The Top 10 NFL QBs
It was mentioned in that Tice/Martz post that Bulger might not be in the top 10 QBs in the leauge right now. Here's my top ten, what's yours?
(I mean right now who would you want to be quarterbacking your team and not who had an awesome career but is below average now (read: Brett Favre).) In no particular order because I don't want to think too hard: Tom Brady (I hate the Patriots . . .) Donovan McNabb Peyton Manning Trent Green Marc Bulger Drew Brees Steve McNair (Warrior) Daunte Culpepper (Though he might drop to the bottom 10 after a few more weeks) Michael Vick (Terrible pick by me, but I like him) Joey Harrington (He's just so calm in the pocket, flawless decision making, etc, etc) |
Re: The Top 10 NFL QBs
Where is Brooks Bollinger on that list?
|
Re: The Top 10 NFL QBs
1. Manning (guess which one...)
2. Tom Brady 3. Donovan McNabb (when I type this out I realize what a weird last name this is. I always feel like I spell it wrong. Why does no one mention this?) 4. Trent Green 5. Daunte Culpepper 6. Mark Bulger 7. Carson Palmer 8. Jeff George 9. Ben Roethlisberger 10. Matt Hasselbeck Guys I wouldn't touch with a 10 ft. poll (cue excellent ZZ Top song) Pennington, Plummer, Brooks, Boller, Bledsoe... |

Re: The Top 10 NFL QBs
Holy Moly. One guy has Harrington on his list. Another has Jeff George. You guys are nuts. I'm assuming the first was a joke?

Re: The Top 10 NFL QBs
Ok so I guess it wont be hard to top the other lists because of George and Harrington.
1. Manning 2. Brady 3. McNabb 4. Vick 5. Carson Palmer 6. Trent Green 7. Eli Manning 8. Marc Bulger 9. Byron Leftwich 1o.Ben Roethlisburger I really really wanted to put Farve on this list, he would be in my top 10 to have for one game of all time. |

Vick, Leftwich, Roethils, no Culpepper?

Vick, Leftwich, Roethils, no Culpepper? [/ QUOTE ] 87-133, 1065 yds, 4 TD, 10 INT, 20 sacks. 60.7 QB rating. No, I don't think he has Culpepper on his list. |
Re: The Top 10 NFL QBs

No, I don't think he has Culpepper on his list. [/ QUOTE ] And if this question had been posted before yesterday then Payton Manning would have been off your list? Citing a slow start from Culpepper puts you in the class of people who include Joey Harrington and Jeff George on their lists. Worse for you is that I"m pretty sure they were joking while I'm pretty sure you're not. |
Re: The Top 10 NFL QBs
Peyton before last week wasn't running his team into the ground. Merely not living up to the 49 TD passes he threw last year. Daunte is swiftly taking over for Kurt Warner.
|
Re: The Top 10 NFL QBs
You're insane. Culpepper lost the best WR in football and prob the best OC in the game as well. He'll be fine. To say that he's not a top ten QB is ludicrous. You do realize that he had one of the best seasons a QB has ever had last year, right? Judging him based on 4 games is horrible.
|
Re: The Top 10 NFL QBs
Plus, we should also add that Culpepper was sacked 9 times yesterday and the team committed 11 penalties.
9 times. You should read that again. 9. |

So what, you think that losing the best receiver in the game (which is what made him good anyway) is a good excuse for him to completely blow it as a mobile quarterback now too? The last Viking QB to take that many sacks was Archie Manning, far from the picture of mobility that people still want to paint on Daunte. He was made by his receiving corps. Meanwhile, Vick gets pounded for winning while not passing the ball to his horrible receivers, and therefore is left off many lists. The double standard is ridiculous. |
Re: The Top 10 NFL QBs
I"m saying that losing the best WR in the game *and* his OC (and his current #1 WR) is enough to say, ok, give this guy a bit of time to adjust. Its easily reason enough not to discount what he's done in the past.
|
Re: The Top 10 NFL QBs
Fair enough. But I don't think he's got it anymore.

[/ QUOTE ] I don't know what's wrong with Culpepper, but the blame here has to go squarely on HIM, not on losing Moss. Vs. Cincy he looked like a rookie; he was completely lost at all times & repeatedly threw the ball directly to defensive players. Last year he was amazing, I'm pretty dumbfounded by his play this year, but if I needed to win a game next WEEK, he'd be about #25 on the list of NFL starting quarterbacks I wanted leading my team. If i wanted to win the Super Bowl next YEAR, he'd be about #8. At the end of last season, I'd have put him about #3 jvs |

Fair enough. But I don't think he's got it anymore. [/ QUOTE ] I think you are massively overreacting to a few bad games esp. considering the rest of his career. It's not like he just turned 40 or is coming off a major injury or something. |

