OK 10/20, you win - NC

I'm clearly not a winner in your game. I'll go back to beating the [censored] out of 5/10. I'll be back someday.

There's no shame in dropping down as long as you're making money at some limit. You know you'll be back. You know you'll kill it eventually. Everyone who reads your posts knows this is true. No need to rush. Been there, done that, keep grinding. You're the face guy for all of us who are in a bitter battle with the downside of variance, and its nice to have that sort of symbol.

That's a nasty downswing. Only you know whether it's a bad run or bad play. Good luck in any event.

Bad luck. Build some confidence and try again.

My first 70K I was at 2.5/100. Next 40K was breakeven. No game around with greater swings then shorthanded Fixed Limit Holdem.

Re: OK 10/20, you win - NC

10/20 tables are really hit and miss as compared with 5/10 where you can play at virtually any table, I often try half a dozen 10/20 tables don't find anything where I excpect my earn to exceed that of 5/10 despite the lowered stakes and return to 5/10.

Just because you decide to play a limit doesn't mean you HAVE to play it everytime you play poker.

My biggest one-day loss at 10/20 was 130BB and that had me quickly running back to 5/10 to regain a little bit of confidence.

Says the man who was running at like 6 BB/100 or whatever other ungodly amount you said last time I was in LA.

I just came out of a 175 BB downswing if it's any consolation to either of you (probably not).

I just came out of 2 consecutive 250 BB slides that put me break even for 20k hands. The swings in SH are brutal, but that's part of what makes it fun.

Well if you asked me a month ago during the most frustrating poker I have played (breakeven 40K) I would have said you were *crazy*, but after recovering from that and now a +400BB swing in a few days and a couple of thousand hands... this is fun

Re: OK 10/20, you win - NC

I don't think that's a terrible swing (the last one was what, 160 BBs?), and I think you are a winner at 10/20. I'm surprised this would send you down...I know you must have the BR for 10/20 (?). I've been observing those 10/20 tables and the biggest factor I think in a solid player moving up levels is increasing care in table selection. There are 10/20 tables with 3 bad players and if you get position, it's the equivalent of a normal 5/10 table - very profitable.

im currently digging myself out of a 250BB downswing at 15/30. downswing is at around 200 right now. my winrate is still fairly healthy after 20k hands tho. variance is a bitch. the long run is really really long. :/

I agree that table selection becomes much more important at 10/20 although I can usually find 3-4 good tables in the evening and 1-3 during the day. Last night I sat down at a table and there were 4 players (one with the name IStealBikes...) with stats in the neighborhood of 25/18/2.5 and one fish with stats 50/10/1. There's no reason to sit at tables like those. Also be ready to leave when the donators leave/bust out.

As much I sympathize with your downswing, I am amused how these posts always bring out the downswing chanters. Before you know it everyone is once again comparing how bad they once had/have it.

We get it guys, we play poker, we run bad, then we run good, rinse/repeat. You people need to start a support group. "Hello, my name is _________ and I can't stop talking about downswings".

I am far from the conspiracy theory type but it is funny that you bring this up. I have noticed for a while that when I open up 4-6 tables and start playing it is often an all or none deal. I usually beat all the games or none of them. I know this makes no sense but it is just something I have observed. It has nothing to do with me playing tired or bad or whatever either.
