When to check behind vs. when to value bet....

5/10 NL - I have only seen Villain play one hand - he raised to $20 UTG+1 with KK -
flop came 3 A J r - he check/called $40 - turn was a K - he led for $100 and was minraised, he called, river was blank and he check-called $200. The other guy had AA so Villain's passive play saved him money here.

On to the hand...

Villain ($710) limps UTG I ($1200) raise on Button to $45 with AsKs

only Villain calls -

Flop ($105) 4c Ad Kc

I bet $80, he calls.

Turn ($245) 6h

I bet $145 - he calls.

River ($535) - 9d

Is this a clear value bet?

If so how much are you betting here?

I'd bet at least $300. If he has a set, so be it, but I'd guess he could have another Ax 2pair or a high ace. If you knew a bit more about him, I guess a check behind is possible - but I think you're leaving too much value against passive opponents w/ AQ, A4s, A6s, AJ, and maybe he even folds other AK?

I like $100. AQ or maybe AJ will usually give you a $100 call here.

A value bet for $100? Go for at least $250

Villian has shown he will come along, no reason to leave money on the table, $300 is much better.

200-250 looks good. Against passive stations a check behind would def be leaving money on the table.

I think you bet no less than 1/2 the pot here, which I think is standard. What about if you are raised? I think this is clearly a value bet but what range of hands would he re-pop it with?

Min bet that way he'll make a crying call with a pair of deuces or queen high.

What kind of hand do you put him on?
Limp UTG.
Just calls that flop (2 flush) with an A and K out there. 44 would raise that flop and 55-JJ would fold. QQ I can't see limping PF but would fold flop also.

After the flop smooth call I put him on something like JcTc QcJc, AcXc, AQ, AJ.

Turn, nothing changes he's still probbaly just calling with those hands.

River. You get nothing out of JT and QJ. AcTc will call $200. Maybe some lower kickers will also. Ac9c and Ac6c will probably call $400. AQ and AJ $300-$350.

Based on that. I think $250-$300 is a good amount.

Thoughts?

RESULTS

Villian had Kd5d for second pair crap kicker. Obviously he put me squarely on QQ.
