When Should I stop?
Took a stab at the 10/20 6m today with 6500$. I'm down ~1400$. The games are incredibly soft, the beats are ridiculous. I'm definitely a winner in this game.

Re: When Should I stop?
thats a tough one but even a LAG can get a good hand. After the turn CAP I probably just call the river. AK, AJ, A9 beats you here.
I also look at his reaction to my raise. If he gives the weak means strong tell off I am more careful. Like delays thinking about your raise for 5 seconds then reraises you. The old "hmm, oh this is a tough decision, oh well I reraise" http://www.texasholdempoker-stats.com/ |

how much bankroll do you have behind the 6500?

how much bankroll do you have behind the 6500? [/ QUOTE ] Huh. If I had a bigger BR behind the 6500 this wouldn't be much of a stab, and I wouldn't be worried about a 75BB downswing. I sat down with 6500 in my BR. The tables were good enough to warrant it. |
Re: When Should I stop?
yea, when he caps the turn and leads out on the river I'm thinking he's got more than a lone A. Your hand feels strong as hell but if he 3 bets river, you definitely can't cap.
Take a break for a while....hours at least...they might be bad, but you will not be playing your A game now and losing another 1k would really hurt. They'll be there tonight... |

[/ QUOTE ] it's only up to yourself as long as you play good and have money so that you could play 5/10 again if you fail, but 10/20 can be more tricky than what it looks like, some lags play desent postflop wich is not true for 5/10. And it's a lot of lags so it will swing. But the only tip is to play when you feel confortbal, if you feel comfort with this then its just to hang in play well |

You'll also feeding TAGs. You probably are tilting at least slightly. The risk vr reward just isn't there. And you played the hand you posted badly. No way you are ahead 50% when you decided to cap. I'm definitely a winner in this game. [/ QUOTE ] How do you know after one day? You have a lot of SH experience? Also, your river cap in that KK vs. AK hand is no good. The 10 is not an easy game by any stretch of the imagination. I wouldn't recommend hitting it if you're asking yourself these sorts of questions after a -75BB day, which is a semi-frequent occurence at this game. Rob |
Re: When Should I stop?
Going berzerk on the river is bad; after the turn gets capped and he leads into you, think AK, AJ, and AA.

Rob [/ QUOTE ] The tables were incredibly soft according to the database that I was using, which had reads on most of my opponents. I'm a 2.3 winner at 5/10 6m after 40k or so. The tables were definitely softer than the 5/10 tables I'm used to playing. I haven't seen that many cold-calls since 1/2 6max. |

Rob [/ QUOTE ] I think it's possible he might know he can beat the players at a particular table, but it's clearly not possible to know he's a winner at the level overall. And the former isn't really important, unless he's asking whether he should get off one a specific table. |

[/ QUOTE ] if that's your whole bankroll (~5000 left), i would step down immediately. the tables are often juicy, but the aggression will make the swings bigger. losing 30-40% of your bankroll can affect your play pretty dramtically there's a reason 10-20 is still my main game even though my bankroll surpassed 1000 BB long ago - the games are great as long as you can handle the swings |

I don't think I'm a winner at the 10/20 usually, but I was sitting at some really really nice tables. I saw multiple people cold-call 3 a number of times. Cold-calling 2 was normal. |

[/ QUOTE ] I'm done playing. Ended down 1400$. I stopped about 10 minutes ago. I've got about 8k in savings from poker, and I play the 5/10 with 500BB's, or 5k, which I've got in my BR now, so I'm in fine shape. I had a good run at the beginning of this month at 5/10, so I'm actually only down 50$ for the month. I'm pissed I didn't walk away a winner at these tables, they were insane. |

Re: When Should I stop?
ah ok...similar situation to mine. I have money saved from poker but I guess I always think I could reload in an emergency so I count it as BR. Seems you'll be fine, gl.

I also think that adding 1 juicy 10/20 table to your mix of 5/10 tables wouldn't be a bad idea. There's no reason to jump up a level completely when you can mix/match tables and go for good game selection while easing your way into higher limit games. |
Re: When Should I stop?
I remember playing with you a lot at 5/10 joshua and I'm pretty sure you could beat 10/20 with good table selection. FWIW, I ended up down $2300 last night as well despite great tables.

Re: When Should I stop?
I don't think lots of cold-calling/floating is necessarily indicative of an easy game. In fact, if you're running bad and tilting at all, being cold-called by tricky players who don't fold incorrectly postflop WILL be uber-expensive. I know from experience here. Re: When Should I stop?
In regards to the cold-calling: Alot of these guys play pretty bad before the flop, but unlike at the 1/2, they can be tough post-flop.
IOW, I don't think their preflop mistakes give you as big an edge as you are assuming. |
