Little Desk sculpture

So in the mall below me there is this new little kiosk thingy. They sell these little things I'll call "desk sculptures." They resemble bonsai trees, but the leaves are actually little gems. (Clearly not precious stones, but quartz looking type things--colored stones)

Should I buy one of these type things for my desk? My desks at home and at work are quite bland. THey're also cluttered and I need to clean them, but that's another story.

What do we think? And if no, is there any cool things I could buy for my work desk? A friend had a little sand garden type that was pretty cool. I definitely don't want a ridiculous mechanical waterfall thingy.

But a fake-gem-fake-tree thing is right up your alley?

Re: Little Desk sculpture

They aren't as ridiculous looking as I'm making them sound. Just something to add a little color.

Maybe I'm way off here....

I think a picture (as previously requested) would be best to judge whether or not you should get that.
From your description, it seems to be a little too "feminine" for a men's desk.

I, uh, have something similar. Mine doesn't have "gems" as much as magnetic leaves.

It was a gift. It sits on a shelf. It's alot lower maintance that a real tree.

How much money would you want to stamp on this and post a picture of the remains?

Re: Little Desk sculpture

How about a pack of cards and some chips?

Could try two sharp pencils blue-tacked to the desk and lean over very quickly. Like a game of Russian roulette. Don't try with a blindfold though as this will ruin the effect.

These are cool and good conversation pieces and fun to play with.

Why not buy a real one? I assume they should be cheap and easy to take care of. Plus watering it once a day will be a nice excuse to stretch your legs.

Don't do it, man. My desk is also cluttered, and I value every square inch of space too much to fill it up with random stuff. One of the few personal items I have displayed in my office is my certificate of completion of the company's sexual harassment training. That pretty much owns any diploma people would display.

You had to be trained to sexually harrass people? I find it just comes naturally.

You assume incorrectly. By a long shot. Proper maintance of a bonsai is pretty involved. I know, I've killed several.

I am morally conflicted. I don't destroy gifts, but I like money.

The only thing I have in my cube is a Reef Calander.

You should make origami out of $20 bills and put that on your desk...would probably save money and look better.

I have a deck of Reef playing cards.

The box looks promising

But the deck is a little disappointing

http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/3...essorta2hr.jpg

Sure, that's nice, but the only cards of each suit that are different are the King, Queen, and Jack, and those are action photos of pro surfers sponsored by Reef. Which would still be pretty cool if deuce through nine were other babes.

sorry for the highjack

Sorry for the hijack. Without seeing the statue I'll say get it. If it interested you enough to think about it, you should just go ahead and do it.

Dude. No. God no.

Do you have an office with walls, or a cube? Clearly the correct answer is framed pics and prints. Also, a putter and cup of some sort is also good.

Re: Little Desk sculpture

Based on the description it sounds really tacky. so if you are unsure I would say no. If you really like it then who cares what I or anyone else thinks.

As for other suggestions, try going with something fun, My father at one point had a 12 inch Darth Vader, that would play the emperial march ,do a little light saber thing, and spout a few Vaderisms people seemed to like that. Also a Jelly Belly machine is good for many reasons.

Depends on the office and depends on you, but I think something that you and others can have fun with will be a better choice.
