-clicking finger chopped off?

I would highly advise against playing poker from Syria as individual's internet activities are quite closely monitored by the government and im pretty certain gambling is against the law. Where abouts in Syria will you be staying? There is so much to see and do there that i wouldnt even bother playing poker while there....

I think part of the issue might also be fear of terrorist money laundering

You could purchase a shell account in the states and go through it. Years since I looked at that stuff but I think you can get one that will encrypt the data stream also.

I'd guess that Party isn't interested in taking bets from a country that sponsors terrorist groups because of potential money laundering. Besides, would you want to be caught gambling by the Syrian government? Having your fingers cut off would be the minimum punishment that I'd expect if caught.

[/ QUOTE ] i've been trying to figure out why they don't take bets from syria, and i'm not certain this is it. i've played from lebanon(home of hizballah) before. as for gambling being illegal, idk, but there is a casino of sorts in one of the hotels in damascus. i can assure you that the syrian government would not chop the fingers off an american for playing poker online. not the type of publicity they're going for.

Interesting to see all the prejudices since Syria is part of the "Axis of Evil". The government is relatively secular.

[/ QUOTE ] i don't think they cracked the axis of evil, i thought that was iran iraq n korea, but i could be mistaken. Syria certainly has its faults, but it's not the madhouse that people seem to think it is.

So sick of the American prejudice on these countries. A portion of their land is occupied by a US close ally, it is no wonder they aren't too friendly towards US politically .

Not sure what prejudices you speak of, but I didnt realize that a secular government equated to good governance. Would you like examples of secular governments gone bad?

For starters, Syria . Just don't like the "we have a conflict with them=they must have sharia law" - prejudice.

It doesn't come across well over the Internet, but I made that joke in an ironic fashion, making fun of the fact that that stereotype exists, not making fun of Muslims or Syria.

Gotta love the ignorant European attitude. Do you have any knowledge of modern Syrian history at all? Syria is one of the vilest countries in that part of the world. Their overt state sponsorship of terrorism became such an issue that even their closest ally, the Soviet Union, was forced to distance itself from Syria in the 80's. Now if your international policies are so violent that even the Soviets are embarrassed by them....you have a problem.

But my guess is you're looking at this through the same myopic lens that most Europeans do. If so, don't worry about anything and just be happy that you have a big brother that will protect you.

I would get the same message trying to conect from Nicaragua. I phoned PP and asked them about it and they couldn't help at all.

Nicaragua isn't even on their no fly list.
This was a problem only with certain IP providers, so PP doesn't know where yo are some of the time.

If you can get on satalite internet it should work but these are not allowed in some places without a special permit.

Party Poker doesn't want to have to deal with the bad publicity that would be generated if you were caught playing poker on their website and then executed.
