is it just me or does the small stack on stars always BUST OUT

no matter what happens on stars if you are the small stack in a tourney you will be tossed about 80% of the time. i've seen it many many times as i am sure most of you have. its almost undeniable that you are dead in a coinflip shortstacked. forget coinflip how about 80/20, they'll hit a set almost every time.

when playing big MTT i like to watch the chip leaders tables and a couple others. or when it comes down to the last 8 i pull up every table since i have 2 19 inch monitors. every time short stack is all in it always comes.

eh, not saying "online is rigged" but from playing billions of tourneys on stars this seems to be the norm

Wow, man. So, it's not rigged, but the odds are just different? You obviously look down on people who say online poker's rigged because you know it's incredibly stupid to make an assertion like that with a tiny sample size and selective human memory, so you try and get the best of both worlds by claiming it's rigged and saying you're not.

Please don't post crap like this again.

Um, short stacks generally have the disadvantage against the big stacks at final tables.

Do you see why?

it's just you.

Re: is it just me or does the small stack on stars always BUST OUT

Your chances of winning a tournmanent are directly related to your chip stack size. If you hold 40% of the chips in the tournament, your chances of winning are 40%. If you hold .001% of the chips out there, those are your chances of winning. Sure you may beat the odds, but when they're stacked against you so strongly you're almost sure to lose. This is outlined very clearly in David Sklansky's Tournament Poker for Advanced Players.

Do you understand how these 2 variables are directly related?

Maybe because shortstacks have to take more risks?
Just saying.

It seems like as small stack your days are numbered. There are exceptions. Last night I had gotten down to around $120 in an early round and was able to scratch my way back to around $11000. That has been the exception.

When you are small stacked (I am often) your options are limited and it is a race between raising with the best hand and the rising blind structure. Very tricky to navigate.

I have often seen the small stack go all in and double up, maybe because they waited for a monster hand.

*Sigh*

The other day, I was in a live tourney, and I my friend and I both were at the same table. We both had less than average, and both got all-in versus the chip leader.

His A-K killed my J-J and my friends A-Q.

We both went home.

Do you see why?

It's not you. Poker Stars is rigged so that the tournaments will finish faster by busting the small stacks.

i always seem to do decently well when i'm shortstacked.

doesn't feel like the odds are against me.

When a big stack has a short stack all-in you don't take as much notice when the small stack wins because no one got knocked out as the big stack was not at risk for his tourney life. So it's probably just a psychological thing i.e. knock-out hands get more attention from you and you unknowingly glaze over non-knockout double up hands. I assure if you actually tracked the results of coinflips or 80/20s all-in PF, big stack vs. short stack the results would be exactly what you'd expect.

I was at that table, the whole time thinking "Why do these people just keep GIVING him their chips?" Seriously though, nice comeback. You get credit for the suckout because you were aggressive

Some advice on your next to last hand. KTo is way to weak to be calling a 4XBB raise from an EP raiser. The guy had been raising his strong hands and limping his mediocre ones, so I think you have to give him credit here. If you're going to bluff on the flop, you have to bet more than that, especially against a loose calling station. But why on earth did you call that river bet when calling left you with less than 1BB? Were you just not paying attention? You've got to either move all in with that one or fold.

If there is one online site I am sure is not rigged, it is Stars. They seem to be geared towards good players, which sometimes makes their competition tougher. I have cashed out many times and do well after cashing out.

This post makes no sense. Are the big stacks supposed to bust out when they lose an all-in to the short stacks?

Also, how do you find the time to play billions of tournaments? And more importantly, if you think Stars is rigged, why didn't you stop after the first few hundred million-- wouldn't that be an adequate sample size?

well, i think what you can take out of this post is that it's better being a big stack than a wussy small stack in the late stages of a tournament ;0

Get back to us when you have a larger sample size, and have done lots of data mining to prove this.
