Bot detection

I was wondering what the sites are doing about detecting bots? Anyone know?

use your bet and you'll find out what one is. Otherwise, you don't need to worry about it.

Re: Bot detection

I believe party is using the now familiar images of words that are used by google, yahoo, etc. About three months ago I was 4 tabling party using autoit scripts to free myself from the mouse. I had played about 5 hours when a box popped up asking me to indicate what words the image displayed or my ability to play at the table would be terminated (or something to that effect).

Anyone else have a similar expereince? It had never happened to me before and never has since.

That is what I heard and saw somewhere on the net, that Party was doing that or was going to do that. I have never seen it yet. Interesting.

Are you trying to tell us that you are a cheater? Disgusting.Learn to play, you won't need to worry about bot detection then.

I think party has already implimented captcha authentication. There are other ways, like running processes, mouse heuristics, and other countermeasures that we probably don't know about.

Party is using or was using a "Captcha" type program, not sure what exactly sets it off but if you use autoit or autohotkey to set up hotkeys this is probably doing it.

I don't think using these programs to build hotkeys is a problem but Party can't tell for sure what your doing so they hit you with a verification popup every so often.

Things that may set it off
1. cursor not actually touching the buttons(hotkeys)
2. speed at which your play takes place
3. amount of time spent playing without delays or mistakes

There could be many others, again these only apply to autoit or autohotkey, both programs can be scripted to do things as simple as "hotkeys" or as complex as bots(more skill than I have).

Hope that helps

[/ QUOTE ] ha ha...it is so funny how misinterpretations can happen in an email and how people's perceptions are formed. I have no idea how to play with a bot or would I. I am coming from the perspective of playing against bots and what are the sites doing to prevent it. Not to worry. I am always amazed at the negative attitudes on this forum, it is like everyone is out to attack you. It is weird.

WHat exactly about his play made you think he was a bot?

You do of course know that a bot can be programmed to play in an almost infinite number of ways

Right, I think just because he didn't respond to chat and played the same speed the whole game. But correct, I figure that is easy to program out of the bot.

I have my chat disabled, and i usually take the same amount of time to act. I'll take it as a compliment that you thought i was a bot, thanks!

Hooper, there is absolutely no way that you as a player can tell that you are playing against a bot!

To answer your original question... the poker sites use the following techniques (and others not mentioned) in an attempt to counter the use of bots...
1. Pop up dialog boxes requesting user input.
2. Scan of running applications
3. Hard drive scans looking for suspected applications
4. Screen shots transferred back to security for review
5. Code level analysis of suspected application (similar to virus scans)
6. Minor randomization in display locations to throw off screen reading apps
7. Direct contact with creators of questionable applications.
8. Banning of confirmed users
