New Milestone

Hi Everyone:

We just sold our 1 millionth book. That's quite an achievement for a company like ours, and of course we couldn't do it without all the support we have gotten over the years. So in addtion to making this announcement, we wanted to thank all of you.

Best wishes,
Mason

Wow - 1/10 the number of Dan Brown's single recent book, still impressive though.

Sincerest congratulations. It is staggering to think how much money you have probably made for the readers of those 1 million books.

Was it me? I bought another today!

Inquiring minds need to know. Was it Ray Zee's Hi low split poker?

and if so, do I get like an autograph or certificate or something?

Congrats to Mason!!!!

You do realize that you coud have gotten to the 1-millionth book faster if you had some sort of 1-millionth book promotion, don't you?

If 'dinner with Mason on your next trip to Vegas' was the prize then you could have announced this with about 20k books to go and could have gotten to that 1-millionth book in NO TIME!!!

Oh well...you missed out.
Maybe for your 2-millionth book.

congrats again.

Congrats! Just curious, but do you happen to know how many or what percentage of those were sold in the last 3 or 4 years?

Hi JpinAZ:

About 750,000 the last three years.

Re: New Milestone

Wow, that's an explosion for sure. The power of TV. LOL!

I can remember sitting in the Mirage in '99 thinking "TV poker would be awesome if you could have one of the players cards shown to you to play along..." Then WPT came along.

But, guess that means back in the Pre-WPT days my copy of "The Theory of Poker" would've given me some edges... I don't think outside of "The Gambler's Book Club" most folks even new about this sort of literature.

Now there's 2+2 books at Barnes and Noble.

Amazing, since around 2000-ish I can remember poker dealers saying "Ah dude, the rise of local poker has been killing Vegas Poker, no one comes out here to play anymore".

What a turnaround.

So tell me Mason, can you ride the tram between Monte Carlo and Bellagio these days and not get mobbed like a rock star? I can recall seeing you commuting in those days and seemed like most folks didn't even recognize you. You always seemed surprised when I'd say "Hi Mason"... as though you weren't expecting to get recognized.

Hi Shandrax:

The 1,000,000th customer was Borders. So it's hard to give them anything specific.

Mason...congrats my friend. Your hard work over the years has truly paid off and you deserve to reap the rewards. Personally, I can say I would be nowhere near the player I am without your books. It was a pleasure playing with you at 30-60 about a year and a half ago. I'll be in Vegas about 11 days in December, so I'm sure I'll run into you.

Take Care,
Jeff

Re: New Milestone = Ruining Poker

2+2 is ruining the game. 1 million books. Think how much money was spent on these books. All that money coming off the tables, out of the poker rooms, and lining the pockets of these slick, fast-talking publishing moguls.

Also, I used to suck pretty badly. I would sit down and throw a party with my chips. Poker was gambling; playing for fun. Like shootin dice baby. Then I read Theory of Poker. And another, and another. Now I've got 8 of these things lying around the house and if you lose money to me in a game you're gonna have to work really hard to get it back. You can thank 2+2 for that.

Thanks a lot fellas, keep it up.

Keep up the good work -- here's to the next million!

I have to say thankyou. Your publishing company has single-handedly payed off my debt, and payed for my wedding next year. Your books have payed for themselves thousands of times over.

Re: New Milestone

wonder how much it would come out to, if we could possibly figure out what 1 million 2+2 books @ roughly 29.95/each have made, profits-wise for the greater poker community.

"2+2 books: either the greatest books ever written, or the worst ever published. The difference? Do you own one, or does your opponent?"

The difference is not in the owning, the difference is in the understanding of the material. If owning a book makes you great at whatever game the book discusses, then there would be a lot less profitable games.

Astounding. Even half over the past 5 years would something, but that figure sas a lot about poker's popularity in the last few years.

Congrats, Mason, et al, and thanks for the great books.
