I gotta say RBI Baseball for original NES, i think it was in 1987 or so.

Obviously there have been better games, but this is the one that I enjoyed playing the most.

I always liked Blades of Steel. As I recall, only the looser of a fight was penalized.

I've never played Tecmo Super Bowl for Nintendo. However, anyone played Little League WS for the old school Nintendo? That game was awesome. My friend used to bring it over to my house to play and we always use to fight so he would leave and I would never tell him he forgot his game. Oh, to be 6 again.

Tecmo Super Bowl was excellent, Bo Jacksona and LT were unstopable in that game.
Still think it was a very close second to EA Sports NHL 94 (95 and 96 are great too). I could still play that game forever... it will never lose its entertainment value.

Madden is good, not the greatest partly because Maddens commitating voice is so annoying.

I use to have NHL 95. I love that game. I stand by my claim that the SNES put out much better games than the 64 ever did.

No it's not. Sound is a huge part in video games and Madden being a moron hurts it.

NHL95 for computer.

NHL94 for Sega is comparable - 93 is close too.

I'd put Tecmo Super Bowl above NHL93 - I never played it for NES but a friend of mine and I got so into it this year at school we had to buy gamepads to play heads up.

Try using the Lions. Jerry Ball & Barry Sanders=unstopable. Just don't try and throw the ball, because Rodney Peete is horrid.

NHL 95 was great, the player ratings were a little more realistic, but I beleive that this year EA sports got ride of the blood in when a player was injured.

NHL '94/'95 were awesome, but NHL didn't get great 'til you could start controlling the goalie. I say NHL '97.

I never really used the goalie controlling function... when I was playing and my team did not have to puck, I was consitrating more on injuring players on the other team then being the goalie.

This game will always be #1. There are other great games through the years, but they will always be fighting for second.

Bo Jackson is the greatest video game athlete of all time. I saw an interview with him last year where he said that to this day he can't go anywhere without someone bringing up Tecmo Super Bowl.

Triumph36 09-19-2005 05:42 PM

Re: The Greatest Sports Video Game of All Time

Not true. At least, every version of NHL94 I've ever played does not have any blood - Swingers got it wrong and combined NHL93 (which had fighting and blood) with NHL94 (no fighting or blood).

NHL95 for computer was by far the superior game - it's a shame I don't have a computer on which to play it anymore because of the antiquated graphics drivers. Stephane Richer's slapshot never looked so good. And who could forget that three hits on the referee got the third offender tossed from the game for Abuse of Official?

Stephane Richer, Claude Lemieux, Al McGinnis and Al Iafrate all had excellent slap shots. Having one of them break the rink board glass multiple times in one game was amazing.
The game crowd always cheered the loadest when the referee was checked, regardless if it was a home or an away game.

McGinnis was quite good, but you should check out that cat MacInnis. He was even better, and not imaginary.

My vote for one of the worst sports games: LJN's Major League Baseball.

Wow. Who knew hitting a foul ball into the stands would cause the game to freeze? And hitting the wall was a homerun? And the players could run faster than the outfielder could throw the ball? Not to mention if you select all-star game you had to take 10 minutes just to select your team. I still will play it, though.

BASEBALL STARS for Nintendo. That game was off the hook.

Honorable mention goes to California Games, I rocked that hacky-sack.

You must be one of my old friends that I lost touch with, named Ben Rondot. He owned both of these games and I think it is impossible that more than 1 person on the planet owned both of these crappy games.

So...hey Ben! Nice to meet you again, it's been about 9 years! How've ya been?
