\"Official\" Live at the Bike thread (9/19)

It'll be hard to top last Friday's action on L@TB as Kenna James lost a 25k+ pot to Barry Woods in a hand that that'll surely be remembered by those that saw the action (maybe they could show it again tonight). Tonight's game is 5/10 NL 500 min/no max buyin, and you can start watching the action over at www.liveatthebike.com from 6pm-9pm PT.

Hey Bart/Dave...who had to face handing Kenna his bottle? I'm guessing it tasted bittersweet.

Who gave Kenna the bottle of wine, and did Kenna return the bottle over that person's head?

^5 to truth for coming up with the same question at the same time.

I just popped in for a minute. Just in time to hear Dave and Bart seriously discussing how "running it" more than once could or should affect your play. I am absolutely nonplussed. These guys do this for a living?

Maybe Mo's call was good. Maybe not. But running it three times in no way affected his EV.

God, I'm listening to more of it as I type this. Mind boggling. How can they not understand?

cwsiggy 09-19-2005 09:52 PM

Re: \"Official\" Live at the Bike thread (9/19)

But if you run something say three times, don't you lower your variance i.e. - have a chance at making some of your losses back. When you say EV - do you simply mean your odds of winning(sucking out) - I can see how they don't change (though they do change a little cause if you miss the first time and you have 8 outs - you now have 8 outs over the deck -1 and the third time 8 outs over deck -2)

Yes. I recently posted an explanation as to why it lowers the variance. But surely Mo has enough of a bank that he is not concerned about variance when making a $1300 play. More importantly, if you are making a negative EV play, reducing the variance cannot make the play favorable.

There are many Highland Park's in the US, now if the one in Dallas is home of the Tomahawks then you win.

Nice pot with the set. God I love hitting sets with ragged boards. Even better though when someone has top two that misses.

Re: \"Official\" Live at the Bike thread (9/19)

Not to harp on this so are you guys (Bart and Tuch) saying that with x number of outs you have, you are 100% to hit it at least once? I'm not sure that works out unless you have what - 15 outs?? (2.1-1)

Jive Dadson 09-19-2005 10:09 PM

Re: \"Official\" Live at the Bike thread (9/19)

Let's take it to the extreme. Assume they run the river as many times as the cards will allow, not burning any cards. The result will be that both players get their EV exactly - zero variance. If Mo's EV in making the call was, say, -$50, then by running it "completely", he would always get $1250 back from his $1300 "investment". Obviously, he would have been better off (by 50 bucks) to fold.

Daves marginal tournament call

Dave , ist that the reason why people like Phil ivey are so successfull, they constanty raise and re raise in position...they do this so often that you never give them crdit for having a hand ..meanwhile they are stealing and accumulating chips, and before you know it you call them all in and find u are up against a monster!!!

why do they all have matching hats? is this some weird family reunion?

That's what Barry Greenstien was saying is a great way to play NL, raise the same amount with your speculative hands and your monsters.

Jive Dadson 09-19-2005 10:17 PM

Re: Daves marginal tournament call

This running-it thing reminds me of a guy on the internet who had a roulette system. When confronted with the argument that raising and lowering his bet did not change the house advantage, he would trot out all sorts of trivia about how likely it was to lose 10 bets in a row and whatnot. He could come up with innumerable variations.

I think it's a way to pimp the product, I say they give some of those hats out to the loyal viewers.

kelvin474 09-19-2005 10:17 PM

Re: \"Official\" Live at the Bike thread (9/19)

With 8 outs headsup, running it 3 times:
36/44*35/43*34/42 = 53.9%

So you're a small favorite to sweep the guy if you are the one in the lead.

Re: \"Official\" Live at the Bike thread (9/19)

Furthermore, I dont like the c/r w/ q9 on that hand. A thinking player who knows how you play (if you are solid) is gonna know something is fishy and maybe even muck right there. He MIGHT call, but surely he is gone on the turn, and he is tight, he will fold right there. Raise like you mean it or dont raise at all.

Are they going to have a Ladies Night again this week? I have to come down and pick up the t shirt and book and would like to play if you are going to have it again this week.

Anybody know the next time they are going to spread a high limit game? 300 600 or higher? Especially if it's further in advance so I can plan ahead. I am planning on making a trip to CA at some point in the nearish future and would love to sit with those guys.

I love the live at the bike concept - and think it has a lot of potential. BTW - anybody know who these announcers are? Nice to listen to poker announcers who have some clue about strategy.

Cheese curds are actually pretty good, except that they squeak against your teeth as you chew them.

Other than those and the highest # of bars per capita in the nation, there is little reason to come here.

Wish I was back in MA.
