What happened last night on ESPN on the Jennifer Harman bad beat hand?

I caught the brutal beat where the guy caught the 7d to get a straight flush to beat her boat, but what was she talking about when she was saying the other guy was rude? What did he say?

Thanks. It's bugging me.

Re: What happened last night on ESPN on the Jennifer Harman bad beat hand?

I think she was complaining that he was essentially CALLING all-in (or going to go all in for another chip) and hemmed and hawwed and put on an act with the nuts...but the wording she used, I missed and haven't had a chance to go back and check on the TiVo.

dude jenn way overreacted on this. she got beat and couldn't deal, she basicly acted like a spoiled little kid.....

Toddy 10-12-2005 09:33 AM

I just found out the reason..

My friend just reminded me. She put him all in and he thought about it and said, "I guess if I lose this hand I'll have a lot of sightseeing to do".. Then she kept going on and on saying, "that was a nice speech you did"

Re: I just found out the reason..

he knew he had the nuts. just call and flip over your cards.

i would've been upset if i were jenn. completely uncalled for grandstanding, probably just to get on TV.

This should be in WPT, not MTT.

Re: I just found out the reason..

Watching the replay right now. I don't think he did any grandstanding, he didn't delay for a looong period of time. I see nothing wrong with what he did. If I saw it right, she bet, he made his comment and raised all in, she called. He then flipped over the nuts. Where is the problem?

10-12-2005 12:13 PM

Re: I just found out the reason..

Nah, I think that the hand would have made it to TV, just because of the amazing board. However, I would have reacted badly too, I mean, it is the WSOP. That having been said, the guy kinda acted dick after he won the hand too.

wrongarm300 10-12-2005 12:18 PM

Re: I just found out the reason..

As I am still sitting here watching it, it's amazing that she keeps talking to the guy. Why doesn't she just move on? I guess she's never made a comment that she shouldn't have? I guess she's never pissed anyone off with a move?

GROW UP .. sometimes you don't win, sometimes you do. If her attitude turns this bad when she loses, maybe she should find another occupation

Re: I just found out the reason..

The problem is that she was pot committed, he had to be an idiot to know she wouldn't fold if he came back over the top.

I would've said "you knew I had that? Good, keep calling when you know you've lost, I need your chips" and then about 10 minutes later I would've said "man, that was ugly Jenn, sorry about that. You had the boat didn't you? Man, that's just brutal"

I'm pretty sure she bet enough to set him all-in and he called. I don't think there was a bet and a raise on the river.

Re: I just found out the reason..

shhhh....you're destroying his plan.

Don't you realize, if you never have any potential to become a World Class Player, then your best bet is to be critical of other WCP's - possibly even suggesting that they quit.

After all, if you're suggesting a WCP quit because of the way a decision was edited for TV, that must suggest you're better then the person who got beat, thereby giving you some stature as a WCP yourself even though you still wade in the kiddie pool -

You're destroying his rise to the top of the pile of [censored], man.

Yeah, he was way out of line there and she had a right to be pissed. The way he was talking she had to be thinking that she was scooping this pot for sure, then he slow rolls the nuts. How would one of the huge male poker ego's reacted to this? I think a serious ass kicking would be on the menu. And I'd stand and applaud a broken nose for that bastard.

Salva135 10-12-2005 01:15 PM

Re: What happened last night on ESPN on the Jennifer Harman bad beat h

His little speech and the way he played with his chips and delayed the call was totally uncalled for. It is the flat-out equivalent of slow-rolling, and has no place in the game at all. Jen had every right to be pissed, and I don't even think she overreacted that much anyway.

wrongarm300 10-12-2005 02:24 PM

Re: What happened last night on ESPN on the Jennifer Harman bad beat h

Guess I'm the only one that thought she reacted poorly, and that's fine, I don't need everyone to agree with me to make me feel better. I just feel she let it get to her more than someone of her level should. I still think if you watch it again, he reraised her on the river, therefore his speech was done to attempt to make her call ... even though, as previously stated, she was pot committed at this point, he still wanted to do what he could to make sure she called. I could be wrong, and being that this forum apparently has the smartest people on the face of the earth, someone will certainly point out my mistake.

Also, why wouldn't anyone that watches this episode make EVERY attempt to slow roll her from now on, seeing that she reacts this way? If you know that this will get under her skin that bad, why not take full advantage of this situation?

Oh to be a poker God

Re: I just found out the reason..

That's right, you figured me out. Another 2+2 Poker God. I was saying that if she reacts like that after a bad beat, she is apparently not as World Class as I once thought. Why didn't she just say "live poker is rigged". If she can't handle a donk making a miralce 1 outter, then I'm sorry for her. It's part of poker. I've seen hundreds of people do hundreds of worse things than that, but the players who lose don't always act like babies afterwards. There are exceptions, such as Poker Brat Phil, but he is a baby too. I didn't mind her being upset directly after the hand, but later when she went through the "Nice speech" deal, that was out of line on HER part

I've played over 2 million hands and only experienced 2 1-outers. It's uncommonly brutal.

She wasn't mad about that anyway, it was about the slow roll which she should be mad about. It's unacceptable behavior.

Hey, and while we're at it, since slow rolling gets under just about everybody's skin, why doesn't everyone just slow roll everyone else as much as possible!! Whatever you can get away with! F everyone!

This seems like a statistical anomaly. I assume you are only counting cards that you can see, and not those folded by others at the table. Even so, since the chance of hitting a one-outer on the river would be 44-1, this means you will only have someone drawing to one outers 44 times in one million hands of play. You must play against much better opponents than I do. I recommend better table selection.

I have had it happen to me at least 3 times that I can remember in live play and at least once online. I have played no where near 2 million hands. Probably closer to 200,000. Set over set loses when bottom set improves to quads. Nut flush loses when gutshot straightflush draw hits. Baby full house loses when second ace hits the board and two people each holding an ace chop larger full house.

There are many ways one outer situations can come up.

He called her allin, he said "i'm all in" but was in fact calling because her bet that put him all in. Second, he's not some average rookie donk, he's actually a poker pro and knows better than to slow roll yet did it anyway. Third, he knew he was dead on the turn yet made the call anyway and luckily hit a miracle card. To slow roll after sucking out like that is just bad business.

Others such as Barry Greenstein in early events have blown up over far less dick moves than what this guy displayed. Your obviously a douche at the tables yourself if you can't see that.

completely false... he didn't say his little speil until calling J. Harmon's all in bet on the river after already knowing he hit an unbeatable hand.

His excuse was that "he had meant to say that on the turn" but didn't say it until the river because he got confused in the excitement.

1) He didnt reraise her on the river, she bet enough to set him all in.

2) Are you suggesting that everyone should slow roll her because it pisses her off? Slow rolling pisses everyone off, doesnt mean they play any worse. All you do with slow rolling is make enemies. Being known as the biggest [censored] around is probably not a good idea. Unless you like getting robbed or beaten up when you step outside the casino, if you love that then by all means slow roll all day.
