My name is Dave, and I have done the \"2/4 LHE staredown\"

In my defense, it was a long time ago... but I actually leaned over the table at stare at some chinese dude about my age, who leaned back to get away.

Fun times.

... before I knew what a douche that made me.

Anyways, anyone want to share their 2/4 staredowns, witnessed or ones you've participated in?

Re: My name is Dave, and I have done the \"2/4 LHE staredown\"

I never participated in one myself but once sat a table whereby the raiser would raise, straighten up his posture and staredown the last remaining person to act, picture a scary looking heavy metal dude with glasses and long hair.

i call it the "I am possessed, dont *bleep* with me, i listen to metallica staredown".

Needless to say, it didn't work and the dude got smoked.

A couple of years ago I am playing the 1-3 game at Excalibur on the last morning of the trip before I have to hit the airport. For some reason I decided to play really tight and was basically folding endlessly.

I do not remember exactly what the hand was but I had something interesting and started out the hand raising and getting reraised and basically seeing about 5 of the players at the table come along with every round until the river being capped. I do not remember exactly what the hand was but I certainly did not have the nuts on the river. 1st guy bets out, everyone fold to me and I immediatly raise him and just stare right at him. He grabs chips and plays with them and hims and haws and finally says, "You've got the XXX (Whatever the card was that would have made the full house or what ever the case was). I am pretty sure he has me beat at this point so I shrugged my shoulders and stare at him and say "Hey, you have been at this table all morning with me. What do you think?" He shakes his head like a dog just sprayed by a skunk, beats his cards on the table a couple of times and folds to me. I know he wants to see what I have but I just tossed the cards into the muck and he just about flips backwards in his chair.

For gosh sake! The pot was WAY over a $100 and he folds instead of paying another $3. I laughed for two days over that one.

I stare at players when I don't have cards. I'm pretty sure it freaks them out a bit but I try not to let them find out. It's just this game I play...

Re: My name is Dave, and I have done the \"2/4 LHE staredown\"

I caught a staredown in 2/4 LHE from some douche who just sat down and raised every street. We were heads up on the river and the third spade hits while pairing the board. I have a Full house and I guess he hit a flush. I bet out and he stares at me and raises. He says "Ive got the nuts". I ask him if he knows what the nuts are on this hand, he looks down and at the board and I reraise fast. He reraises me again because we are heads up I reraise him. I ask him if he can beat a flush. "I have the nuts" is his response. I think he is a Live PokerBot at this point and I reraise. Finally he calls. I flip over pocket 88's for the boat and he mucks and leaves. One hand. I guess he went home and turned on WPT or something to brush up on his game.

I was at Hawaiian Gardens last weekend playing $4/8LHE with a half kill. This douche sat down with an Oakley shirt, a pair of mirrored sunglasses, and an Oakley hat. He had a hand-held video poker game that he would play when he was sitting out.

Anyways, I raise from probably MP with A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. I think Oakley guy was the only caller, maybe more. Flop comes K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]3 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] or something. I bet out and he raises me. I quickly call. Turn is A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] and I bet out again. Douche stares at me for like a minute "Hmmm....not scared of the flush huh?" stares some more, then mucks. I laughed inside.

Haha, same guy got way pissed when 2 people left and an old guy fell asleep, so we were 6 handed. I was stoked cause I'd get to try my 6-max skills live. This guy nearly stood up and started yelling "Seat open, 4/8 Holdem, Seat open." hahaha..B&M is fun

My favorite douchebag move is to ask the floor to seat me in the 2/4 when I'm waiting for a spot in a bigger game like 10/20. I like sitting with two or three racks of reds.

A couple years ago I was playing in the 4-8 game at Mandalay Baya and was hammered and playing really aggressive and catching cards and basically being an first rate a-hole. This older guy chewing on a cigar would stare me down each of the 12 times that I raised his blind. I would just laugh and say something stupid.

3 limpers before me and I raise with Q6. Cigar guy 3 bets from the BB. Everyone calls. Flop comes A66. Cigar guy bets two callers, I raise, he 3 bets and I cap that $%^. Turn is the case 6. He bets, fold, I raise he 3 bets and I cap. River is a brick. He bets again, I raise, he 3 bets while staring a hole right through me. I laugh and ask the dealer how long we can keep raising. She answers as long as you still have chips in front of you. If it's heads-up you can go all night. So I 4-bet, and this guy is really staring at me now and I ask him "How many sixes are in this deck??" He looks really pissed and 5 bets. I of course 6-bet and he calls. I flip over my quads and he shows AA. He then tilts off about 2 more racks while staring at me the whole time. I proceed to get even more drunk and steam off most of what I won with my 1 outer.

