I am the author of Guide to NLHE tournament play: fifth edition

If you don't understand why that makes me an expert, read my guide 3 times and take notes.

I also came in 2nd in the $30 rebuy on Paradise, 8th in in $150/$200K on Paradise, 7th in the Super Thursday on Party, and 3rd in the $10 rebuy on Stars.

Tom McEvoy's article is crap. He spends eight paragraphs saying to raise with AA. And he calls it a "power play."

Here would be my article:

You have AA. Push or call all-in.

I have always thought you should include the group of hands that can only be played against a raise. Like 93s for example, if 993 flops who will know?

The McEvoy article says if there are 3 limpers and you are in CO with AA to raise to 8xBB to take the pot or get heads up.

The point of a power play like that is legitimate, and you might use it against limpers with AQ, KQs, TT, or something, or as a steal.

With AA, I would probably raise to about 5xBB here, more or less depending on how the table is playing. I want to get called, but I want to narrow the field and build the pot.

Some people put in a pot building raise to make sure they get called. I think that is dangerous, because you let too many people in with a small pot. Plus you may tip off your hand, enabling people to make correct decisions.

Overbetting the pot with AA is fine is if you think you will get a caller. However, McEvoy acts like taking the 4.5xBB pot preflop is a good result. This seems like a scared approach or that of someone who plays badly after the flop.

According to my sources in Stockholm, my manual has been nominated for the first Nobel Prize for poker.

The other nominees are Sklansky for the gap principle, Sklansky for "the system", Brunson for his chapter on NLHE in "Super System", Hellmuth for eagles, lions, jackal, mice, and elephants to represent poker players, Hellmuth for the top ten hands, and Hellmuth for the theory of capping preflop with medium pairs in limit holdem.