1. Peyton

1-10 (not totally in order)
Brady Peyton McNabb Palmer Green Culpepper Favre Vick Roethlisberger Delhomme Best of the rest (not totally in order) Hasselbeck Bulger Brees Leftwich Collins Brooks Eli? |

That is the first list I like. Brett edit: Eh, I'd prob bump up Bulger though. |

1-10 (not totally in order) Brady Peyton McNabb Palmer Green Culpepper Favre Vick Roethlisberger Delhomme Best of the rest (not totally in order) Hasselbeck Bulger Brees Leftwich Collins Brooks Eli? [/ QUOTE ] I too like this list. Actually, I like the top 8 you have listed there. Roethlisberger and Delhomme could probably be substituted with many of the "extras" you have listed there on any given day. In fact, I would probably move Collins up and move one of these two down. Some people may be shocked that I wouldn't include Roethlistberger in the top 8, me being a Steeler fan and all. If you go by winning percentage and leadership, then he's right there near the top. But, I think his winning percent is in large part a function of the team he plays for. I think if he were on a different team that does not rely so much on the run, things might be different for him. He makes good decisions and is a leader but some of the others listed below may have more talent. |

Some people may be shocked that I wouldn't include Roethlistberger in the top 8, me being a Steeler fan and all. [/ QUOTE ] Well, he's only played 17 games, but his career yards/attempt is a ridiculous 9.3--Peyton Manning's y/a last year was 9.2 and he had way more offensive talent than Roethlisberger. I do not doubt that he is one of the top QBs in the NFL. Brees is underrated in this thread, he has been extremely productive over the last two years. I'd rank the top QBs: 1. Peyton Manning 2. Tom Brady 3. Donovan McNabb 4. Trent Green 5. Drew Brees 6. Ben Roethlisberger 7. Daunte Culpepper 8. Marc Bulger 9. Michael Vick 10. Pick'em... Palmer/Delhomme/Hasselbeck |
Re: The Top 10 NFL QBs
I like this list.
|
Re: The Top 10 NFL QBs
Jeff, I am a Ragin' Cajun and love Delhomme to pieces but he doesn't compete with either Hasselbeck or Palmer. I drop Vick and Delhomme from the list, go Palmer 9 and Hass 10 and call it my list.

[/ QUOTE ] I would argue that the Plaxico, Ward, and Randle-El combination was pretty darn good not to mention one of the best offensive lines in the game. I understand your point but there is has definately been some talent around him. Indy likes to pass. Pitt likes to run, wear the defense down, and control the clock. I think that's one of the reasons Indy's defense "looks" better this year. They are not constantly out on the field. |
Re: The Top 10 NFL QBs
1. Manning
2. McNabb 3. Brady 4. Vick 5. Roethlisberger 6. Brees 7. Palmer 8. Favre 9.Leftwich 10. E. Manning If I'm picking a team for the rest of the season, this is how I would choose. |
Re: The Top 10 NFL QBs
Meh. McNabb gets way too much love I think. If he were white, he'd be Kerry Collins... above average QB that explodes when he gets 1a or 1b in receivers.
|
Re: The Top 10 NFL QBs
I disagree, Rush.
|
Re: The Top 10 NFL QBs
I was completely joking about Harrington. I thought that would be clear since he's been playing so shitty.
|
Re: The Top 10 NFL QBs
[ QUOTE ]
I disagree, Rush. [/ QUOTE ] Seriously, though. Nobody would have thought to put Kerry on his list of top ten before Moss. McNabb's a pretty good QB, but #2 or #3 in the league? The only time he's ever put up that kind of numbers was last year. I mean, I don't think it's just race, but his marketability (lots of charisma, high profile team, good looking guy, high draft pick) that put him in the minds of everybody. |

Meh. McNabb gets way too much love I think. If he were white, he'd be Kerry Collins... above average QB that explodes when he gets 1a or 1b in receivers. [/ QUOTE ] In all fairness, he went from having the WORST receiving corps to having T.O., so there's no real middle ground to rate McNabb on. He does crap it up a lot more than many people outside of Philly realize, pulling Allen Iverson type games where he just can't come close to finding the target. Two years ago he started out just as bad as Daunte is right now. Absolutely awful. Worst QB in the league for the first 6 games or so. When healthy, he's a legit top 5 QB. Without his mobility, he's probably around the bottom of the top 10. |

[/ QUOTE ] The problem of late is not so much physical restrictions on his mobility (Although I suppose that is no longer the case), but that for some reason he feels the need to prove himself as a pocket passer. He should run more. |
Re: The Top 10 NFL QBs
Last year as a pocket passer he completed 64% of his passes, threw 31 TDs and 8 picks. Why should he run more?