I haven't stared anyone down but I have asked a couple of young guns to "please stop looking into my soul". This usually gets them to stop.

Re: My name is Dave, and I have done the \"2/4 LHE staredown\"

Luxor 2/4 on a Friday night.

I raise AQo from MP, button cold-calls. SB is a shaved-head kid (older than I am though) wearing shades and an IPod, up about $100 since sitting down by WPT'ing his garbage cards. He plays loose-aggressive-clueless. He calls, BB calls, and UTG trash-donkey calls.

Flop comes KJT rainbow. Shaved-head bets and everyone calls. I should have raised... I know.

Four to the turn: blank. Shaved-head bets, trash-donkey calls, I raise, button folds. Shaved-head is staring at me from behind those mirrored shades. I look behind me to make sure something isn't going on back there. Then I worry there's a piece of food stuck to my face. Finally, I realize he's staring me down so I sit back and forget about him. He and the trash-donk both call.

River pairs the the board tens. Shaved-head bets, trash-donk calls, I raise, shaved-head stares back at me for a while. I think he doesn't know the action is to him so I say "It's on you." He says "I know." He stares some more and finally re-raises, trash-donk cold-calls, I call.

He stares at me some more. Dealer turns to him and says "Please show us your cards sir." One at a time, he he turns over a king, then a ten (not suited) for the rivered boat. I say "Nice hand," and throw my cards face-up on the table. There are a few ooo's and ahh's from the other players. He stares back and finally speaks. "Ace high? I knew I had you the whole way."

This was in a 3-6 but this little tiny chinese punk who is probably about 14 sits down and a couple hands later I raised with AK and f'in everyone called. Flop comes down all rags and is checked around. Turn is another rag and he bets out of the SB and when the action comes to me I look up at him and he is giving me the stare down. I say "your staring me down in a 3-6 game buddy?" he says something along the lines of "Your the tough guy who raised, where you at now"...well I folded and he showed down a hand better than my A high. For the rest of the night I gave him the stare down and mocked is raiser comment that he made to me. I then cracked his aces. He dropped like 3 racks. It was awesome. Pokah is soooooo nice

Re: My name is Dave, and I have done the \"2/4 LHE staredown\"

A 3/6 table coach sits at our table and routinely takes 10 minutes every time it's his turn to act. He's probably the most weak tight player I've ever seen, and every time he sees someone win a pot with a trash hand he says something to them about playing garbage. Everytime I'm in a pot with him and bet or raise him, and he's sitting there, I say something to the effect of "You know it's $6 to you right" just to annoy him. Finally he's heads up with another kid who clearly has almost no idea what he's doing. The kid bets and our pro sits there for a while staring him down. The dealer tells him the action is on him. He says "I know, I'm just trying to get a good look at him." Then dealer chimes in "Sir, this a $3/$6 game." We laughed him off the table.

Re: My name is Dave, and I have done the \"2/4 LHE staredown\"

I have a problem when I play for a really long time especially low limit. I get a little crazy. Example the other night I'm playing 4/8 at the tropicana it's like 9am I've been there since 1am. I keep debating in my head if buying 10 racks and coming back to the table with them and firing every pot up would be alot of fun. It's almost time to go I am stuck like 20 dollars or some inane amount but it is the first time I am stuck all night, and only because I paid off an obvious flush and straight. So last hand I'm in the SB with 74 soooted it's 3 bets to me I cap it. Flop is 864 giving me a pair and some kinda flush gutshot draw, which I will treat like the nuts. I check raise the flop 5 players see a non-flush king on the turn I check raise again. River four I let out this loud squell and bet 5 people call. Trip fours take it down. I rack up and cash out laughing the whole way. I love low limit B&M.

Re: My name is Dave, and I have done the \"2/4 LHE staredown\"

Was playing some 2-6 spread a few weeks ago. There was one guy at the table who always tried to make dramatic moves and would think he would shock people when he made a reraise or when he dramatically would turn over 2 pair like it was a monster.

