was this fastplay correct?

i had 6d6c in ep in a very good live 5-5 $500 max buy in game. i limped, two players limped behind me, the sb made it $30 to go which was not super meaningful since that's a standard raise in the game and many players do it with all sorts of hands. i have about $1000 and all 4 players have around the same. i called, and the 2 players behind me called. 4 of us.

the flop is Qh7h6s. sb bets $40, i make it $200 straight. one of the players behind me thinks im FOS from a lot of limit we've played.

how's my flop raise?

Calling here is a disaster, raising is a must, only other options is raising SLIGHTLY less depending on the opponent (some don't care big you make it, while others will be more likely to call if you make bets committing them whole way).

Re: was this fastplay correct?

Me like a ton. This raise given the stack sizes pretty much commits you on any turn, so drawing to a flush here without 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]would be retarded. I love it.

LOL, great way to make sure only a better hand calls. I'd rather make some money when I flop a set though

Red name or not, I think 400 is way too much, Id make it 2-250, or against the right opponent some times move all in

200 more instead of 200 straight would've been better.

Re: was this fastplay correct?

Hi mike,

Your flop raise is a little smaller than optimal, but 400 would be too much. You should be raising it about the pot (which in this case would be making it 240 to go), but if you go beyond 300, you're gonna miss out on some action you want. Going smaller, as you did, is all right if you know there's a decent chance someone will re-raise that bet. You said so-and-so thinks you're FOS; does he also have the stones to make a big play without a big hand when he thinks that? If so, perfect raise.

Poker players are pretty nerdy, especially ones who spend a lot of time writing about the theory of a gambling game. It's a kind of social validation thing--I'm cool because sometimes I drink alcohol in excess, and that's what other young adults do for fun (as you can see, I'm pretty normal, and not as weird as the rest of you guys LOL). People also like to impress others, and it's so easy to project a false image on the Internet.

EDIT: PS. I'M HIGH RIGHT NOW LOL

while your first part i agree with i think that if you look at the population of very successful poker players, a very large chunk of that distribution lead well balanced lives in terms of social/economic/girlfriend related trends. of course im extrapolating my experience talking with schneider/bk/james/dougie/paluka/ed/clark/enon/bunky/tpir/yaser/randy/diplomatdcm (davemac)and a few others etc. but for the most part everybody who ive met on 2p2 or through it has a decent balance.

the reason i point that out is b/c you stated that those who spend a good deal of time theorizing about gambling tend to be neardy and that poker players are pretty nerdy...id look at it the other way. while what you say may be true, those who are SUCESSFUL at it tend to be significantly less nerdy, in those terms, than those who spend time theorizing about it. if you can't do, you teach, poker experts notwithstanding.

Having a balanced life does not make you cool. The nerdery factor on these boards is astoundingly high. Like, I always tell myself I'm not going to partake in the nerdery, but after a few minutes, I'm caught up in it, and then I make a very nerdy post.

Like this one.

Looks good, baby. Zee is old and senile and back when he was lucid, they only played deep stacks. No need to make it $400, though for a guy with a clowny image like you, that might be ideal. I might make it $250 for kicks, but whatever, $200 is fine.

that doesn't matter, that's what you should be thinking about if you have AQ or something, or TT or JJ something like that where you don't know about the quality of your hand. here you have 66 and whether or not they have a good hand or great hand or okay hand you still need good implied odds, he raised 6 times the BB, that is big. with your big stacks you have odds to call, but i think you are thinking about it wrong.

old and senile but not stupid. that kind of raise gets you broke everytime he hits the hand you gave him odds to draw to.

wow okay noted. thanks. i normally overbet, and the thing i love about these baby no limits, the best thing about them, is that the players dont bet enough to protect their hands, and they put their whole stacks at jeopardy.

anyway because our stacks are so shallow i figured $200 was enough. but i will know better next time.

no i mean i know 66 is playable there even if he has AA. i just wanted to note that he could have all sorts of likeable but not huge hands.

but with the pot as it is, and stacks as they are, wouldn't it still be correct for them to call with almost all "drawing hands" (" "s are b/c clearly all made hands are slim to draw and win)

I see what you're saying though b/c of the last part of the above sentance. there aren't any draws there other than the straight so almost all money put in is probably generating an equity of close to 95% maybe a touch less on average. But mike still have quite a bit behind. maybe your "for kicks" bet would be better than the 200 in general.