Anyway this guy was really starting to annoy me and I decided that I just wanted to pick on him all night. Didn't really care if I lost to the other players I just wanted to make this guys life hell. I rivered a couple big pots on him hitting gut-shot straights and he was starting to get pissed complaining that he had to win to make his car payments.

A couple hands later I am in MP and he is on the button. I limp, everyone folds and he raises. He says "I guarantee you won't win this hand". I say "You sure about that?". He says "There is no way you can beat me this time. I will bet you $100 on that". Instantly I say "Your on". Flop A-6-K. Capped. Turn 8. Capped. River 6. Capped. He stares at me for a while before he stands up, flips over AK for top 2 pair in a huge dramatic flourish all the time staring at me like I have a porn movie projected on my forehead. I start chuckling and say "Is that all? Only two pair?" and flip up A-6 for a boat.

As I am stacking my chips he is still staring at me and without looking at him I ask "So you got my $100?" and he mumbles something about "No side bets". I just laugh and tell him he can keep it and use the money on a bus pass.

Altho I am one of the old guys you guys enjoy ragging on, I thought I'd contribute. 4/8 at Trop in AC one Friday night draws in a lot of guys who'd been watching tooo much TV.

Youngish guy sits down in seat 10 with three racks of whites, camo pants, black tee shirt, dog tags on gold chain, very dark glasses and BERET! (The military look is important so take note). Dealer has to tell him to unrack some chips. Never says a word to anyone through a complete orbit.

We are HU and I C/R the turn. Without changing what is visible of his expression, he swivels at stares at me (I'm in seat 4) for quite a while. Finally I ask "Expecting an invasion, Commander? [insert military reference here].
Table laughs.

He goes as much on tilt as you can in LHE, reraises, I happily cap with the nuts. The river gets capped, I show the nuts, he turbomucks, picks up what's left of his chips and leaves, not the table but the room - maybe the city.

twenty something kid (see description above)sits down to my left and strikes up a conversation. About 5 minutes later, an older lady (who had been very polite and called everyone "sweetie" and seems out of place playing NL) doesn't notice the action is on her takes too long to play. This kid starts moaning and clapping and asks her if she's trying for an Oscar. A few hands later she catches a good river and takes 1/2 the kids money. The very next hand she reraises him all in. He calls, gets shown the nuts, tells the grandma that she can "take his money 'cuz she'll be dead soon and need to buy a nice coffin" and stands to leave. His cell phone is still sitting on the table, so in a fairly quiet voice I tell him he forgot his phone. He turns around, pulls his hat off, and screams "What the fk did you say to me". He sounds so convinced I wondered what I did say to him. I point at his cell phone. He picks it up and screams "I don't need your fkn help". By this time the floor man has arrived to escort him out, and the last words we hear were "Why do I have to leave. It was the old lady that started it."

I think in the Old West they used to shoot people for this kind of behavior at a poker table.....

My favorite at Commerce is exemplified by the following. I'm out of the hand. The guy to my left and another guy are in the hand. River is something like A7822. First guy bets. Guy to my left picks up his cards to look at them. I can see them, he has something like QT offsuit. He stares the guy down for 5 minutes, acting like he's thinking about making the call. Flicks his cards, stares some more. Finally throws the cards in the muck. I punch him in the face for being a douche.

It's all true except the punching in the face part, which is only what I wanted to happen, and not actually what happened.

Re: My name is Dave, and I have done the \"2/4 LHE staredown\"

GREAT thread!

My last trip to Vegas I hooked up with 2+2er Al Capone Jr. and we decided to Drunken-Magoo-it-up at the Excalibur's 2-6 spread limit game. Either myself of Al would max raise almost every hand pre-flop, pretty much pissing off the local rocks who immediately asked for a table change.

Anyway, barely 21 something sits down in seat 3 (we're in seats 8 and 9 directly opposite) and begins his WPT play on every hand with his Oakley's siting on the table.

A few hands go by and I find myself, Al, and Mr. Oakley 3-way on the turn (I have no idea what the hand was). Mr. Oakley bets out, Al raises, I re-raise, and Mr. Oakley puts on the shades and stares us down for a good 2 minutes before folding. Al and I look at each other and, without saying a word, both reach into our pockets and pull out the shades.

For the next hour we would play normal UNLESS Mr. Oakley was in the hand, then one or both of us would stop the action for 30 seconds to a minute and just stare at him. He finally had had enough and laughed about it and took off his shades and proceded to play "normal" poker at the table.
